  1. Under normal circumstances, yes. With Freel going on the DL, though, that allowed Scales to be recalled. I was not aware of that exception. Thanks. I gotta give credit to NCCubFan for reminding me. I had forgotten until he mentioned it in another thread.
  2. I have a feeling Hendry is determined to play Fontenot at 2B when Aramis gets back and likely views Durham as either completely done or only blocking Fontenot. I agree he ought to be, though.
  3. True, but we've been willing to give at bats to Aaron Miles all year. Why can't or couldn't we find a spot for Uggla? I don't like giving ABs to Aaron Miles and though Uggla is far superior, I don't think he'd be worth what Florida would likely ask in return. Well that's the kicker I guess, but it sounds like they want to move him. At least according to MLB and ESPN, it might not cost a ton to get him. If it didn't cost a lot I'd think about it, but it's hard to give up young players when Durham is sitting for free (in terms of prospects) on the free agent market.

  6. Because then we'd have to live with Uggla at 2B. He's never had an OPS below .800. Even this year he's at .778 and most likely will revert back to form. I don't get thwy he would be so bad at 2B. and amazing sig. He has a -8.8 UZR at second base. That's probably a big part of it. Yeah he sucks at defense, but man can he mash when he's going good. Which he hasn't much this year.
  7. Out of that group of hitters, I'd like Branyan.
  8. Worse, if one believes the scouting reports. What about LF? I thinking he, unlike, Soriano may be actually able to cleanly field gb's that make it out to LF. Soriano's a good defensive left fielder. And he'll likely hit far better than Fox will.

  10. I'd rather sign Durham and live with Fontenot at third.
  11. From what I've heard, it's not his arm that's the problem. It's his glove. Apparently he can't catch the ball behind the plate or in the field. Tell the other team not to hit it to him, problem solved Oh, if only that could work . . .
  12. Im not, but Shark probably is, and since, he has a full NTC, thats the only guy who needs to be against it. Yeah, the NTC was the only way we could talk him out of playing football. I don't think there's a chance he would accept a trade. I don't think it was the only way. The main thing was the money. The NTC is just a bargaining chip. I think any pitcher would be a fool to turn down a potential trade to SD, especially a young one trying to build up his resume for arbitration/free agency. A couple years pitching in Petco could help Samardzija big time. He can use the NTC to negotiate something else into his deal. I'm thinking I remember hearing that the NTC was a necessity, but I could be remembering wrong. And as far as Shark waving it, doesn't he live near Chicago and wants to stay close to home? That may override the idea of getting earlier playing time in SD.
  13. I don't think it's that bad. Personally, I wouldn't have done it, but his salary is not weighing us down that much and he's only going to improve. The only problem with the NTC is that you can't move him for present day help, but having just one guy in the minors in that situation isn't a terrible thing.

I don't think there's a chance he would accept a trade. I suppose it couldnt hurt to ask though. San Diego might be a good environment for him. Padres are more likely to put him in the rotation than we would. Couldn't hurt to ask - which Hendry may have in the past - but I have extreme doubts he'd agree to it.
  15. Lee is OPSing .941 over the past month.
  16. Im not, but Shark probably is, and since, he has a full NTC, thats the only guy who needs to be against it. why does it really matter to him though? oh, and good lord, thanks jim for handing a a draftee a bloody NTC...MORAN! The only way Shark wasn't going to play football was to get an NTC. And I think he wanted it because Chicago is close to home or something.

  18. You're almost certainly right. They might give a little for Wells, though, if he continues to be pretty good at the ML level. Certainly not to build a trade around, but I could see them as a respectable throw in. Maybe. In a minor deal I could, perhaps, see that.
  19. I was just about to point that out. I swear it had the correct spelling earlier, but now it doesn't. Have I completely lost it now? The mistakes are all part of the GT pimping experience. Don't question it. And who knows, maybe Garrett Wolfe is pitching against us today.
  20. Right there is the reason we should have NEVER traded him. Now we are dealing with Aaron Miles and, my new favorite player (back in the minors), Robert Scales. My man crush on DeRo lives on, though. I made sure to get tickets to the interleague series with the Indians at Wrigley \:D/ Ah, but he's back! Scales was recalled and Freel is on the DL.
  21. That's not that bad a goal, to be honest.
  22. And given completely irrational contracts. That too.
  23. That's a bold statement, sir :) Haha, I knew somebody would jump on that sentence. :) It's true, though. He's a pretty good fielder (career 13.2 UZR at 2B and 8.8 UZR at SS) and he never hit much at all, but would have been decent enough as a pinch hitter. The problem was he got 503 ABs in the top two spots in the order in 2005 and 98 there in 2006.
  24. Did Andres Blanco kick your dog or something? We get it. You don't like Andres Blanco. The horse is dead already replace kick with sucks, replace your with at, replace dog with baseball and you've got your answer. I've seen worse than Andres Blanco. He's generally a bad hitter, but was OPSing .800 in 153 ABs this year. He also has a career 5.8 UZR in the majors in 386 innings. As long as he's just filler and not part of a longterm plan, I don't really have a problem with him. Precisely. He's only here because of injuries to the starters, he's gone when they come back. The guy was swinging the bat well in the minors, he got called up. Ooooohhhhhh travesty!!! Hendry should commit hari cari for this, the worst of all his crimes against humanity!!! The problem people have had with past bad middle infielders (Neifi, Macias, etc) is that they'd start consistently and hit toward the top of the order often. Blanco is very unlikely to do the former a lot and probably will never do the latter, so I don't think he'll be hated. Neifi could have been a decent part of the team if he would have been used correctly.
