  1. A very good hire by the Royals, has he been a better fit for what the Cubs are trying to do, he would've been an exceptional hire.
  2. I would've popped him one too and then pointed at the scoreboard.
  3. How much of that was b/c of that final month?
  4. Beckett, Pavano, Penny rounded out the rotation. Better pitching/worse hitting, their hot streak lasted longer than 20 games before the end of the season.
  5. That knuckle has been up this inning, I wonder if that shoulder is starting to bother him. It looked to be tightening up that last inning.
  6. welcome back.
  7. You know...Clement is so invisible that I think he gets forgotten about, but he was a really good pitcher for the 3 years the Cubs had him. Gotta give Hendry credit for letting him walk though. He's been nothing since leaving, and it's largely because of injury. His injury sounds mysterious and vague kind of like Prior and Wood's injuries have been too. Part of it was taking the line drive and then right before the playoffs, he almost got hit again against TB and it spooked him. He was always all arm when he pitched, but he was flinching and not following thru at any contact at the plate.
  8. Except Mark Prior has some of the worst upper body mechanics ever for a pitcher. I know a lot of people are jumping to conclusions that just because Dusty is their manager now that he will destroy ever single pitcher they have. I don't think that will be the case. I think a pitcher is more likely to break down if they have bad mechanics than the big pitch count theory. I really don't see anything mechanically in Harang, Arroyo, or Bailey that catches my eye. They are no Dan Haren when it comes to mechanics, but their mechanics are pretty good. It's part of the problem combined with their work loads, they were bound to pitch too many pitches while fatigued. Speaking of mechanics, you decide on one arm slot yet? My friend said your arm slot was all over the place at CoD last month.
  9. I really hope the bolded isn't true, because in no world is defense more important than offense at any position. Defense should never take priority over offense. Ever. That doesn't mean that defensive ability isn't more important at the positions you listed than at others. It is. That said, the most important thing will still be what they can produce with the bat. It's not true, especially for 2B and CF.
  10. Should they give Pie a shot to compete in ST? He's hit AAA pitching, hasn't done squat in the majors, hell, he has a better CF'er in front of him than Cedeno does at SS. You let them compete in ST to see who will likely be better. Beyond watching them take one or two ABs a game, they also judge them in practice how they've improved or stayed the same, how they field the ball, how they're instincts are, how they hit in the cage, and against live pitching. Those 2-3 ABs a game are very small in the grand scheme of things of competiting for a job in ST. I still don't know why people are afraid to let them compete in ST? So far, the only answer has been that Cedeno he'll do well in ST.
  11. They have two choices, see what he can do in Chicago or trade him. AAA isn't a likely choice for him, he's already been thru and circuit and done well. He has to prove he can do it at the majors. Everyone has to the right to be skeptical, he hasn't done enough in the majors to not merit being a favorite. The concept that Theriot has earned the starting job b/c of what he did in '07 hides the fact he was below avg. SS both offensively and defensively. If it takes Cedeno competiting for that spot to find out if he can be better than below avg, so be it. I don't know if he'll be better than Theriot, if I was to guess now, I would say no, but I would want a more definitive answer than Cedeno struggling and a subpar year from Theriot.
  12. Especially when there is no legit starter or backup standing in his way. Theriot has value, but his ceiling and maximum value is as a utility type of player (Counsell with less pop).
  13. And who should be at SS? Once again, what is wrong with letting him compete with Theriot in ST for the starting SS? Theriot did nothing to prove he should go into next year as the starter and Cedeno has shown enough glimpses and tools to deserve a shot to compete for that spot if it is a battle between the two. I think it's too early to say Cedeno sucks. I think right now, he has just as good of a chance to beat out Theriot as Theriot does of remaining as the starter, under the assumption that it would be a fair competition.
  14. They're different styles of pitchers combined with diff. arm strength, diff. arm slots (IIRC), diff. pitches, diff. secondary pitches etc. There's more of a comparison between Gallagher and Byrd (despite) Byrd throwing anywhere from 5-10 MPH slower with better command.
  15. I'm trying to figure out what would be wrong with supporting him, when what you had a declined McGriff and Karros as the competition at the time? He deserved a shot, he wasn't going to be better than Lee as I said at the time, the Cubs had a chance to upgrade and they did. It me cracks up when a couple of people go off on tangents on Choi and Dubois as if there was some quality players benched somehow becoming lesser players in front of better players. Let me know how the careers of McGriff, Karros, and Hollandsworth were after they left the Cubs? Let me know if I'm missing something. People want to see Soto b/c Blanco, Hill, and Kendall aren't good. People want to Pie b/c Jones and Pagan aren't that good. I want to see Cedeno given a shot at SS, hell mnake it an open competition b/c Theriot is not likely good enough as a 150 game a year SS. :)
  16. LSU had a letdown after last week, but I think UK outmuscled them. That was LSU's worst defensive game by far and UK's offense had something to with it. That block by Lyons was my fav. play of the game.
  17. I'm looking forward to his first appear. at Wrigley. I doubt it will be as cordial as old Pac Bell was.
  18. How is he an upgrade over Murton in RF? Come on, you guys no better than this. In the last three years Church has had 268, 196, 470 ABs respectively. In the year he had 470 ABs he posted his worse numbers and he doesn't walk. Besides the salary savings I really don't see the benefit of Church. I just don't get the fascination. You're assuming Lou would start Murton in RF beyond LH'ers, I'd rather load with productive options and let them battle it out rather than bringing in subpar options as backups and assuming Lou would go w/Murton.
  19. Does that equate to the Cubs becoming a better team over the last 5 years? :)
  20. Though he may be the best, numerically there are a couple awful close. Woodson has a 65.2 completion percentage with 7.42 yards per attempt and an 18:2 TD:INT ratio. Erik Ainge has a 67.6 completion %, 7 yards per attempt and a 10:2 ratio. Brian Brohm is at 66.8%, 9.32 ( ) YPA, and a 20:4 ratio. I like the fact that two of the three top QBs in the nation (with the possible exception of Brennan depending on how you feel about him) are in the SEC. I think Woodson will be the 1st QB drafted. Of course, before the season started I did say that Woodson would be a top 10 pick. :)
  21. I just hope this year and this win can translate to the recruiting aspect of it all.
  22. It's just been so damn long since they beat a team as good as LSU. I haven't been following UK sports that long to remember a huge FB win like this.
  23. 105% Deservingly so though.
