  1. he was at .4 WAR in an injury riddled 38 games and coming off a 5.8 win season in 2003 (not to mention several other great seasons past) and this was when steroids were still a thing and we had no worries about 31 year olds. and he was replacing AGon-y's sub replacement ass. Oh don't get me wrong the Nomar trade was a good trade for the Cubs and I was excited at the time. But there's a reason Theo made the trade and won the World Series that year.
  2. Whoa Ohio State plays Illinois at Champaign this year. Pretty sure Illinois leads the East.
  3. Wait, how different do you think baseball stats are now vs. 11 years ago? The smarter baseball fans are in tune with sabermetrics at places like Northside Baseball. Nomar was a pretty bad player in 2004 before he got traded to Chicago (-0.1 WAR lol), I guarantee you the reaction would be completely different had it happened now compared to 11 years ago.
  4. 2005 was a daytime start. Watched the full game prior to the Illinois basketball game. yeah wasn't that the pierre leading off with a triple and zambrano giving up a million runs game? Cubs won that game 16-6 and 2005 was going to be the most awesome year ever http://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/ARI/ARI200504040.shtml
  5. The Nomar trade was never bad, the Cubs gave up little value and got a pretty good player. Obviously the Hendry overreactions are bad. If this trade happened in 2015 with everything we know about baseball stats, the reaction would look completely different.
  6. I always fear facing really good aces on Opening Day and Los Angeles doesn't really have one pending a good offseason. Garrett Richards is good but I wouldn't call him an ace by any stretch. Also starting with the DH is awesome.

  8. I don't really care, McCarthy is right. Still he's a moron for giving the Bears motivation, there's really no benefit to doing so.
  9. Probably yeah, we lose that game and we're creeping very close to .500 and at that point all confidence is gone
  10. Alright I'm rooting for Bears losses
  11. Nationals would need to go 21-4 to force a 1 game playoff if the Cubs just finish .500 the rest of the way
  12. Don't mean to [expletive] on the parade but assuming a win in this one, if the Cardinals go 12-13; which is very unlikely given their pace, and finish 99-63, the Cubs would need to go 20-6 just to force a one game playoff for the division. And then even if this all happens, you have the Pirates ahead of you. I think focusing on the Pirates and getting the home field for that Wild Card game is way more realistic at this point.
  13. We didn't "need" anything from them. Let's kick their ass and send the message that October will be more of the same. Sending Hammel and Haren out there isn't the best way to send a message
  14. Cubs need the Cardinals to win, they lose 2 of 3. [expletive] this team right into the sun
  15. In Edwards' favor Rodriguez gave up the same number of HRs during his 2002 minor league season that Edwards has during his whole minor league career, Edwards was harder to hit (4.8 H/9), and he piled up K's at a similar rate. I mean, I like Edwards being up for those reasons. He's certainly intriguing as an extra pen arm. But, it's kinda silly to suggest that he can do what those two did when he has a BB% of 17.7% in the minors this year. I don't think anyone thinks he's on Price's or K-Rod's level but there is a reason to be excited about him as a reliever coming up. We have no clue what he can do.
  16. Take a look at what K-Rod did for the Angels in the playoffs as a rookie and then get back to me. David Price for Joe Maddon in his rookie year
  17. It's 6-1. When else would you use him???? Never
