  6. Those aren't the '84 unis. They're Negro League replicas. They had a big tribute to the Negro Leagues before the game. I'm waiting for them to trot out those ridiculous mustard yellow road uniforms that they used back in the early 70's. :pukel:
  7. Those stats were sufficiently substantive to draw a conlcusion with regard to short term trends, and that's what I did. They were certainly not substantive enought to draw a logical statistical inference; that, I did not do. I know the difference between the two, and so do you !
  8. BK.... are we trying to draw valid statistical inferences here ?? If so, then sample size is the only relavent question. But I don't think that's the point of this exercise, is it ? That's what I figured you were trying to do by posting some stats in defense of tonight's lineup. Do you really think that the data from the first two weeks of the season has more predicitve value for tonight's game than the last 2 weeks ? Or maybe the combined 4 weeks has better predictive value bcause it's a larger sample size ?? The only conlcusion I drew was that tonight's lineup "looks quite reasonable". The data I presented demonstrates this. I'm really not sure why you seem to be confused. You're using logic. People don't like it when you use logic to support your opinion. Otis, as you get on in years, keep reminding yourself...... logic is your friend !!

  11. Dusty is trying to get fired! Yay! Would you care to elaborate ? This seems like a pretty reasonable lineup to me. Jones cleanup? Murton batting 6th? Horrible! 13. Is that Fred in your sig? Thanx, Mizzou..... I was just waiting for somebody to make that connection. That fellow has way too much hair on top, eh?
  14. I heard part of this program this morning as well, and remember them also saying he isnt in the HOF is because he made so many people, who are now on the veterans committee, mad at him by clicking his heels in NY, and that the cubs already had 3 Hofer's from that team. Go Cubs--p.s. I'm not wearing any Cubs clothing, hats, or jerseys until they score at least 4 or more runs in 1 game (Win or Lose) Santo never once clicked his heels in NY. That routine was limited exclusively to Wrigley Field. Yes, it did make a lot of people mad, and I'm sure that they haven't forgotten it to this day. But remember, those veterans committee members were not the ones voting for the HOF from '79 through '04 when Santo was going through his period of eligibility; it was the sportswriters. The veterans committee, which holds Santo's fate now, has, to the best of my memory, never voted anybody in. In the final analysis, there are 9 thirdbasemen in the hall of fame who played in the major leagues. Ron Santo, arguably, has better numbers than 6 of them. The whole system is a joke !!!
  15. I highly doubt a rotation of Zambrano, Maddux, Marshall, Hill, Guzman is gonna carry this "hitless wonder" team to .500, much less the playoffs. Oh, ye of little fiath !!
  16. Sorry.... won't let it happen again.

  19. I concur with NCCubbieFan & cubsfan1955 about not hearing of any such shenanigins during the '69 season. I would just like to point out, for any of our younger fans that might not already realize it, that while Harry Carey was taunting the CUBS in 1969 as mentiioned, he was broadcasting for the Cardinals.
  20. Lest we forget..... it was just 100 years ago this very season that weak offensive team from Chicago dubbed the "hitless wonders" rose up and surprised the entire sporting world by upsetting the highly favored entry from the other league in the World Series !!!
