  1. Raw proposed this three-way trade between the Cubs, Yanks, and Reds: Cubs get: Dunn, Christian Garcia (NYY pitching prospect) Yanks get: Patterson, Walker Reds get: Williams, Hill, Hughes, and Cabrera
  2. 6 for 6 with 2 HRs, a triple, 2 doubles, and 5 RBI. He also swipes 3 bags  Uh, seriously; maybe something like 2-5 with a double, an rbi, and a SB.
  3. I think that alot of the perceived problems with the draft class come from the fact that this was a very thin class. There were a few top level prospects but then after that there was a fairly sharp drop in talent. There are players though that can translate into good players but not great players maybe. I see Veal becoming a lesser version of the D-Train, Simokaitis possibly an Eckstein type player.
  4. He's actually lost 178 games in his career. Also, while he has produced results somewhat close to Clemens and Maddux he's been nowhere near as dominate. His control hasn't always been great, as apparent by his career 1.31 whip (Clemens has a 1.17 career whip and Maddux has a 1.13 career whip). I think that Glavine will get in but I don't think it will be on his first try.
  5. nice insite! Do you have a link? There you go.
  6. Some people can pitch forever, some can't. At 39 years old (40 in October) I think it is time he called it a career. He's had a nice career but I honestly don't see anything worth sticking around for at his age, he's not going to be breaking records or anything.
  7. Not a Cub related topic but I thought I'd post it anyway. Here is the story on MLB.com.
  8. MiLB has the P's age listed as 23. Sure but earlier in the year (and his career) he was listed as younger (21). He don't look as sexy as a 23 y/o pitcher starting out in Mesa. Well, The Baseball Cube has him listed at 20 (turning 21 in August) and that sounds more right to me.
  9. Piazza had the same injury and was able to come back the same year, at a position where the groin is under alot more stress. I don't see why Nomar can't come back. Depends on how you define that stress. Is squatting for 9 innings worse than the quick lateral movements you have to make at shortstop? I would think going from side to side is much more dangerous. I'd say they're both about as dangerous as the other. With squatting, you've got constant pressure on your groin (and Piazza is no small dude). Going side-to-side blocking the pitches in the dirt and such also puts stress on the groin.
  10. 1. Hairston - CF 2. Walker - 2B 3. Lee - 1B 4. Ramirez - 3B 5. Garciaparra - SS 6. Burnitz - RF 7. Barrett - C 8. Hollandsworth 9. P That is what I'd like to see, but probably not what Dusty will put out there.
  11. Piazza had the same injury and was able to come back the same year, at a position where the groin is under alot more stress. I don't see why Nomar can't come back.
  12. True, but ARam is locked up through '08 though Walker is gone after this year. Getting Iwamura would block Lewis and Fontentot but I'd be ok with that if he produces like he is right now.
  13. I think that it is WAY too early to be calling this draft a bust for the Cubs. Pawelek has looked excellent in his short starts. Veal (if truely signed) should make his debut soon as well. Dylan Johnston has a chance at becoming a good player as well; though since he's a HSer he might now sign. Simokatis has looked decent in his short stint with Peoria. Liriano, Episcopo, Defendis, and Farina have all looked good in their short time with the Azl Cubs. Hyle, Billek, Avery, Muyco, Reynolds, Hode, Gregg and Taylor have been playing well in Boise too. It is simply too early to tell if these guys will be busts or not, they need atleast a full year under their belt of pro ball before the word bust should even be thought of. Some players might not have looked like the best choice and the time, but I've got full confidence in Hendry, Fleita, Stockstill and they rest of the scouts that they did was was best.
  14. Tamura is an interesting player too. I have a question about him though, early in his career was he injured alot or did he just not get enough playing time? The first 4 years of his career he really struggled but has turned it on since then. Also, with Iwamura; do you think he'd be interested in a move to LF? I know he played a little OF in '03. If he was posted, I'd love to see the Cubs get him and put him in LF.
