  1. 1 playoff starter , 1 lockdown reliever, third baseman, Another stater and the bench. Jed better start shopping soon.
  2. Cubs owner Tom Ricketts was asked why more money wasn't invested in the on-field product this off season (Bryce/Manny etc) : "That's a pretty easy question to answer. We don't have anymore." My level of disgust has reached on all time high. Anyone with even a casual interest in the cubs finances know this a complete an utter [expletive] .
  3. I posted something positive and you start with the negative "schtick". All winter people have posted about the lack of transactions by the Cubs, so I'm assuming that they also thought that some roster positions could be improved even though "The Cubs won 95 games last year with way more going wrong than right." On what planet is what you wrote a positive comment? Are you so jaded that you honestly believe that writing "Yeah, the Cubs are fine as long as everything goes right, but the odds of everything going right over a long season aren't great" is positive? There's only two sentences in your post. Let's look at the second one... "Since they didn't spend the money or make any trades (yet), we have to hope the semi-injured bounce back, the old-timers stay "young" for another year, and everyone stays healthy." Yeah, still no. Please explain how you think either of the above statements is positive. https://www.sciencealert.com/people-who-pick-up-grammar-mistakes-jerks-scientists-find
  4. Hard to top whatever number reliever you consider this. http://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/25893836/inside-37-year-old-pitcher-luke-hagerty-improbable-comeback-story
  5. Him saying they don't talk about it is nonsense. He's being a good friend and shutting up. Have to love the subtle jab at MLB owners for it being weird only 3-4 teams being inerested in generational talents.
  6. In Theo we trust- 11/2/2016 I'm still betting Cubs.
  7. You're assuming that we all also watch the NBA or the NFL. You're also acting like this (domestic abuse) isn't a "common occurrence" in baseball. You're also acting like simply watching a game automatically means someone is making money for a team. Basically your priorities in all of this are calling out the people fed up with it as opposed to the abhorrent human being the Cubs are willfully employing as a player. Sorry to assume you guys watch other sports in between posting. Baby momma #2 isn't talking about domestic abuse at all. Don't make that leap. She's mad she got paid in small bills and quarters and that Russell isn't in the babies life. The domestic abuse "occurrences" in football are on another level compared to baseball.
  8. I'm talking about baby mama 2 situation that just came today. I'm asking the I'll never spend another dollar on the Cubs ect crowd how do you justify watching NBA/NFL were this behavior is a common occurrence?
  9. Russell being an absentee dad to his illegitimate son is horrible but not really a story or a problem for me if it was I wouldn't be able to watch a single NFL or NBA game. It's petty to pay in change and quarters but it's also petty to air your grievances on social media.
  10. Angels have been my second guess on a Harper/Manny mystery team. My first guess and hope is obviously the Cubs as the mystery dance partner.
  11. https://www.cubsinsider.com/2018/12/16/cubs-trade-rumors-jason-heyward-once-again-subject-of-speculation-involving-giants/ The headline made it seem like they had a new rumor making the rounds but he didn't reference anything in the post. I thought Heyward had a full no trade interesting to see it's only twelve teams.
  12. How do you know they are choosing profit over talented players? Telling someone to grow up? Sammys advice was dead on and your response proved it. You sound a little triggered.
  13. You do realize that his daughter financially supports the Democrats? One of the top donors of right alongside Harvey Weinstein. So I'd call it wash.
  14. Let's get Crazy
  15. i feel like she tweeted things like this late in the game (like right before reports started coming about our level of involvement) about tanaka and heyward, didn't she? anybody else remember? I think it was Heyward. I definitely put her word ahead of Charles the cat.
  16. Tim did say he was talking about decline based on age. I read it that Zobrist is the only guy who is so old you have to expect decline. He also specified offense. I can't speak for Tim, but I'm sure he'd agree that Baez is also likely to regress, but thats a matter of regression to the mean, not way-past-peak age. I have to say I agree with what he wrote, and think you would too if he expounded. Nope. Especially as it's become more and more clear how early players' peaks are, especially when it comes to offensive output. Nope it's actually becoming less clear and more variable in todays game thanks to players adjusting swings for launch angle, player conditioning and advance scouting .
  17. we found a guy who is scared of the brewers 2nd Wave Brewer Trutherism is when the real fun begins. This thread didn't age well......
  18. I can't believe I'm linking to a bleacher nation article. :banghead: https://www.bleachernation.com/2018/11/12/how-much-would-the-luxury-tax-actually-cost-the-cubs-at-a-260m-payroll/ They will hit the first tier without a doubt. Not going into the second or third tier for even a short run to acquire a player like Bryce Harper with the team in a championship window is a complete joke. I hope Theo's bluffing. Since the Ricketts purchased the Cubs it's been a non stop machine of dollar for dollar quotes saying the revenue will all be going back into baseball operations once the MLB debit restrictions were lifted. Just this offseason alone *ticket price hikes/premium seating/Clubs/sponsorships *MGM MLB deal that will expand to include other partners and more $$$ *Significant bump in international TV $$$ This is going to be additional to the $457M of revenue the Cubs had last year. (Forbes) This without including in at the very least a nominal bump in the new TV deal.
  19. I wonder how much It would cost to rent the billboard on Sheffield for a month...... it can just say Dear Theo give Bryce his monies. please and thank you .. With love Northsidebaseball
  20. Even a modest new Cubs TV deal will have the ownership reaping in heaps of cash. The new MLB TV deal and ticket price hike already cover the luxury tax bill. If the Cubs don't spend this offseason it won't be because of a TV deal falling short.... this better be a Theo smokescreen.
  21. It would be nice if Theo had Thanksgiving with the Harper family this year.
  22. Was hoping for Rivera or Ellis but this will do. Does he bump Victor Caratini from the post season roster?
