  1. That was my thought exactly. And having the Mets involved dealing 2 of their top prospects for essentially Danys Baez. Wow. I'm not surprised, (see Kazmir for Zambrabo). *IF* Boston isn't picking up ANY of Manny's salary in this deal, the Mets are by far getting the crappiest deal in this. Baez, who might help shore up the bullpen, or might crack under the pressure in the bigtime. And Manny, who may still be at the top of his game, but will begin his decline, and in 2 years be virtually untradeable. Boston will get Cameron and Huff, and be have a very formidible 4 outfielders offensively, when Nixon returns. And the D-Rays. If Sweet Lou ever finds a plan down there, and sticks with it, this could be a mega swing for them.
  2. I say we offer them Macias. Hendry would get fired if he made a bold move like that. Personally, I think the fans of the Cubs would run Hendry out of town for not including in that deal.
  3. Since the list is based on this season, I would strongly suggest the additions of Nomar and Kerry Wood to that list. Nomar should be in there in the top 5, and Wood at LEAST an honorable mention. Not to mention Rolen and Thome. Overall I can't say I disagree with the people the list as the top 10. However to say that Boone at probably the leage min, is more overpaid by the Twins, than say, any of their honorable mentions, is overstating it by a large amount. I would also use that argument as to why Sosa, while he should still be there, shouldn't rank as highly as just an Oriole. To me, it's just another piece of sensational journalistic fluff from Page 2. But, I can't fault them. That's what (it seems) they are paid to do.
  4. I have a feeling you are correct. But I also have a feeling that IF Cincy ships out Dunn, it will be to a team that entertained the idea of Griffey. ESPN listed Griffey's short list of teams, and ironically, HOU was there. As were the usual suspects. But the Cubs were not on that list. Just as Florida is attempting to get rid of Lowell's contract by dealing him with AJ, I see Cincy attempting to do likewise. I'm not sure if I'm reading DugoutDollars correctly, but it appears that Griffey is done after '06. If the Reds pickup everything they've deferred, I'd be willing to stomach Griffey in CF/RF for a year and a half, if it meant Dunn in LF, and a placeholder keeping it warm for Pie in CF. Putting Griffey in RF would ensure injury, and give Gerut/Murton/CP/Greenberg etc plenty of playing time at 4th OF. Griffey's contract runs through 2008, with a team option for '09. So, ad nauseum this trade has been discussed. I still see the Yanks as potential suitors there.

  6. Ramon Hernandez - C - Padres Ramon Hernandez needs surgery on his wrist, but can probably play the rest of the season with the injury. However, he's going to be a free agent next year (if the Padres don't sign him) so he is torn between finishing out the year for his team and having surgery so he won't be viewed as damaged goods by other teams this winter. If the Padres sign him, it will solve most of his problems. He's scheduled to have a follow-up MRI soon, and that could reveal that he needs surgery now, sooner than later as well. Jump all over it.
  7. I don't think it's people who think we need a new closer. Just people who know that the only baseball person who's actions are more inexplicable than those of our dear manager, are those of Sweet Lou. I mean, this is the same guy that left Neifi in the 1-2 spot, that starts Macias, that leaves rookies on the bench to rot, even when they perform well. Why would you assume for a second that he wouldn't dump Dempster for someone who had more than 2 saves in their career, prior to this year? Especially one who was on the same team as your current closer, when the guy coming back from injury had 20+ saves the year they were on the same team? Not that I think he should do it. But just that I think he'll try.
  8. I guess to me, it depends. If the person losing Vlad is ok in the HR/SLG type stats (if counted in your league), I think it's ok. But if they're not, I'd be skeptical. The team gaining Vlad, if it's ahead of you in the standings, or within a close enough proximity to catch you with just that addition (and subtraction), I'd ask both owners the "why" and if something smells fishy, or they don't get back to you in time, I'd veto it, pending the explanation. That's my 2 cents. And I've never actually veto'd a trade. But that one, I'd consider.
  9. My first pick to fail, is Ichiro, who was asked to be in to represent Japan as well. Hmm. He hasn't hit 20 hrs, since '95 in Japan, and amassed 13 in his most power prolific MLB season. Although he has a monster .639 SLG in Comerica since 2002, I'm shocked that one would even consider him. Thankfully he declined, commenting on his stats. Smart guy. That being said, of those who accepted the nominations, my pick to fail is... Pudge. Sorry, but home field advantange isn't going to help him. In close second to last though, Bay.
