  1. have you seen any reason to believe different with their previous AB's this game? It's not all about the Cubs approach. Hernandez is pitching well...give him credit. He won't pitch a CG though, and there's a good possibility he'll tire soon and wil be more hittable. of course its always the other pitcher, and not the Cubs approach. It amazes me how many "tip your cap" games the Cubs supposedly have It helps when you swing at the first pitch and make an out.
  2. Someone give him some gatorade during his next outting please. No kidding. It's not hard. Drink. I might point out that Zambrano should now be used only in the bullpen, a la Guzman and Piniella.
  3. The real question is: how did he ever get started?
  4. I'll help.
  5. You should not talk religion in the workplace, ever. Agreed. Potentially divisive subject matter isn't good for the workplace environment. Politics and Religion are big no-no's for me. Politics is all we talk about.
  6. NFL Sunday ticket, baby.
  7. The only "clock" in baseball are the 27 outs each team starts the game with. I'll take the OBP guy, thank you very much.
  8. or if he'd caught the fly ball that he lost I'm at work -- can't watch or follow too closely -- did he lose ANOTHER ball in the sky?
  9. I like this idea.
  10. Tire that bullpen out! Vargas needs to be out by the 3rd.
  11. And Marquis's overpriced contract just disappears? Hugo Chavez will take care of that.
  12. I'm done with you.
  13. MurtonFan. Re-read my post. Now. So, what did I say? Do use strawman arguments with me.
  14. Really, all I care about is one thing? Do not mischaracterize my remarks. Power is not overrated. Where do you come up with this stuff? Please, demonstrate for me how power is overrated. Furthermore, the assumptions you are making are absurd. Theriot is a good basestealer; but he's not Reyes. If Theriot were to attempt steals as much as Reyes does, he'd get caught a lot more because pitchers would pay a lot more attention to him.
  15. i'm surprised that there's hardly a mention of grossman, and none of the usually grossman bashing king likes to throw around. He had the one caveat in there, but that was it. Maybe the Bears threatened to use him in tackling drills if he was nasty?
  16. My understanding is that most, if not all, players are put through the revocable waiver process.
  17. I really don't think he can play consistently and generate any kind of power. He's old and his arms are legs are pretty fragile. RF is crying out for Murton. Just league average there would help the team amazingly. I would really give a lot to see Soto, Murton and Pie play every day. They really can't be worse than what we've already endured. The cost of this veteran fetish and lack of patience will be felt next year, too. Pie and Soto will probably be the starters for 2008. And they will struggle at times. Had they been given the opportunity to play this year, and learn those lessons, not only might we have improved this season, but we'd know what we have in them. And they'd be ready to go for '08. Every year with Hendry I say the same thing. And every year we play crappy veterans.
  18. Landon is small, but saying he is too physically small for the EPL is garbage. I'm not saying what US said is garbage, I'm just saying it is glossing over the most important fact. If he had the heart, he could play and play well at his size. It isn't that he is too small it's that he plays too small IMO. He's not nearly physical enough was my point. If he had more of a Rooney mentality (who's not that tall) or even Javier Saviola, sure, but he's of slight build and I've never seen him physically outmuscle a defender. Well, he could make an impact roving in a withdrawn forward position, kind of a poor man's Thierry Henry. Obviously, LD doesn't have that kind of talent. Still, I'd love to see what Wenger could do with him. Also, though LD isn't very physical, this would be a great way to really up that part of his game. If he can go to the EPL and succeed, despite his shortcomings, the USMNT will be well rewarded.
  19. I agree with most of your points, but for the price Theriot has provided good value at SS. He adds an above-average OBP at SS, and actually RF has provided a top-10 OBP in the league. The most needed upgrades on the team are at CF and C, both of which have had little power and a complete inability to get on base. In the future I want a better SS for the Cubs, but for this year I am okay with Theriot. The bigger problems lie elsewhere. In actuality, I'm fine with Theriot. He's a nice value at SS. I was demonstrating to our dear friend MurtonFan why we should upgrade at SS. Now, if there's nothing great available, or the cost is too much, Theriot (or Cedeno) is fine. I believe the easiest upgrade, all things considered, is in RF. Floyd's been terrible.
  20. 1. Theriot has 19 SB. Not all of them have led to runs. 2. We aren't scoring nearly enough. Not even close. The Cubs are 8th in the NL with 481 runs scored. They have a team OBP of .328, which is good for 10th in the NL. And, if that wasn't enough, they have a team SLG of .410, which ties them for 8th along with Houston. Their team OPS is .738 -- 10th in the NL. 3. I didn't argue particularly strongly that the Cubs should upgrade SS, except to point out that you had undermined your own point. Which you did, and conveniently ignored. Remember this? How about this: Your excellent riposte? Bravo. More points... 4. Lee, Ramirez and Soriano are hitting for power. Lee's SLG is .507, Ramirez is at .549 and Soriano has posted a .519. They also get on base. 5. NL League average SLG/Cubs SLG: C .385/.329 1B .460/.479 2B .420/.415 3B .446/.522 SS .415/.338 LF .467/.510 CF .416/.395 RF .424/.372 6. The power outage is coming from, you guessed it, SS, RF, CF and C (.338, .372, .394, and .329, respectively). The Cubs are above at the average at 1B, 2B, 3B, LF. They are below at C (-.056), SS (-.077), CF (-.021), and RF (-.052). That's a lot of slugging they are down, no? And, lo, SS is our weakest SLG position as compared to the NL average. 7. Hence, we need an upgrade at SS.
  21. What does this mean? Please, if you want to debate and be heard or taken seriously, use more than one-liners to support your points. I've been watching and reading your posts for a while now and controversy surrounds you in large part because you do not adequately support your contentions. Please if you want to make sense don't make silly statements, My point is that they're scoring runs very well with Theriot stealing bases and without hitting doubles, triples and HR. Furthermore, i contend that there aren't very many power options at short and that SS isn't the place to look for power. Lee, Ramirez and Sori should be hitting for power, yet they're not. Are we to say we need a new 1B, 3B and LF no, because they're getting on base, much the same way Theriot is. So please Brinoch, enlighten us as to why we still need a new SS. Are you really calling my statements silly? Seriously? Are you sure you wanna go down this road? Because it's gonna get pretty rough for you as I verbally thrash you for your refusal to use logic, offer support for your statements, and hold to a consistent line of reasoning.
  22. I played both the OF and SS/2B until I was 18 and stopped playing, and we played with two cuts, and you always tried to hit the cut closest to the plate. I just watched the Brewers throw Delgado out at home. The throw went to the second cut-off man, Graffanino, who threw to home for the out.
