  1. i'm calling it right now. avila will hit a 2 or 3 run homer in a pivotal game of the nlcs.
  2. bryant taking advantage of legion week and not going in early would seem to potentially imply that bryant is not getting treatment on the pinky anymore (not daily at least)
  3. Les Grobstein thinks robot umps are real robots https://www.facebook.com/670TheScore/videos/vb.60098543542/10154907918683543/?type=2&theater
  4. too much partying explains KB's risp struggles
  5. Uh, didn't 538 have a whole thing about how it was (at least at that point) a historically terrible followup season for a WS champion team? That was like 6 or 7 weeks of very good baseball ago, when we were like 5 games behind milwaukee (and i think the comparison was against just how insanely good the 2016 team - which their models LOVED - was - but i'm foggy on that).
  6. i'm not gonna bother looking it up, but i wonder if this is one of the better seasons of recent WS participants/winners, given how many i'm thinking of that didn't even make the playoffs
  7. i can't really make complete sense of the analogy but i laughed
  8. David and Duker are superstars, the Bryzzo of this board. But even they aren't always right and would likely tell you so. Duke had us winning 117 games and David requested to be woken up for the playoffs because regular season games weren't going to matter. Still, they are likely first ballot Hall of Famers. Just shows you how hard baseball takes can be sometimes. I still mostly request to be woken up for the playoffs, though I took some Ambien and have probably been sleep walking at times.
  9. well that's one hell of a weird way to look at a .900 OPS
  10. TIL that Richard Hidalgo had seasons of 6 and 7.3 fWAR, as part of a 9 season career in which he amassed 21.2 WAR total.
  11. why haven't we locked him in a room with that pitching machine again that thing got him more ready to face kluber than anyone else on the team
  12. really i just occasionally lose restraint and go all blogfines (cubs twitter reference) on a stupid comment i see
  13. reminder - since his return from AAA, schwarber is slashing .247/.350/.551 (not including the 1 for 1 tonight) he's got a .377 wOBA and a 132 wRC+ oh and a .303 (!!!) iso 37.9% K and 11% BB we all want to see the K's go down and the contact go up, but those are, aside from the strikeout rate, better than his career numbers coming into this season
  14. I don't think they were the Bad Cubs tonight. They had a lot working against them: Castillo and the back of Reds' pen being good, Justin Wilson being a bad pitcher, baseball being an incredibly stupid sport, their own manager. They had chances and fought those last two innings. They might be chocking dogs. But I don't think they were the Broken Cubs. They scored 1 run against the Reds. Castillo was good but the Cubs should be a good enough offense to put up more than 1 run against the Reds. But they're not a good offense this season. Way more bad games than good. The Cubs are 5th in baseball in position player WAR this season. They're 8th in wOBA for the season (2nd in wOBA in the second half). Do you think last year's team never scored 1 or 0 runs against bad pitchers or something? Do you think the Dodgers haven't this year? Have you actually watched a baseball game in your entire life? Because if you have, how is it possible that you have these thoughts?

I mean, seriously, have you in fact watched baseball before in your life?
  16. Interesting that you didn't have anything to say when they were winning by 10 last night. If you've followed the 2017 Cubs, you knew that 15 run performance was going to be followed up by a 0-2 run performance. They're an inconsistent, average team. Dude have you ever watched baseball IN YOUR LIFE?
  17. The Cubs are average team, barely good enough to win the terrible NL Central. They're nothing more than that and a quick 3 or 4 game out in the NLDS. Hopefully they're ready to be good again next year. good. stop watching and posting then.
  18. i'm not sure if i still agree with myself on sending heyward now that dejesus said it
  19. what was so laughably bad about bunting there? seems marginal at best Down 2, extreme strikeout pitcher on the mound. I know Javy is a good hunter, but I'd rather see him try to just hit one out there. none of this post makes any sense to me what in the world
  20. you guys remember that series against the reds where they beat us one game by like 8 runs and we still outscored them by like 30? let's do that again minus the 8 run loss
  21. that's the second time he jumped back on a called strike in that AB sweet caratini would've done better
