    The stupid thing about this superstardom Twitter debate is that it's conflating two entirely different things. Superstardom as a player, which Bryant clearly and unequivocally is, and superstardom as a celebrity/famous person (which I couldn't give two shits about). It's entirely arguable that no baseball player is capable of that level of celebrity at this point in time. Baseball is still popular, but in a really regional way. Mike Trout isn't even a household name. He's well known among baseball fans, but outside that realm, ehhh. And I don't really care. That's a commentary on the state of baseball in terms of mainstream popularity and the way the country consumes it at this point. It's got just about nothing to do with Bryant or Trout or Harper.

    so i kept hearing all this talk about the cubs regretting not re-signing arrieta and how he's doing great in philly and i looked at his numbers and...uh...no? i mean i guess he hasn't given up many runs outside of getting shelled by the marlins, but he's not striking anyone out and he's still walking a lot of guys

    the game tracker thing at the bottom of the mlb.tv radio broadcast page is so bad it might as well not even be there

    he was probably being shielded a lot more in those stretches though. dude's got a 158 wRC+ and .405 wOBA through 132 PA right now. basically playing everyday. oh and his strikeout rate is 19.7% LOL. I think parts of it are definitely real (he’s definitely not as free swinging anymore like the K rate shows) but he still isn’t walking at all so he’s going to have to keep getting a lucky with the batted balls to stay all-star level productive I’d guess i mean his babip is only .295.

    FWIW, i don't remember him having a stretch of his career this good for over a month, fwiw. and there are tangible and noticeable differences in what he's doing at the plate. will be interesting to see how the league adjusts back. He put up an .899 in 06/2016 and a .846 in 07/2016, bookended by .551 and .594. That's about as hot as he's been, as I can tell, and I forgot how good he was last year...851 OPS in the second half.
