  1. Check out Greene's home/road splits. He hits a ton of fly balls and Petco really has a drastic effect on his numbers.
  2. Where did you hear this? I don't remember hearing this rumor. viewtopic.php?f=6&t=45206&p=1589912&hilit=greene#p1589912
  3. All that excitement last night turns out to be for nothing. We need some Cubs' news already. We're all going crazy. Eh, not for nothing. It still looks pretty possible that we'll end up with Roberts based on that. Just won't get the instant gratification we all want. Either way, opening day's 4 months away.
  4. Tim, you really think they'd start DeRo at SS in that scenario? I sure hope so...
  5. Are we really looking at Fukudome as a middle of the order hitter? Not that lineup positioning matters all that much as long as your worst guys are at the bottom, but it really "feels" like he should be more of a 2 hitter than anything else.
  6. If we got Roberts and Fukudome, I'd be really on board the Pie for Greene bandwagon. I don't love the idea of going with DeRosa as the full time option in RF if we kept Theriot at SS, though.
  7. Adam Everett, Chris Burke, and a PITCHER? Even if the pitcher is a promising young prospect, we can TOTALLY outmatch that. I'm pretty sure Bruce said that the reason we're not pursuing Tejada is his salary. He made no mention of us not being able to match the Orioles' asking price.
  8. Yea, I'm sort of put off by his involvement in Redacted, but I can't think of anyone more ideal as a prospective owner in so many ways. It's funny too, because most casual fans want him here (and this is the way the media perceives it as well) because they think he'd come in here and spend lots of money. While that'd be a definite selling point, the main thing I like about Cuban are his philosophies.
  9. It's just sick how cheap he's coming.
  10. Why must we continue to employ bad old timey baseball people?
  11. Count me as having been sold on Greene too. Roberts - 2B Fukudome - RF/CF Lee - 1B Ramirez - 3B Soriano - LF Bradley - CF/RF Greene - SS Soto - C  Not bad. Would take a lot of moves, but that lineup looks damn good to me.
  12. The best part is that supposedly KW had told Buehrle and Dye specifically that he was going after Cabrera and Hunter in the offseason (to convince them to sign their extensions). KW was in the middle of an interview when news broke, and supposedly his phone rang right then and it was Dye asking what was up with that.
  13. This post gets the dav(e) stamp of approval. Bruce sightings turn into press conferences on here, and it seems 100x worse in the offseason.
  14. If he could put up a .298/.382 line I don't care where you play him...just play him. He can't. Not in a significant amount of AB's, at least. Of course, it would be a typical Hendry pickup. Another middle infielder and a guy who overperformed in a short stint with his last team.
  15. I want the Cubs to get him, but I wouldn't be devastated if we lost out on him. Like others have said, there's a good chance that Hamilton would be a better (and cheaper and younger) option, and maybe if he missed out on Fukudome, Hendry would shift his efforts toward him.
  16. That's because every team uses about 6 or 7 starters, some many more. Of course you can find worse pitchers. But the only way you can be satisfied with the numbers Marquis gave you is if he was a 25 year old making his debut in the majors. You cannot seriously be satisfied getting those numbers in the first year of a three year contract of a guy with Marquis's track record. I think your expectations of a $7MM free agent starting pitcher are unrealistic. Last year, among the other pitchers others were hoping for were Padilla $9MM 5.76 ERA 1.63 WHIP, Zito ($10MM last year, big remaining contract) 4.53 ERA 1.35 WHIP and Schmidt ($15.75MM) 6.31 ERA 1.71 WHIP. Compared to those guys on the market, Marquis' deal was not that bad. For Christ's sake... Other team's mistakes (or bad luck) do not justify Hendry's. You could have gotten similarly crappy production out of a rookie pitcher for the league minimum.
  17. 1. Babe Ruth 2. Ted Williams 3. Barry Bonds 4. Honus Wagner 5. Willie Mays 6. Hank Aaron 7. Josh Gibson 8. Cy Young 9. Lou Gehrig 10. Joe DiMaggio 11. Rickey Henderson 12. Roger "The Rocket" Clemens 13. Alex Rodriguez 14. Sandy Koufax 15. Jimmie Foxx 16. Pedro Martinez 17. Ty Cobb 18. Mel Ott 19. Rogers Hornsby 20. Albert Pujols 21. Stan Musial 22. Nolan Ryan 23. Mickey Mantle 24. Walter Johnson 25. Sammy Sosa 26. Satchel Paige 27. Greg Maddux 28. Cap Anson 29. Manny Ramirez 30. Bob Feller 31. Christy Matthewson 32. Mike Schmidt 33. Joe Morgan 34. Roberto Clemente 35. Vladimir Guerrero
  18. I wish we had gotten Meche and Lilly. Would've been better than Marquis.
  19. Is Theriot even an untouchable?
  20. That's not exactly inconceivable, though.
  21. I'm fairly sure the Cubs will top that offer. Wonder how high SD is willing to go.
  22. Wasn't Teahen hurt last year, which might explain his steep dropoff in power between 2006 and 2007?
  23. It seemed like our struggles against lefties were more in terms of W-L. Might've just been a result of variance. Never did make sense to me that we'd hit WORSE against lefties.
  24. It seems to me Hendry has it in his head to have DeRosa play all over the place. This means he'll be platooning w/ Teahen in RF if that is where he goes. It does leave second still open though. Unless he pulls a rabbit out of his hat and gets Roberts, I don't see him finding someone else to play 2B now that Matsui is off the market. I'd bet DeRosa is the everyday 2B next year. There is still the rumor abour Orlando Hudson being someone we are interested in. Yea, I'm pretty *meh* about that possibility. I wouldn't mind him, but I don't see a point in giving up anything to get him and I hope Hendry gets saved from himself again there.
