  2. Didn't see it posted yesterday, but maybe it was: So what the heck is up?
  3. So what would it take for Dusty to call his own team out? I know he's a "player's manager" and doesn't believe in holding any player accountable for anything, publicly at least, but clearly he has to see this private admonishing of players isn't working for him. Now a player one game back from an injury is calling out the team, but Busty is still chomping on his toothpick? Dusty makes me sick.
  4. AL is just pwning the NL this year. It's downright embarassing.
  5. It's just a new way for bitter old CubbieRich to get some more shots in against the guy that stole the girl from him and ran over his dog (Woody).
  6.
  7. Would he then get to fire himself when he releases what a bad manager he is/team he put together?
  8. Don't forget the one that had Kerry on it and said "Do You Believe?" after the Cubs beat Atlanta in 2003 I thought it said "Wood You Believe?"
  9. It'll be like Christmas in July when Baker gets canned here at NSBB.
  10. brenly: "You couldn't play this bad if you tried"
  11. Why can't the Cubs brass have access to statistics like ^^^^^^^
  12. Man the front office is getting hammered in the papers today, and I LOVE it.
  13. Good point, although there is undoubtedly a team-wide problem of not getting runners in from 3rd, of not finishing off a promising start to an inning (rare as it is) by converting 2nd and 3rd w/none out into at least 2 runs. It's not just a throwaway issue solved by sabermetrics. Even our good sabermetrics guys have there problems w/RISP. To me, the two issues at hand - getting on base and "clutch" hitting - converge on one issue, being smart as a team in the approach. It seems like games are being treated as one big BP session for the hitters, and most of the starts (other than Z and Maddux) seem like the pitchers are still in Spring Training. All of this can be pinpointed in one direction IMO. If you aren't good overall, you aren't going to be good in many types of situations, clutch being one. This team's numbers with men in scoring position are almost identical to their numbers overall. Clutch is not the issue. It's only a crutch for those who refuse to look at the real problems. You can't go out and get better clutch players. You can't improve players' clutchiness. Get better hitters, and your numbers will improve. It's that simple. No need to overcomplicate things with talk of clutch. You know, we butted heads ALOT initially, but the more you post, the more I want you in Jim Hendry's position.
  14. Shouldn't we let Dusty and his assistants go then?
  15. What? Every pitcher that was in the Top 5 in PAP 2003 hasn't been the same since. Livan pitched better than his career numbers, the other two got worse but Redman wasn't that good anyway. That's not really convincing. I'm not saying abuse has no effect at all. Typically, the pitcher has a bad next year or gets hurt the next year and recovers. Show me a decent number of examples from the last 10 years where the pitcher got abused in one season and followed it up by a dramatic decline in quality and quantity of starts for a number of years or the rest of his career. Wood's just been run into the ground for over a decade, so I can write that off as a unique situation. I still haven't seen anything comparable to Prior that offers a definitive explanation for what has happened to him. Man your significant other must have a horrendous time debating anything with you. You consistently make up all the rules and all the exceptions to how arguments and debates should go. Must be nice. Everytime someeone refutes a statement you make with statistical evidence you come back with some non-falsifiable statement to continue your argument.
  16. Players that get to the level of Kerry Wood, don't do so solely for financial gain. Yeah he's set financially, but if you've every played a sport, you know there is a competetive fire/desire innate within. I'm sure he wants to play and win a WS. As merely a very good high school athlete, all I wanted to do was win. Downtime between seasons sucked. You do get some athletes that only care about money, but Woody has never struck me that way.
  17. Welcome to the boards!! Go Badgers!!!
  18. boooooooooooooooooooooooooooo I'm going to the games in Minny and want to see Lee. :?
  19. Neifi's definitely gonna screw everything up. Doh. Now he's gonna get a lifetime contract. :(
  20. The Greek God Youkillis has 48 BB's and our leadoff guy + #2 guy have 34. :?
  21. don't look now, but Aramis is up to .262. He'll finish the year in the .290's.
  22. Just got home and looked at the lineups. Can someone explain to me why Neifi is batting 2nd and our DH is batting freaking 8th? Anyone? Please?
  23. Whatever. Mariotti is given free reign to spill his bile not only through the Sun Times but also on Around the Horn. Is swearing about Mariotti any more childish than constantly referring to Dusty as the Rev. Johnnie B. Baker or the litany of childish pet names he's come up with with any variety of sports personalities through the years? Lest we forget, before last year's World Series, Jerry Reinsdorf was one of his favorite targets for ridicule and childish taunts. I mean seriously. There's a saying about people in glass houses. Still doesn't justify using sexual slurs against another person.
  24. Aren't you the one who said Prior was 'a girl' or soft because he wasn't playing? Perhaps you shouldn't be the one throwing stones. I said he was soft, then 8 posts later, I retracted my statement and said I was wrong. Thanks for playing though. You never said you were wrong, you said you were a bit harsh. You also called Prior "the biggest girl I have ever seen." I know you're a big Wood fanboy but considering your history perhaps you should be a little bit more forgiving when people say things out of frustration. I've been asked about this 4 times since I made the initial post and every time I said I was wrong, I never called Prior the biggest girl I've ever seen, if I did - prove it. After saying I was wrong, I cite Goony's eloquent disection of how Baker screwed Prior up. This is the 5th time now I've admitted I was wrong regarding Prior.
