  1. I just had the weirdest dream that the Bears were gonna draft Mark Prior in a "supplemental draft" to be a backup QB.. Yes.. I just woke up. Sue me, it's summer break. Anyways, I guess we'll find out in the next few hours if there's any truth at all to these rumors. I vote no. Still, I think there's a decent chance we'll get Dunn by the deadline.
  2. Why is everyone overlooking the fact that Hendry doesn't have to (and probably wouldn't) tell Miles or McCoy (?) or anybody else the truth about what is going on? That's not to say the rumor is true (I don't happen to think the original poster is anything but a troll)...but the mere fact that a beat reporter or radio guy or anybody else in the media strikes it down doesn't mean it isn't true. I bet you that if Bruce had come here a year ago at this time and we had asked him about Nomar, he would've said that there's no deal in the works for Nomar and that we would probably end up with Cabrera, just like everybody else in TV, radio, and the press was saying. Would anyone here disagree with this claim? Meanwhile, we had been discussing Nomar since early July. We have no idea what Hendry is doing, but I'm sure he's working on something. Something big (and he's not going to tell anyone in the media a thing about it).
  3. To my knowledge, this isn't what they're suggesting anyway. They're just seeing if the Reds hold Dunn out of their lineup...
  4. Yea, I tried to bump that thread. Apparently, one of the mods wasn't too keen on it and sent it back to 2003... It is pretty funny to see how others reacted to the trade.
  5. Like I said. Priceless. I am now fairly confident we get Dunn. WAY TO GO GAMMONS! Actually, now that I think about it.. it was 4 teams... whatever, lol. Still funny.
  6. HAHAHAHA... this is about the best endorsement this rumor could get. Remember last year.. about 2 minutes after the deadline passed.. "Nomar isn't going anywhere." The funniest part was, just as he was saying it on ESPNews, the ticker at the bottom read "4-Team Trade Announced" or something like that. EDIT - just a little late on this one...
  7. It's a gamble either way because even if he is legit, several things can happen between now and then to dissolve a deal. Remember the Bruce Levine rumor, I have every reason to believe it was true, but something happened (like Remmy getting hurt) and deal never came true and Levine looked like an idiot. Levine is legitimate media with a proven track record. Doesn't it strike you as odd that the Cubs are about to acquire the best player on the team they've been playing the last two days and none of the Chicago media that's been in town for 3 days has an inkling? While I pretty much entirely doubt the validity of the rumor in this thread, this isn't the reason to discount it. The Chicago media, and the media in general is clueless with this stuff. Last year we knew about the Nomar stuff in early July (thanks, yes, to a report by Levine). For the rest of the month, all anyone in the Chicago media (radio and papers) talked about was Orlando Cabrera. Most of the time they didn't even mention Nomar, and when they did, it was to say that the Cubs would never ever get Nomar, and that Cabrera was the best we'd do. I generally make it a rule not to rely on media, especially local, when it comes to trade rumors... JMHO
  8. No other poster has posted from that IP. Good to know.. thanks!
  9. I see this thread getting very long in a hurry... 5 pages already and it's the middle of the night..
  10. Of course, we know that WON'T happen... oh, well. I would rather they send down Cedeno anyways. Don't want the poor kid to rot on our bench any longer than he has to.
  11. Couldn't the mods (*clears throat* RAISIN) do an IP check to see if sweetemotion is an alt-nick, at least? Or is that something only Tim is able to do?
  12. he does it on purpose, you dont want your 8 hitter taking a bunch of walks for the pitcher to make the last out in the inning. Thats exactly why I want him there, hes a smart enough hitter to realize that you need to take a different approach based on where you hit...just look at his stats last year hitting second. He took more walks, but it effected his batting average. I think Barrett is a great 8 hitter...especially with the rest of that lineup. Meh.. to me, you always do whatever you can not to make an out. I don't want him purposely sucking because he's in the 8-hole, regardless of who comes up next. Plus, I would rather have the pitcher making the last out than coming up to leadoff the next inning..
  13. So you're putting JHJr. at short? I don't have a huge problem with this... better than Neifi... I'm not sure I'd rather have Holla in there than even an underproductive Nomar though..
  14. walker nomar dunn lee aram burnitz hairston barrett See, I have a couple problems with this... I'm not sure we should have Nomar that high up until he proves he can be productive... Also, it would potentially mean less AB's for Lee, which is never a good thing. Plus, Barrett does much better outside of the 8-hole.. Seems he loses any concept of patience when he's down there.. Ah, well. It'd sure be a good problem to have... :)
  15. LMAO... so how would you guys lineup the team with Dunn? I can't decide where I want him because his OBP is so good but so is his SLG... and I don't want to move ARam or Lee down.. I guess I'd go.. Hairston, Walker, Lee, Aramis, Dunn, Burnitz, Nomar, Barrett but it seems like his OBP would be wasted that far down.. (meh, either way, he's not making outs)..and I don't like Barrett 8th.. Or maybe... Walker, Dunn, Lee, Ramirez, Burnitz, Barrett, Nomar, Hairston
  16. Just blame me for IMing you about it. All you guys IMing eachother and stuff.. I feel left out.. :(
  17. Sorry but he didn't go into any in-depth details about this deal, but it's interesting to note that about a week ago he told me the Reds proposed a deal involving Dunn to the Astros for Jason Lane and Brandon Backe that the Astros turned down, so apparently the Reds at least wanted an ML-ready OF if they were going to deal away Dunn. I posted on ESPN under the name nolimits3 for a short time, but I mostly just lurked. It might just be me (or maybe not), but it seems to me that you're just getting this info based on what vance's source told us, which we've discussed at length on here. Still...if this is true, it'll make my year. Hendry would once again have pulled a big deadline deal for us. Adam Dunn in LF for this team... I'm not even sure how I'd line up all those bats... LF - Dunn CF - Hairston, Jr. RF - Burnitz 1B - Lee 2B - Walker SS - Nomar (come August, hopefully) 3B - Aramis C - Barrett =P~
  18. If we add Dunn, we'll have 3, will we not? :D EDIT - OK, so I was off.. I thought Dunn was slugging better.. but .550 ain't bad. :)
  19. They sure did in September 03, and most of September 04... It's a shame they ran out of gas at the end last year, they wouldn't have beat a minor league team at that point.
  20. ^bump^ 5-1 now! :D :D
  21. Ugh... too bad they don't have Game Over Gagne anymore..
  22. So when is Nomar projected to return? hahaha, not soon enough. is there anyone besides Dusty that likes Neifi as the everyday SS? *crickets* anyone? *tumbleweed rolls by* I don't believe there have been any updates on his August 1st projected return date. Cubs win! It wasn't pretty. Prior struggled a bit and the offense wasted way too many scoring opportunities, but a win is a win! Isn't it fun to be getting enough baserunners to be able to waste too many scoring opportunities and still get 7 runs? :)
