    I definitely don't doubt Donnie's story, but in the end I think this is what's going to happen. Peavy doesn't want to go to ATL, he wants to go to Chicago. However, SD isn't going to come to a package agreement with the Cubs, and they'll get an offer they like from ATL. It'll be getting later in the offseason, so while Peavy doesn't want to go to ATL, he also doesn't want to be a Padre again, so he'll watch his NTC for the Braves.

    People really need to stop suggesting this as a possiblility. The Padres don't want a 5M mediocrity as their closer. So Hendry sees Gregg as a solid reliever for the price who has closed for two years but people around the league wouldnt? I have a really hard time believing that.

    Now that I've gone completely crazy, I'm coming back a bit. My friend brought this up. I doubt it's what Hendry is doing but I thought I'd mention it here. Any chance of Hendry planning on flipping Gregg to SD in a Peavy deal? They need a closer. Maybe Hendry is saying Wood is gone for some sort of leverage? (I don't know leverage on what, my friend just mentioned the idea)

    So we're losing our quality closer. To replace him, we're taking our best relief pitcher out of the most important role we have in the pen (a shutdown guy) and we're only going to use him in the 9th. To replace our best shutdown guy, we traded a promising prospect for an average reliever. What a great day. I can't wait til we sign Dempster to a 5/$70M contract tonight.

    ibanez is only athletic in the sense that he is a professional athlete. Here's to hoping Hendry can "wow" the Marlins for Hermida because, there's no benefit to wasting money on Ibanez. ibanez is second on my list after hermida...he has solid numbers and would really bring some solid production to the lineup...i don't understand the dislike for ibanez He is really bad at defense. I couldn't pick if you asked me who I wanted for one half inning of defense Bonds or Ibanez. I'm not much of a defensive guy, because for the most part I could get over bad defense if they are good at the plate, but Ibanez even scares me.

    The recruiting expert at KU's Scout site thinks Mizzou will be decent this year, a tourney team. I've heard a lot of people say that, but I don't really know what to think. I haven't had a chance to get out to either of the exhibitions, but I know some of the new kids are solid. I'm not expecting a tourney berth this year, but I'll be very pleased with the NIT. At least it'll show we've made SOME progress over the past few years.

    I didn't even think the fans were that bad, all things considered. Obviously they are going to have a short leash with Rex, so when he makes awful throws that miss wide open receivers he's going to get booed, but I was anticipating a lot worse.
