  1. old timey types would love the RBIs and wave off the walk rate/OBP though
  2. It's August 2nd. Javy currently sports a .302/.335/.575 slash line with a deserved reputation as a spectacular defender and baserunner. The Cubs have the best record in the National League. That matters to voters, even if it shouldn't, necessarily. He's currently tied for 3rd in the NL with Freddie Freeman at 4.0 fWAR. Carpenter and Arenado are ahead of them with 4.4 and 4.5, respectively. The Rockies have a legitimate shot at a playoff spot, but it'll be tough given the amount of teams in the mix. The Cardinals don't have a ton of hope.
  3. rizzo still has a bit to go to get to 2 war i feel safe in saying he'll be fine
  4. estes gave up 4 or more runs in 14 of his 29 starts as a cub. he walked 83 in those 29 starts. to compare, chatwood has given up 4 or more runs in 7 of his 19 starts and walked 85 in those 19 starts. estes had a bWAR of -1.3 in 2003 while chatwood has a current bWAR of 0.3. are estes and chatwood the worst cub starters of the past 20-25 years? Ruben Quevedo and Amaury Telemaco were both less than stellar. man when amaury took that no hitter into the 8th in his debut, i thought for sure he was destined for the HOF
  5. looking pretty safe to say that the best answer here was #2 with a bit of an asterisk he didn't need to learn to walk a little. he does whatever the horsefeathers he wants.
  6. Another lefty by the name of Shawn Estes gave us one good game in '03 too. I went back and looked at his numbers and he was MUCH worse than i remembered. How dare you Man, how is that even possible? If anything, I remember him as being even worse than he was. It made me so mad that Dusty kept him in the rotation all year.
  7. i swear i almost posted earlier that he looks like KB + 15 years and a dad haircut
  8. Expecting a Verlander level bump out of Hamels is a bit much and a ridiculous expectation, but didn’t Verlander have an ERA in the 4s when he was traded? He just had like 2-3 good August starts before the Astros gave him their special sauce? I’m just telling myself Hamels needs to be better than Chatwood to temper my expectations. unfortunately, jim hickey's special sauce just makes everyone barf up a bunch of walks
  9. Russell has played on a 3+ win pace, struggles and all. That's perfectly cromulent.
  10. [tweet] [/tweet]
  11. fortunately i lucked into finding this pretty easily because the search function was no help viewtopic.php?f=26&t=2030&start=175
  12. i'm sure mojo will insist that this, too, is not a subtle (well, it's definitely not that) shot at the cubs though
  13. javy's basically adjusted to the majors the same way he did every level of the minors, it just took him longer he never walked all that much but he just said horsefeathers it i'll put up a monster slash line anyway at every level
  14. start doing this instead of begging for rain please
  15. ok i guess javy's just a superstar isn't he
  16. This is so horsefeathering dumb. The Cubs have averaged something like over 95 wins a year and haven't missed an NLCS since 2014. I'm going to act like it. Being a fan is supposed to be fun. It's not that serious.
  17. if this were the cardinals you'd already have schoop MSPainted driving around with a case of bud by his side
  18. lol the only time imb posts anything remotely serious in baseball discussions is when he wants to doom boner troll all over the place
  19. you mean blowing like a 7 game lead and missing the playoffs wasn't their goal last year? which moves made by the brewers do you disagree with and why? cain signing was weird as horsefeathers not trading for a starter today and instead getting trash bag jonathan schoop is strange too, even with the recent hot streak anything beyond that is expecting way too much out of me. i haven't put that sort of effort into posting here since i was a much younger and bigger nerd.
  20. by the way i think the galaxy brain/4d chess/etc. jokes are more at the expense of the brewerfan posters than the actual brewers FO
  21. it gets the same "ahahah wow galaxy brain" jokes that all their other moves do, but nothing substantive. Everything the brewers have done since what, last trade deadline, get a bunch of "this won't work" jokes that everyone pretends counts as analysis. "Travis Shaw can't play second base he's 240 pounds! Wow Moustakas at third? Guess their pitching won't be good anymore." That's not analysis, it's wish-casting. Well it didn't work last deadline when they missed the playoffs. A lot of the things they have done with the information we have are at best odd moves and at worst really dumb moves. you mean blowing like a 7 game lead and missing the playoffs wasn't their goal last year?
  22. No these moves are pretty dumb it gets the same "ahahah wow galaxy brain" jokes that all their other moves do, but nothing substantive. "Travis Shaw can't play second base he's 240 pounds! Wow Moustakas at third? Guess their pitching won't be good anymore." That's not analysis, it's wish-casting. are you just mad that they're the ones making fun of stuff without posting anything of substance and not you this time?
