    He wasn't a free agent. His agent would still negotiate the contract. Right, what he's getting at is that the dollar amount(5+ million annually) is low because they're buying out years that he's under team control, for the most part. I think 2008 Braun is a little closer to what we'll see going forward than 2007 Braun. This is what happens when he doesn't OPS 1.400 against LHP. His production probably won't be too much different to Ramirez, but without the positional premium. Essentially, he'll be in that "not quite awesome" tier of outfielders like the ones he's currently close to in OPS, the Carlos Lees and Raul Ibanii of the world.

    He went 5, 5, 6, and 3.2 innings, and that start was shortened partially because he gave up 3 unearned runs. This wearing down that Marshall supposedly went through is a myth.

    Even last year he was an upgrade v. RHP versus what we're getting now from mostly Johnson with some Pie.

    Last August Sean Marshall's ERA was 6.21 over 27.2 innings in six starts. He'd pitched 70 innings, and pretty good innings, leading up to that, starting in late May. Now, I suspect another year of experience will generate some extra knowledge and endurance, but banking on him to be effective from mid-May through October 2008 would be a foolish gamble Here's another way to characterize August '07 for Marshall. First 2 starts: 8 IP, 12 ER, 12.25 ERA Last 4 starts: 19.2 IP, 7 ER, 3.20 ERA To characterize Marshall as falling apart last August is not true.

    I had to wait forever to see Marquis' head pop out of there. I thought Frostwyrm was playing a joke on everyone who thought they knew what was coming after the Macias version.

    those stats (save bb:k) are skewed in part by a .356 BABIP, good for 7th worst in all of baseball His BABIP is that high because he's giving up a staggering amount of line drives, 24.8%.

    Going back to Iowa and hitting .350 with a 1.000 OPS again is not going to help Pie, he needs to get through the learning curve at the major league level, like he did his first 6 weeks or so in Iowa back in '06.

    Let's cling onto the positives for dear life. I'm turning over every stone here looking for them. Edmonds was still decent v. RHP last year, he could conceivably do fine in a platoon situation.
