  1. Well, this would suck [tweet] [/tweet]
  2. i just realized that unless we go up 3-0 in the world series, i will not have a single completely stress free game of baseball to watch for the remainder of 2016. i've been tense as hell, especially since tuesday.
  3. We started spring 2004. I did post on Cubs.com before that as sanclementefan, though. definitely started in 2003. i was here for the lee/choi trade. and a bunch of you guys signup dates are spring 03.
  4. yeah and the national bandwagon seems to be as healthy as ever
  5. crowds were there in 03 for games 1 and 2, iirc. that said, it wouldn't shock me if there were a bunch of people out there on saturday night
  6. What other reason would there be? The atmosphere, potential to get drunk and celebrate exactly
  7. the expansion and the boards i think have really cooled that. but, again, those people were seemingly there just to be there. Seems to me they were there to catch home runs. For free. you think that a few hundred people were there so they might get a chance to catch a home run if one went on the street?
  8. Do balls just not get to the streets as often thanks to bleacher expansion? the expansion and the boards i think have really cooled that. but, again, those people were seemingly there just to be there.
  9. anyone have any theories as to why we haven't seen the crazy crowds around wrigley that we saw in 03? it's not like those people were out on sheffield and waveland just to ballhawk, and they obviously couldn't see horsefeathers.
  10. all that lingers with me from 2003 are the happy things. wood practically winning the NLDS on his own. going to game 5 in atlanta and watching them close out a series easily. the insane sammy HR off urbina in game 1. the insane game 2 and the HR sammy hit to the camera shed that lofton could not believe. the aramis grand slam. even the wood HR in game 7. i have very little pain left associated with that year. just annoyance at the bartman nonsense that always comes up. that was a lot more fun than getting my heart ripped out immediately and swiftly in 08. (and i still look back on 08 fondly - just referring to their respective playoff runs)
  11. If 2003 doesn't sit burning in your memory banks, you either 1)aren't a Cubs fan 2)didn't witness it 3)aren't human 2008 sucked but comon in 2003 we rode the playoff luck wave and beat one way better team and almost beat a second better team...and it was really close so that sucked. but my expectations in 08 were way higher, and the outcome was way worse. i've always been the type anyway that would rather get to the dance and get my ass kicked than not make it at all.
  12. not a single moment of that lingers with me. I think it helps in a way that Wood and Prior both died after that, because i feel so disconnected from that team at this point that i couldn't care less what happened then. I was even thinking last night that if the cubs do the remarkable and win the world series this year, ill be glad that it's this year's team that did it and not that year's team. yep. i totally agree. i think how much i hate dusty is also related.
  13. ok it's kind of awesome that david and kim dejesus are attending cubs games as fans https://www.instagram.com/p/BL0SLgjjbjk/?taken-by=kimdejesus&hl=en https://www.instagram.com/p/BLxOLNqjWxk/?taken-by=kimdejesus&hl=en https://www.instagram.com/p/BLc8UK6jICW/?taken-by=kimdejesus&hl=en
  14. i had joked about bringing in some dude from the 2012-14 to sit on our bench like doug glanville in 03 or something, but she'll do too
  15. Let's not forget Rizzo's glenallen hill foul ball
  16. i also reject the premise that the offense was a problem in game 1, but whatever
  17. well that is just silly and i was never worried about rizzo. russell, fine, he made a mechanical adjustment that seems to have clicked. rizzo's thing was mostly just baseball being baseball. but the opposing pitcher, especially when you're talking clayton [expletive] kershaw over the dudes we beat up on the last two games, definitely matters a lot. come on now. the temperature usually does, too. especially talking 85 vs 45. I thought we were talking about Hill. it became both i don't think what the offense has done the last two days has much bearing on what will happen vs kershaw and hill in 40 degrees this weekend. that doesn't mean i'm all that worried, either, mind you. (nor was that really my point...it's that you would never guess that both we wouldn't feel supremely confident with jake vs rich hill in a game 7 and that we'd get to game 7 of the NLCS despite jake not being god mode) The temp was in the 70's game 1 and the offense was meh save Montero. The biggest change is Russell and Rizzo, and they both had been out of it for a lifetime long time. I doubt temperature has much to do with that
  18. 2008 honestly crushed me more. all my angst about everything about the playoffs stems from 07-08.
  19. well that is just silly and i was never worried about rizzo. russell, fine, he made a mechanical adjustment that seems to have clicked. rizzo's thing was mostly just baseball being baseball. but the opposing pitcher, especially when you're talking clayton horsefeathering kershaw over the dudes we beat up on the last two games, definitely matters a lot. come on now. the temperature usually does, too. especially talking 85 vs 45.
  20. a little surprised how much fresh seeming 2003 baggage there still is for some of you guys. i watched and lived it. i was pulling up yankees tickets and mapquesting the drive. it was awful. but it's so far gone from my consciousness about this team. i actually even liked the 30 for 30 on it.
  21. Ehh, game 3, Cubs offense was ice cold and Hill left a few up. I don't anticipate the offense being cold in game 7, if we get there i don't think what the offense has done the last two days has much bearing on what will happen vs kershaw and hill in 40 degrees this weekend. that doesn't mean i'm all that worried, either, mind you. (nor was that really my point...it's that you would never guess that both we wouldn't feel supremely confident with jake vs rich hill in a game 7 and that we'd get to game 7 of the NLCS despite jake not being god mode)
