    I've pretty much hated baseball for the last four months, but Carlos with an absurd mustache sucks me back in. Are you gonna tell Carlos his mustache is absurd ???

    lmfrao, aint none of them down south here...even if there was, it would be an hours journey...30 to where it would be and 30 back See there, I'm having one of them senior moments. In my mind, you're still on Addison st and not back down in North Carolina. Reality is highly overrated, no? it was 65 and sunny today! 55 and overcast here. so much nicer where you are !!! there is a reason i call the sweet sunny south my home! Yeah.... 'cause Illinois won't give you a visa, right ?? :wink:

    i watched it live on WGN, in a bar with my at the time gf, we were talking about marriage, she wasnt happy about me being such a baseball nut, but i agreed to give up hockey for her....rewatching that ballgame was pretty painful for me, reminds me of a time when life was good, when i wasnt an angry drunk, when i was a nice person. You can't BS me !!! I ain't buy that stuff about you being a nice person !!

    After Leo Durocher was terminated midway through the '72 season, there was some recurring clamor over the next few years for the CUBS to name Ernie Banks manager. (He had just retired as a player the year before.) When you look at the likes of Herman Franks, Preston Gomez, Joey Amalfitano..... it's not a stretch of the imagination in any way to believe that Ernie might have done a better job. Old man Wrigley, who really made more good decisions than people ever gave him credit for, finally put the issue to rest in one interview when he said , "Every manager that gets hired in the game of baseball, eventually gets fired. Ernie is a legend and has given more to this franchise than any other player. I don't know if I could do that to him." Let Sandberg continue to be a legend also.

    I was hoping they edited the ending like WGN once did for a rebroadcast of the Phillies' 23-22 win over the Cubs in 1979 (in the edited rebroadcast Ernie Banks then hit a 2-run homer to win 24-23). Alas, no such luck. Which was a real feat because Banks had been retired for 8 years already by then.
