    Tim did say he was talking about decline based on age. I read it that Zobrist is the only guy who is so old you have to expect decline. He also specified offense. I can't speak for Tim, but I'm sure he'd agree that Baez is also likely to regress, but thats a matter of regression to the mean, not way-past-peak age. I have to say I agree with what he wrote, and think you would too if he expounded. Nope. Especially as it's become more and more clear how early players' peaks are, especially when it comes to offensive output. Nope it's actually becoming less clear and more variable in todays game thanks to players adjusting swings for launch angle, player conditioning and advance scouting .

Not going into the second or third tier for even a short run to acquire a player like Bryce Harper with the team in a championship window is a complete joke. I hope Theo's bluffing. Since the Ricketts purchased the Cubs it's been a non stop machine of dollar for dollar quotes saying the revenue will all be going back into baseball operations once the MLB debit restrictions were lifted. Just this offseason alone *ticket price hikes/premium seating/Clubs/sponsorships *MGM MLB deal that will expand to include other partners and more $$$ *Significant bump in international TV $$$ This is going to be additional to the $457M of revenue the Cubs had last year. (Forbes) This without including in at the very least a nominal bump in the new TV deal.

    Even a modest new Cubs TV deal will have the ownership reaping in heaps of cash. The new MLB TV deal and ticket price hike already cover the luxury tax bill. If the Cubs don't spend this offseason it won't be because of a TV deal falling short.... this better be a Theo smokescreen.

    Hopefully a lot of the fans have grown the horsefeathers up since the Fukudome days. I'm hopeful but not optimistic. I guess that was literally ten years ago tho.     One of the MLB network guys mentioned a valid point last night. The Brewers along with every team in baseball got $50M from the sale of BAMTech which could help ease payroll constraints.

    They still have plenty of cash to burn and a surplus of outfielders to trade.... I wouldn't start making win projections just yet.

    My bad overhaul was a poor choice. This was prior to the complete turnover of the Cubs pitching structure ( Jim Benedict ,Hickey, Brendan Sagara). Looks like the Cubs banked on having the right guys and the wrong approach.

    Marrow/Cishnek replace Davis/Rondon?. If they end up keeping Grimm & Montgomery this wasn't the pen overhaul I was expecting this offseason.

    The chance to lure Manny to Wrigley long term all summer long and hang out with his "brother" Almora is too mouth watering to pass up.
