Here is Ruth's bio. He's a junior but he looks quite promising. He hit .358/.398/.445/.843 this year. Stats

Here is Parker's bio. He's supposed to be a power hitter and can play several positions. Split time between C, 1B, and OF last year, and was expected to be the 3B this year. He's supposed to have a cannon for an arm as well...lets hope there's something hidden that we're not seeing.

Richard (Blake) Parker, the Cubs' last pick is brutal. .246 average with 6HRs and 28rbi and he was 10-12 in SBA. Then again he also had 17 errors, 3 passed balls, and runners were 38-52 against him. Yet another mind boggling pick. Here are the stats. CAUTION- it is a PDF file and a rather large one at that.

I told you SLO had a good team this year. I was accepted to Cal Poly SLO out of HS without applying. I should have gone and walked-on to the baseball team. I could have been drafted by the Cubs! I don't know do you have a concept of the term "OBP?" If you do, then no you wouldn't have been drafted by the Cubs. I did have a good eye in HS. But I played CF! And I run really fast! You never know... Compared to who? Henry Blanco? :lol:

Once he signs a professional contract he can't go back and play at the NCAA level in a different sport though can he? Will he wait and just sign a deal before spring training next year and forgo the NFL Draft?

None IMO...he'd be giving up a much, much larger contract if he did. Maybe the Cubs went cheap in the first round and will pool all slot money from rounds 1-5 to try and sign him away from football.

He was rated #38 overall by BA so I'm rather surprised he's fallen this far. cuubs4life, there are 10 minute breaks between rounds so we've got about 3-4 minutes left until round 5 starts. St. Louis is now 7 for 7 with college players. The newest Moneyball subscribers? also 6 for 7 with southern schools: 2 @ U Miami Tulane TCU Rice Cal Poly Northeastern The 2 Miami players were from Miami (Ohio), and Northeastern is in Boston.

There are still quite a few good players available for the Cubs' upcoming pick. Jordan Walden, Dellin Betances, and Matt LaPorta would all look nice at #149.

Well sethuel, your guy just went to the Padres at #123. I think the Holdzkom that was just drafted might be Lincoln's brother as well. EDIT: Wrong thread, sorry. -
there's more than a couple from '88 in there. I'm in a weird "feeling old" age. I'm not yet old enough to be president, but I'm older than most pro atheletes Mine hit when i bought my Onyewu World Cup jersey and then realized he is younger than I am. Also when one of the undergrads in my lab called me Uncle Seth Same for me - guys like Ben Gordon and Luol Deng are younger than me. And Cedric Benson is 4 days older than me. Of course, I"m still just 23. So you were born on Christmas Eve. No. I was born on New Years. I thought Benson was born on 12/28. Damnit, I went the wrong way... but I was close enough.
