  1. It'd be nice if they started broadcasting all games (they being WGN and CSN) in HD, rather than just home games, damnit.
  2. If true, that organization is a joke, and if I were MacPhail, I'd resign immediately.
  3. 5 post-season appearances since 1984 probably isn't terrible, though.... That said, it should be a lot better given the size of the market and the payroll the last few years.
  4. Not to mention the fact that Marquis is ahead of Dempster on the depth chart.
  5. Truth and your opinion are two vastly different things. Truth isn't often wrong. Many here probably hate to admit it, but neither is he. And, in this case, he's definitely not.
  6. The average leadoff hitter had a 759 OPS last year, if that stays the average the next 8 years, Soriano has a good chance of remaining average for his position. I'm pretty sure you're joking, but in case you're not, I'd like to point out that leadoff hitter isn't a position. LF is a position. Really a debate of semantics? I'm pretty sure the term they use for the person who bats first in the lineup is "leadoff hitter". And the person that bats in the first position in the batting order is the "leadoff hitter". Not a debate of semantics at all, and goony was definitely joking. Positions and positional values are determined on the field. Lineup order comes after that.
  7. Eckstein? He signed for way less than he thought he was getting a while ago. FWIW, he would be an upgrade over Theriot.
  8. We're already well past it. Check the Soriano thread in this board format. It's 91 pages and 2270 posts long. This thread is 100 pages and 2490 posts long. I still can't believe he got 8 freaking years. Unbelievable. You agree? It's gonna be nice having Soriano at like 50 bajillion dollars in 2014.
  9. Hah, Mariotti is already set to pile on about steroids when the Cubs do acquire Roberts. Hell, he's doing it now. http://www.suntimes.com/sports/mariotti/734607,011008mariottic.article
  10. Maybe this deal has been completed but the O's want to trade Bedard first then figure out their 40 man situation: Rosenthal That's along the lines of what I was thinkin. Have you spoken to your guy since this morning, BTW?
  11. I don't know if I should even bother, but I'll pass this on for the people that just like to have fun with this stuff, like me. Disclaimer - This is from the guy, Joey, who claims to have his own Cubs insiders and is a Cubs fan that just signed up on their board. In other words, I wouldn't call him nearly as credible as the others. He just signed up on that forum this month. This is not one of the infamous "O's insiders." Also adds...
  12. It has nothing to do with him being a "real leadoff hitter" or anything like that, though. I want them to get him because I think he's a better bet to put up the production we're looking for at 2B than DeRosa.
  13. I have no idea what you are talking about. I have been incredibly pro-Roberts. One of the more pro-Roberts people on this board. I'm also all for moving Soriano into the middle of the order.
  14. Thanks for the update, Bruce. I was kidding about Hendry floating false rumors to make himself look good when he got ripped off, BTW. I, too, hope all is well with the family.
  15. No "Baltimore clowns" are throwing crap around. That's our very own Dave Kaplan from WGN making that report.
  16. LOL You can tell who the pessimists are when the outrageously wrong/lopsided rumors come out (i.e. the ones Hendry floats so that the actual trade doesn't look so bad) and they start freaking out. I will say it right now, there is absolutely no chance that Hill gets traded in a deal for Roberts. The only way something like that would have an iota of a chance of happening would be if it were a package Roberts/Bedard deal. I know I might be being generous here, but there is no GM that inept.
  17. Saw a post on OH that says that Dave Kaplan on WGN Radio is reporting the following... I don't know if I buy that Andy MacPhail is asking for Rich Hill. He'd be laughed off the telephone immediately.
  18. Option A is more or less what I'm thinking (well, realistically hoping) we'll see.
  19. This is why I don't care when the local radio guys call up the other city's local guys to have them on the air. More than likely it's some schmo who doesn't know anything about anything anyway. Just like our own local guys, by and large.
  20. Derrek Lee's a good bet to have the best OBP on the team, and a pretty decent bet to be the best hitter on the team. Dropping Lee in the order isn't good. He's our best all-around hitter (arguably). He should be 3rd, with ARam 4th and Fukudome 5th. Who do you bat 2nd if Roberts is leading off? Personally, I'd go Roberts, Fuku, Lee, Ramirez, Soriano, Soto, Pie, Theriot I think that's unlikely, though. They'll want to break up the lefties (well Roberts is a SH, but yea)... I just really hope they don't drop Theriot in the 2 hole.
  21. Also note that that's actually less than a half season, since they're Post-ASB numbers. I'm pretty sure they played a bit over 81 games Pre-ASB.
  22. Care to elaborate? Yes, people on this board need to take the blue tinted sunglasses off and realize this deal is a steal for us. We getting one of the best leadoff men in baseball, an all-star and another great club house guy for pretty much nothing. You guys are blowing your loads over the 2 pitching prospects that have showed us NOTHING. Leadoff isn't a position. All-Stars mean almost nothing. I don't care if someone is the worst clubhouse guy in the world as long as they could play ball. I'm not the biggest fan of this deal, but I wouldn't be bummed if it went down, as long as we made a move for another pitcher (Blanton or Burnett). Basically this isn't the trade I'm worried about (if it stands as Marshall-Gallagher-Cedeno), but what comes after this trade that concerns me. Really? I would. So you would have rather had Bobby Murcer than Reggie Jackson? Bobby was loved by his Yankee teammates and Reggie was hated by them. Why do people need to jump on people's comments like this and take them to extremes? Obviously he wouldn't. He's just saying that a player's clubhouse demeanor and how he gets along with other players is a factor he'd take into account. Nothing wrong with that. I think Murcer and Jackson is closer than it seems, though.
