  1. Imagine watching Sportscenter in 2017.
  2. I don't know that I'd go that far, he's still a guy with a career .075 IsoP that is getting his first AAA exposure at 24. Showing a higher IsoP in full season ball after a couple Arizona home runs is a pretty big hurdle. Especially since playing a little SS isn't the same as being a defensive asset there to offset the absence of power.
  3. fyi I'm gonna beat this reference into the ground i spent way too long looking for a gif of this when carl came in the other night. came up empty. This is as close as I can come: http://imgur.com/jmDZdVp Maybe some enterprising somebody can add a caption.
  4. I think there's some pretty significant calibration issues right now with Pitch f/x and Gameday as a result. In St. Louis for sure but other parks too.

  6. Welp, hopefully Rondon was playing possum in ST like last year. Would rather see Edwards though.
  7. This is coming from someone who iirc is a little bit of a Coomer apologist. I'm a Coomer-as-analyst apologist, he shouldn't be allowed to touch PBP
  8. Coomer does PBP like he's reading real PBP that was put through Google Translate in 15 different languages before coming back to English.
  9. Having Coomer do PBP while Pat clearly remains in the booth seems spiteful.
  10. this is gonna be one of those games where Lackey inexplicably pitches into the 8th, isn't it no one turns early innings 'are we gonna get blown out' into a bullpen saving start more often than him
  11. well now we won't have to wonder who is going to sit out every day after Lackey eats Zobrist limb from limb
  12. Well, maybe a little surprised. More seriously, this move is delightful to me for some reason. Basically taunting the Dodgers for not fixing their ability to hit LHP. Well, they did get Forsythe. Can't see platooning Seager vs. just letting a young superstar try to improve at it. Same kinda goes for Pederson (without the super part). Grandal was good vs both hands last year, despite a crappy BA. Could've easily gotten a platoon partner for Gonzalez, though. And I had no idea Turner had such drastic reverse splits. They had the ghost of Franklin Gutierrez and Slur Hernandez as 2/3rds of their OF against a LHP on Tuesday. Toss in Gonzalez being platoon worthy and Seager being not so superstar-ish against LHP, they are not good. Just because your roster construction makes it hard to make your lineup less exploitable doesn't make it any less worthy of mockery when they don't do it.

  14. Sports fans are v bad John Higgins is also v bad at being a ref
  15. Fangraphs has team pages now that are pretty cool: http://www.fangraphs.com/teams/cubs
  16. Lynn has a pretty dramatic platoon split. In 2015 it was the most extreme with his most extreme proportion of fastballs, .350 wOBA for LH compared to .276 for RH.
  17. Even without the enormous blinking PitchFX/Statcast disclaimer, trying to read the tea leaves into single game numbers on velocity/movement/release point/etc is my least favorite form of analysis. I was really disappointed when I saw Sullivan wrote about Arrieta and then found out it was that stuff.
  18. A topic so bad not even The Athletic could charge someone for it.
  19. Postponed, same time tomorrow [tweet] [/tweet] Seems like the radar wasn't that bad, but the movement is a bit circular so maybe that system is gonna linger for a while.
  20. Listening to the radio highlights, Hughes deftly points out what a great job Contreras did running the bases. To get to 3rd on Heyward's blooper to left and then to score on the safety squeeze is fantastic baserunning for anyone, never mind for a catcher.
