I guess I understand the logic of putting a free swinger in front of a pitcher, because a walk is not that useful. But this is the other side of it. You have a pitcher who has no incentive to throw a ball anywhere near the strike zone.

Nah, this isn't football where you have to gameplan for a particular QB. They really have nothing to gain by doing this. I agree with everyone who says it was peer pressure and Strasburg didn't want to go initially. Only explanation that makes sense. It's Strasburg being neurotic and a creature of habit. You could see Zach Greinke pulling something like this.

This was obviously mishandled from an organizational standpoint. Dusty probably mishandled it. He was trying to back his player, but ended up dumping gas on the fire. He should've said there's been no decision about who's starting. Strasburg is feeling ill, but we'll see. If he just said that, it would've been a non story. The reason it makes Strasburg look really bad is because regardless of how he felt, the perception is that he didn't want the ball. Because even if you're sick as a dog Tuesday, why would you ever say you can't go on Wednesday. And mention how you were wheezing after a run.

If its peer pressure, then maybe he will be off today and will get beat down.

It's strange that Strasburg is not starting. But I guess everyone now realizes it was unfair to blame Dusty for this decision. What I don't understand is why the Strasburg decision was made yesterday. We've all been sick, and we know you can feel like crap one day and better the next.

Im not justifying it and I’m glad row-ark is staring. But they have to win both games anyways. So going row-ark then strasburg rather than Strasburg then Gio isn’t a huge drop off when Roark has been recently good, is fresh, and the Cubs have seen Gio a couple days ago. Especially if strasburg is sick.
