  20. Just show me the calculation where the probability is "easily greater than 10%". Well, the average no-hit avoidance streak is currently 10.86 years, so I don't think it's too far out of line using the rationale you used. Here's the data I used on that one. The original 10% was a very quick and dirty calculation I did on the fly assuming there being 3+ no-hitters per year and a 1 out of 30 chance of it being one specific team each time. I skewed it upward due to the offensive woes of the Cubs, even though the runs scored of teams that have been no-hit suggests that that doesn't really matter too much. Using your "post 2007" time frame, the CUBS have played 693 games and made 6,167 hits, or 8.90 hits/game. They have not been no-hit during that period, 1 hit once, 2 hit seven times....... H/G Instances 0 0 1 1 2 7 3 12 4 30 5 51 6 68 7 84 8 77 9 92 10 78 11 54 12 28 13 38 14 37 15 13 16 9 17 6 18 6 19 1 20 0 21 1 22 0 23 0 24 0 25 0 I didn't take the time to calculate the standard deviation for these 693 games, but I'd still like to see you try to get "easily greater than 10%" out of these numbers, eh?

  22. There is literally never a decent chance a team gets no-hit. Well, I guess it means by what 'decent' is. Since 2007, there have been 18 no hitters over the course of 5 and a third seasons. The Cubs are in the bottom quarter of the league in terms of offense, so the chances are easily greater than 10% over the course of an entire season, but significantly less than that now that a third of the season is done and we are moving into summer. If the probability of the CUBS getting no-hit once during the course of any given season were "easily greater than 10%" then one could logically infer that they would have been no-hit at least once every 10 years, on average. The stark reality of the situation is that 47 years (and 7,376 games) have transpired since the CUBS were last no-hit by Sandy Koufax in 1965 Something just doesn't add up here.
  23. CUBS have 1 sac bunt in their last 9 games CUBS are 7 of 8 in stolen base attempts in their last 9 games.... CUBS opponents are also 7 of 8 CUBS have homered in 4 of their last 5 games..... but no multi homer games in their last 7 CUBS have double digit hits in 3 of their last 6 games..... while averaging 1.83 R/G CUBS have committed 8 errors in their last 13 games..... but no multi error games CUBS have allowed double digit hits in 9 of their last 16 games CUBS pitchers have not registered double digit Ks in their last 18 games CUBS pitchers have allowed multiple HRs in 5 of their last 9 games CUBS are 1-2 when they get no XBHs..... their opponents are also 1-2 when they get no XBHs CUBS are 242-198 (0.550) vs. San Diego CUBS are 130-90 (0.591) vs. San Diego at home CUBS are 24-24 (0.500) vs. San Diego on Mon CUBS are 15-7 (0.682) vs. San Diego on Mon at home CUBS are 73-45 (0.619) vs. San Diego in May CUBS are 44-20 (0.688) vs. San Diego in May at home CUBS are 5-4 (0.556) vs. San Diego on Mon in May CUBS are 4-1 (0.800) vs. San Diego on Mon in May at home CUBS are 0-0 (0.000) vs. San Diego on 28 May CUBS are 0-0 (0.000) vs. San Diego on 28 May at home CUBS are 0-0 (0.000) vs. San Diego on Mon 28 May CUBS are 0-0 (0.000) vs. San Diego on Mon 28 May at home CUBS are 1-1 (0.500) vs. San Diego in Game No 48 CUBS are 2-1 (0.667) vs. San Diego in Home Game No 25 CUBS are 15-7 (0.682) vs. San Diego on Mon at home Gam# Date Opponent Score 032 Mon 05/12/1969 San Diego 2- 0 122 Mon 08/17/1970 San Diego 7- 0 058 Mon 06/17/1974 San Diego 5- 7 078 Mon 07/05/1976 San Diego 1- 0 031 Mon 05/16/1977 San Diego 9- 6 066 Mon 08/24/1981 San Diego 9- 8 049 Mon 05/31/1982 San Diego 7- 9 089 Mon 07/16/1984 San Diego 0- 4 080 Mon 07/08/1985 San Diego 4- 8 090 Mon 07/21/1986 San Diego 6- 1 082 Mon 07/06/1987 San Diego 7- 0 090 Mon 07/16/1990 San Diego N 4- 3 049 Mon 06/01/1992 San Diego N 6- 1 098 Mon 07/26/1993 San Diego N 9- 6 036 Mon 05/16/1994 San Diego N 4- 2 001 Mon 04/01/1996 San Diego 5- 4 130 Mon 08/28/2000 San Diego N 2- 8 007 Mon 04/11/2005 San Diego 0- 1 012 Mon 04/16/2007 San Diego N 12- 4 038 Mon 05/12/2008 San Diego N 12- 3 119 Mon 08/16/2010 San Diego N 5- 9 016 Mon 04/18/2011 San Diego N 1- 0 049 Mon 05/28/2012 San Diego Go CUBS !!! © 2012, Fred W.
