  1. Monty was already pretty much in the starting rotation, unless we make a move for a starter that pushes him out of it. Yeah that's true. I guess the only realistic name out there on the SP market that we could get who might be better than him is Tyson Ross. So it makes sense to just bulk up on relievers instead.
  2. I am guessing with him and Smith this pushes Monty to the starting rotation.
  3. We should have offered them Matt Szczur and only had asked for one of those guys back instead.
  4. Although he also is an injury guy, I like Tim's idea of getting Holland. Let's put together the original Bullpen Of Doom. I could get behind that move as well.
  5. Even with Wade Davis on the team I think we need at least another bullpen arm. With guys on our team coming off injuries I think we need to pick up some guys who can pitch multiple innings. What about resigning Travis Wood he checks off all the boxes and Joe clearly loves Travis.
  6. I think the odds are that Soler is more over valued by this board then he is undervalued. On balance, I think the board probably values him right about where he should be. Some are too high, just as many are too low. I just think he'd have value to the right team. That said, the bulk of my trepidation over this potential deal is based on Davis' health. He does have value that's why the Royals are willing to give up a top of the line closer for him. Yes Davis only has 1 year left on his contract and has some injury concerns of his own but he has an established track record of excellence. We are trading from an area of strength to shore up an area of weakness. The Royals are doing the same so I think its a fair trade for both teams.
  7. If Davis is considered truly healthy, he'll command more than Soler. Soler just doesn't have much value. If Davis is sold off as a risk, Soler is enough. I wouldn't be surprised if Soler has more value than many think. Yes, he has only produced 1.5 fWAR, but he has only accrued just over a season's worth of PA. He has a ton of potential, and he has performed well in the postseason. He has been inconsistent in the regular season, but has had poor luck with regard to the timing of his injuries. No, the injuries are not a selling point, but I think the case could be made that Jorge has been the victim of some bad luck. Plus he's still hugely talented. I don't think that Jorge has a future with the Cubs, but I think he would be better used as an add-on piece in a larger deal. My gut feeling here is that Jorge is just as likely to break out a bit next year as Davis is to make through the season without his elbow exploding. I think the odds are that Soler is more over valued by this board then he is undervalued.
  8. Pomerantz and Bucholtz might be available any interest?
  9. For a year and a half worth of closers the Cubs have given up Gleyber and Soler. If only they'd have packaged them together at one point you'd think they could have landed a closer with a little bit of team control. I look forward to giving up Eloy for a season of whoever in 2018. And if we get 2 WS wins who cares?
  10. The Nationals finishing second again.
  11. If he's healthy he's one of the best closers in the game. I am sure Theo did his due dillengence and they believe he is healthy and capable of repeating his past success.
  12. Sale to the Red Sox for Moncada + Kopech and 2 others.
  13. Same. Soler plus lottery picks is easier to stomach then Chapman for Torres +.
  14. Well good luck with that.
  15. Locke is terrible that's a hard pass on him.
  16. It's funny how at one point the Padres were asking for your entire farm system for Ross and now they let him go for nothing.
  17. Let's just ignore what Eloy did today.
  18. Happ has a 2 run bomb to go with a double and a single so far. He also made a nice catch out there in left field.
  19. Given the lack of quality pitching on the free agency market I am surprised they didn't pick up the option, even if they just ended up trading him. They clearly have someone else in mind for that spot. I won't miss Hammel but he was fine as a 5th starter.
  20. Ehh I would prefer the Chapman/Melacon route. Sure the pick is at the end but if we keep giving away 1st round picks our minor system will be barren quickly. Plus a pen with Chapman/Melacon/Strop/ Edwards is just gonna be nasty.
  21. I was expecting Contreras as well but hopefully Coghlan comes through for us! Heyward can be a late inning defensive replacement for us all series if they want. I am tired of seeing Heyward bat so any one will be an upgrade over him.
  22. Yeah he made into second base just fine when I saw that I wasn't worried at all. It showed he could do it when it counts so that's good enough for me.
  23. I watched the AFL game today and Schwarber had no problems running the bases on his double that he hit. I was impressed at how well he was moving.
  24. I don't post that often but I horsefeathering loved watching the game tonight!
