  1. Rumors have Epstein close to signing a 5yr deal worth 12.5mil, making him the highest paid GM in MLB.
  2. Cashman, Wade, Lamar, Epstein... I'd rather take my chances With Moore of ATL or Arbuckle of Philly, over any of them.
  3. I happen to really like Oswalt and his approach to the game. Instead of Barrett talking to Oswalt when he arrived at the plate, the pitcher should've drilled Oswalt or the best player on the team (Berkman/Beltran) or both. Barrett running his mouth w/out knocking the crap out of Oswalt does nothing.
  4. Well, that's a start for a close ballgame.
  5. At least Bartman hasn't been mentioned during the broadcast. :)
  6. With the way the player who brought the Cubs Karchner is pitching, probably need more than a rally monkey at this stage.
  7. Clemens should knock down Sanders to test his back.
  8. Oswalt is one of my favorite pitchers in MLB, proven it again last night why he is. He pitched how I want to see the Cubs pitch again (up and in ahead in the count).
  9. Somehow, I don't think the Angels fans feel that way about AJ. Personally, I liked the play by AJ and would Barrett would do likewise if put in that situation.
  10. I think Giles alone brings the Cubs up a couple of notches offensively, more so than any player avail. You have to be concerned about the years, it isn't a situation like Alou, IMO. There's much less of an injury history, reversed park factors, he isn't coming off of one of his best years, and OBP doesn't slump.
  11. I think very few are, some are valid reasons why to like or dislike a manager and some aren't. But, it is more common to have a manager liked and disliked at the same time. The longer the tenure, the greater the divide.
  12. They won't use Carpenter on 2 days rest, I forgot that MLB frowns upon that by having each series go 2-3-2, instead of 2-2-1-1-1. That eliminates an extra off-day and forces a 4 man rotation.
  13. Dierker can reverse any negative trend a franchise can have. :)
  14. Depends how Clemens does, this should be the game that most favors the Astros this entire series as far as SP. Put Morris is a park where I can hit HRs and he's in trouble. This will be the last time the Astros will face Morris though, if it goes 7, you'll see Carpenter for a 3rd time.
  15. I assume you're talking about pitching? :)
  16. History of winning? How is that applicable here? That's about as bad as thinking curses exist. Better manager, health of pitching, and improvement of talent are the reasons why one team has progressed and one has regressed, not history. No, 1908 (not the admin here) and the Cards winning 9 WS have nothing to do with it, since there's no one in either organization that remains from 1908 or 1982 (maybe one area scout roaming North Dakota might remain, but he likely got replaced by a computer in a cubicle in the Cards front office). I gotta say I like the Giants and Dodgers chances for the WS next year. I'm still trying to figure out how the Baltimore Orioles dominated MLB for about 15 years, after all they were the St. Louis Browns. :|

  18. I think he is one of the better ones out there, I think his speciality is his able to create or refine a plus breaking pitch (slider). I have no problem with him coming back either, although, I think would Price be more successful than Rothschild. I think his approach towards pitching is more suited for a team that struggles with control than Rothschild. I should also mention that Price has had a successful record of bringing up minor leaguers and having them be successful at the majors. Price has his flaws, I've criticized Rothschild for not speaking out more when Zambrano throws 120+ in a game already decided, Price has been part of some M's teams that did likewise under various managers. But, he does deserve credit for reducing the workload under Lou, something that was difficult to do. I think he'll be better at fixing mechanics than Rothschild. Wood is the obvious example of futility as far as mechanics, but I'd rather focus on Zambrano and his lack of a follow-thru. I feel Price is better at correcting mechanical flaws than Rothschild. If you gave me my choice, I'd rather have Price.
  19. People in MLB taking responsibility for their mistakes? Let me know when that occurs... I've never seen it until it reaches the managers/players and that is seldom, except for a few (see Angels manager). AJ did the right thing, I thought Paul did the right thing as well, the only ones who failed are the ones in blue. I love the firing line with the umps press conference and the sham of them trying to assume baseball fans are only a couple of notches above being able to tie our own shoes and not having to go with velcro out of difficulty purposes.
  20. Agreed. Although nobody knows what Couch's status is since he had shoulder surgery. A healthy Couch would've been a really good backup. All reports lean towards him having a successful shoulder surgery and ready for a tryout. His last tryout was still with the Bears and he couldn't throw on consecutive days and then had surgery.
  21. My goal is for the Bears to be a 12-14 win team. I don't think any of these QB's have a chance of winning that many this year. But the only two that have a chance of winning 12-14 in the next couple seasons are Orton and Grossman. So any playing time that can go to them should go to them. I don't see Orton or Grossman being franchise QBs long-term, they'll be avg. starters if they max out their abilities But, that's a separate issue than talking about the quality of the backups, which should be improved in case of an injury.
  22. I'd like to see George get a shot over Blake or Kittner, Blake wouldn't be bad as a #3. I'd much rather see Couch and George over Kittner and Blake.
  23. Tim, who do you think is a better PC between Bryan Price or Rothschild?
  24. We get to watch Benson do his best Anthony Thomas impression?
  25. Those weights are more fictional than anything, they usually vary between websites and media guides. Wells is more than 260, King is more than 242. Prince has lost fat as he has progressed thru the minors, at Beloit you could still see plenty of baby fat. Now, he's sturdy. Players not being able to stay in shape frustrates me more than anything. I lump it right there with hustle on the field.
