  1. Yes, very much. No, no chance. To my understanding, the defensive concerns are at three levels: 1. Seems to be making a number of throwing errors. My friend said he made a totally not-even-close Steve Sax-like throw at a game last week. 2. How good is he at actually catching grounders? Not sure if this is as large a concern. But m friend said that an easy grounder went right through his legs last week, the kind of error that you almost never see in the majors. 3. My recall is that scouts have said that he is still pretty awkward at turning double plays. In terms of center, he hasn't been scouted as a speedster. He's scouted as a smart baserunner and perhaps a quick starter towards 2B (but a slow starter out of the box). But his straight-line speed isn't scouted as much above average. So my guess is that if he doesn't make it at 2B, he'll go to left like Eric Patterson. Offensively, he projects better than Todd Walker and probably has better tools defensively as well. I've been a Thomas fan, I just wonder how much time did he really spend on defense at FSU compared to hitting, which took that dramatic jump they year of his draft. I don't think he's Jake Fox as far as a defensive liability at C/3B and will be given the chance to progress up the ladder further at 2B.
  2. As far as Cales, if keeps his focus and watches his weight better, he's definitely a steal given his circumstances during his 1st 3 years of college.
  3. I know I had mentioned Reinhard at the time of trade, very good move by Wilken at the time as his knowledge of the Rays farm definitely helped.
  4. The LA program just seemed to excel when Oneri was in charge and prob. just as important had more resources. Hopefully, the PR program under Wilson will do likewise with his talents and resources.
  5. Nate, when the Chiefs come to the "lovely" town of Beloit, what time does the away team usually take BP? Is it 2 hours or 90 minutes before the start of the game? I'll be out there next weekend and was just wondering when the Chiefs will take BP as I'm looking forward to Vitters taking BP.
  6. So was Ortega the Venezuela scout for the Cubs or KC at the time?
  7. Similar to Ceda being signed by the Pads, Guzman was with KC (Ortega). Regardless of how Wild West it still might appear to be in Latin America, I can't imagine in that country (minus the rare execeptions) that there would be enough sleeper prospects to justify going for quantity over elite quality. Like here, it's extremely rare now to find the next Bob Feller throwing in a barn or more recent examples of having a kid no one has seen actually throw in a hotel hallway without having someone spot him to profit or gain exposure of their own, if the kid has obvious talent. They need the blend of one or two higher ceiling prospects and pay for them in bidding markets to go along with the untapped raw potential of athletes trying to become baseball players.
  8. Hendry also did it as a favor to Derosa, it's how he operates. (Given the fact they wanted more LH'ed bats) He knew that Fontenot was going to be the everyday 2B (in an ideal world) and that Derosa would struggle to everyday ABs which he deserves. Hendry is a very loyal guy to those who are loyal to the Cubs. So between what was already mentioned as far as thinking those pieces will be needed to get Peavy as well as trading Derosa to a place to where he can play everyday, I believe those are two main reasons why he was traded.
  9. If Patterson does come back as reported by CBS, it'll likely mean that both and Orton will share time in the front court as the starting C and PF. Perry is the one losing minutes, IMO.
  10. Somehow Calipari has thought he'll be a good fit into the scheme.
  11. It was reported yesterday that Patrick Patterson will return to UK instead of turning pro. =D>
  12. I didn't read the article but Baseball is my fav. sport, despite hearing you re-enact the Gibson HR.
  13. $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ But how much money will this cost him in the long run? Bad decision on Bledsoe's part. He'll back up Wall this season and then probably Brandon Knight next season. He'll more than likely be over recruited his entire time at Kentucky. Well, they haven't got Wall yet. They probably won't. Duke is in on him too and he isn't even elligible as of yet. Plus he wants to try and go pro immediately. I think it was pry an easy sell. I don't know why you'd say he probably wont. Everyone seems to believe Wall is going to Kentucky. Just seems odd for a five star recruit to sign with a team where there's a good possibility that he'll see limited playing time. UK has a good shot as does Duke as well as Florida. Wall has always wanted to play for Calipari, Duke has location, etc. He'll make his decision at some point later this month. UK has the #1 recruiting class & with Wall, it probably only trails the Fab Five as the best class of the last 20 years.
  14. If Wall does come to UK (like much of this new group), he'll be a one and done. Bledsoe is undersized and doesn't have range beyond 18-19ft, so while he won't get the same playing time if Wall is there but would likely grab those minutes his Soph. year. Bledsoe doesn't have the same strengths as Wall to project where he would be successful or a high draft pick only after one year of college like Wall does. With that said, I'd be surprised if Bledsoe goes to school beyond 2 years.
  15. With the way Calipari has brought some excitement back, I'm definitely looking forward to this Fall and Midnight Madness. He's done an amazing recruiting job in a short amount of time.
  16. Greinke has just been out his mind for me. Thank you, Chuck.
  17. I thought we had to wait till a new draft. That's what I thought as well.
  18. I'm hopefully waiting for another former Sox to get DFA'd once Scotty Pods gets on a two week hot streak while Anderson recover and the Sox go with him and Podsednik over Dewayne Wise, so they can get rid of Gathright.
  19. Drop J. Hamilton pick up C. Pena.
  20. edit: I have no clue, prob. a glitch that hasn' been edited.

  22. Also, STL won't draft a HS pitcher near the 1st.
  23. Bittle is the best senior of the '09 class, he has a good chance to go in the 1st, but unlike last year his medical will have to have less question marks.
  24. Everything is in order, thanks.
  25. Drop Washburn, Mijares, Matsui, and Eveland.