  15. Through today he is hitting .312, 15 HRs, 66 rbi, .904 ops. He does have 11 errors though.
  16. Any chance that Kosuke Fukudome is posted this year? He looks like a good player. Tatsuhiko Kinjyoh also looks like a good leadoff hitter.
  17. I think this is really what he needed. He got called up from AA and pretty much stayed up. While he was successful, he still needed a little bit more time to get everything together.
  18. MiLB has the P's age listed as 23.
  19. I was looking through rosters for japanese baseball teams and was wondering how hard it is to get a player from a Japanese team? The one player in particular that I was looking at is Shinnosuke Abe. 26 year-old catcher, very good defensively, averages 20 HRs a year, and has a career OPS of .885 (.492 slg, .363 obp).
  20. Jose Nieves (I believe he's the same one) is down in Mexico. Angel Echevarria is also in Mexico, playing in Monclova. Henry Rodriguez is with Tabasco in the Mexican League. Donny Leon is with Puebla in the Mexican League. Bill Selby and Chad Hermansen are with Campeche in the Mexican league. Nate Bland and Andy Shibilo are with Tijuana in the Mexican league. Jayson Bass is with Saltillo in the Mexican league. Daniel Garibay is with Angelopolis in the Mexican league.
  21. Ok, all that I found are updated. If I missed any please let me know and I'll put them up there too, I'll search for IL and mexican league players later but my eyes hurt from looking at the screen.
  22. THe worthless Delmarva Shorebirds media guide didn't even mention that Jason Fransz was in the Cubs system. When was that? Delmarva has a weird habbit of bringing in guys that have no business in low A. They have one player (Cates) who's in his 4th season with the Shorebirds. Luckily he can't touch Earl Cunningham's record of 17 seasons in A ball. He was last in the system in '03 and spent most of his time with Lansing. He was traded to the Rangers on July 30th of that year for Doug Glanville.
  23. I thought it would be cool to look through and see where former Cubs minor league players are at now; feel free to add more. Matt Bruback and Midre Cummings are with Baltimore's AAA team. Jason Fransz is with Baltimore's low-A team. Ross Gload and Roosevelt Brown are with the White Sox's AAA team. Bear Bay is with the Indians AA team now. Jason Karnuth and Gookie Dawkins are with the Tigers' AAA team. I've got to leave, I'll continue adding some later. Shawn Sonnier is with KC's AAA team. Augie Ojeda and Todd Dunwoody are with the Twins' AAA team. Justin Jones is with the Twins' high-A team. Juan Cruz is with the A's AAA team. Mike Nannini is with the A's AA team. Steve Smyth is with the A's high-A team. John Webb is with TB's AAA team. Jason Arnold is with Toronto's AAA team. Josh Arteaga is with Atlanta's AA team. Ryan Jorgensen is with the Marlins' AAA team. Ismael Valdez is with the Marlins' high-A team. Will Cunnane is with Houston's AAA team. Andy Pratt is with the Brewers' AA team. Jared Blasdell is with the Phillies high-A team but I think he's either been cut already or hasn't pitched yet this year due to an injury. Ray Sadler is with Pittsburgh's AA team. Scott Chiasson is with SF's AA team. Chris Gissell is with Stl's AAA team. Robinson Cancel (spring training invitee) is with the Cardinals' AA team. Brendan Harris is with Washington's AAA team (though I believe he was just called up recently). Kevin Orie is also with Washington's AAA team. These are all the ones I found on active minor league rosters. I didn't search through DL lists, that wouldn't taken too long. I'll look through independent and mexican league rosters later.
  24. Why is Montanez on the World Team? Most of the world team players were signed out of the DR/South America, Montanez was born in Miami and drafted out of an American HS.
  25. Most of Sosa's numbers have been good, but I really can't afford his 1.43 WHIP. There is a good batch of SPs out there right now, I'm not sure who I should pick up though. Right now Weaver, Loaiza, Marquis, Chacin, and Hampton are all FAs.
