    That would be solid, and probably tolerable for me, but I think I'd rather deal one of those guys for some bench help, maybe a SS, and make the Izturis-Eyre/Ohman deal for Westbrook, leaving this: Z Schmidt Westbrook Hill Prior/Miller

    Drew is not coming to the Cubs via Bruce Miles. I'll take his word for it. I'd love Wells. But any deal involving him starts with Barrett, and probably with Pie/Veal. I would do it. What's better, Jacque/Barrett, or Blanco/Wells?

    Because that worked out so well when we did it with Maddux. You know, a lot of experts would agree that Maddux and Schmidt are different pitchers.

    I haven't seen anything to indicate a huge contract. He made 10.5M last year, and is one of the top two pitchers available in a weak class. He's going to get a huge contract. I'd like to have Jason Schmidt on the Cubs next year too. But not at the cost. Honestly, with this market it seems like even pitchers like Gil Meche and Ted Lilly are going to be making close to 8-10M a season. I'd rather fork out a couple more million and get someone like Schmidt.

    I think he's still solid enough to be a good #2 guy for us. He pitches a lot of innings, and still strikes out a lot of batters. I would definitely like Schmidt on this team next year.

    How about: 1) Aramis eats himself off third base, but we can't move him to 1B because Derrek is already there 2) The pitching doesn't come through 3) We don't win the WS even though Soriano breaks through to a 1.00+ level of OPS Or, Hendry isn't able to add any other starters and the rotation is Z/Hill/Miller/Marshall/Prior, hardly WS-bound.

    I'd still rather sign Roberts, or maybe trade for Crisp for CF, then trade JJ + stuff for a pitcher.

    I still say we will probably get one full season out of Miller and Prior combined, which isn't necessarily a bad thing if we can add Schmidt and then Westbrook/Jennings.
