  1. Oh, that was it Soriano, that was your mistake pitch for the AB.
  2. Thank you Lou. One extra inning out of Lilly is not worth sacrificing an out in this situation.
  3. Thanks blue, we wanted to give Rowand 4 strikes anyway
  4. Because he's a good offensive CF. Because you'd have him in hand, then you cash in Pie's potential for actual production in the form of a very good RF.
  5. Whoever put Travis Fryman on a potential HOF graphic should be ashamed of themselves.
  6. Theriot really helps his inability to hit for extra bases with his ability to steal bases successfully and often.
  7. Well, there's several ways I could've gone. I would consider going whole hog to get Teixeira. I'd go after Church. If I got him, I'd see what type of impact RF I could manage from a package involving Pie. I'd see what the asking prices were for Javier Vazquez, Andre Ethier, Joe Blanton, Michael Cuddyer, and Carlos Quentin. Depending on what was needed to acquire any of the previous players listed, I'd try to do something to upgrade the OF, whether it's just trading for an RF, adding a SP and using Marshall to help get an OF, adding Church and using Pie to help get an OF, etc. EDIT: And Soto would be starting every game at catcher until his legs fell off.
  8. My goodness you are insufferable Sutcliffe. Even if the ball got by Theriot, it was going to go to the plate.
  9. We would get a shot at him first, no? Goes from worst to first in AL, then worst to first in NL. So, no. I thought they got rid of the league specific rule, and it goes strictly by record. I could be wrong. That's for the first-year player draft, no? That's what I thought.
  10. Tomorrow. He's scheduled to go more than one inning, which seems to be the last hurdle for him to clear before returning to the Cubs. Does anybody go through Iowa anymore? Tenn -----> Chicago -----> Iowa every time. Are the Cubs a AA 1/2 A team? Uh, the last two rehab guys(Marshall and Mateo) both went through Iowa. They may have both skipped Tennessee too, IIRC.
  11. With my overly giddy outlook regarding the Cubs this year, and my preseason enthusiasm for the Bears running at all time highs, I don't think it would be safe for me to be talking about both at the same time. Something might burst. It's okay, we call it "smiling".
  12. I remember when WSI used to keep a running count of how the Cubs were favored by the media. It was hilarious.
  13. That's a stellar idea. Soriano Church Lee Ramirez Hermida DeRosa Theriot/Cedeno Kendall(ideally Soto) I'd swap Church and Hermida, but yeah. I love the idea of acquiring Hermida; is there any chance he's actually available? For Pie? Absolutely. However, I'd be reluctant to swap those two. If Hendry gives up Pie, I'd prefer it be for established producers. Hermida has an amazing MiLB track record, and he's hitting pretty well this year with signs he's due to break out(better as the season's gone along, 900+ OPS away from Pro Player, etc).
  14. How's about illiniguy or DKWG debunk this for us?
  15. That's a stellar idea. Soriano Church Lee Ramirez Hermida DeRosa Theriot/Cedeno Kendall(ideally Soto)
  16. With somebody like Church in hand, Pie would be a great chip to help get a difference maker in RF, either now or in the offseason.
  17. That's only true if you think Hill not catching would somehow make Zambrano not hit. What I'm saying is that relative to a Kendall/Not Z battery, there isn't much of a difference. So if that's the only time he plays...
  18. Church would be a really nice addition.
  19. Hill catching Zambrano almost exclusively isn't really a hit on the offense with the way Zambrano is hitting this year.
  20. Yeah, aside from Buehrle v. Zambrano(and I was there, hooray), no others immediately spring to mind. EDIT: Zambrano v. Young was pretty dynamite too.
  21. yeah, but he just traded a very valuable, long term-inexpensive commodity for a guy who's due to make a killing. yes, a jones's deal is up and he'll be more than replacing that production next year--but i think salty is an all-star sooner than later. both teams got what they wanted. In Salty and Andrus' case, their reputation exceeds what they've actually done. He sold high and got one of the best hitters in the game at a position of need for the remainder of this year and all of next, and if Tex is too expensive then they'll certainly take the draft picks to replace Salty and Andrus. And I haven't even brought up Schuerholz's history when dealing prospects.
  22. Schuerholz is playing chess while everyone else is playing checkers.
