  1. TINSTAAP strikes again. Shaw's looking primed for that #1 spot in the system anyways.
  2. Plus it will be delightful when AJ is manager during their next 21 game losing streak.
  3. As will be discussed at length when the NSBB Top 20s are released, there are roughly 30 guys in the system who can make a convincing argument for being in spots 11-20 on those lists. It basically comes down to personal preference for things like ceiling, floor, handedness, etc.
  4. The wrist bones are connected to the arm bones. The arm bones are connected to the elbows. The elbows are connected to the something. The somethings connected to the red thing. The red thing's connected to my wristwatch. Uh oh.
  5. This post gave me flashbacks to the Daytona Cubs. Every year, their entire season would usually get hurricaned out by mid-August.
  6. Given salary inflation, that might be a bargain come *checks notes* 2035. Dude's a unicorn.
  7. I think we all know what that really means for him:
  8. Also worth noting regarding Alcantara's HR numbers is how the baseball was doctored in the Southern League (again) for a good chunk of the first half.
  9. If this were a 20 game winning streak instead of a 20 game losing streak, the White Sox would only be 20 games under .500.
  10. Considering Carini just got paid off, it's pretty horsefeathers obvious she intentionally threw her match and staged this whole farce.
  11. I don't want to get excited about this team because it's had a few stretches where they fell flat on their faces after showing signs of life. But damnit, I'm getting excited.
  12. I looked away for a minute thinking I'd come back to the tying run at the plate with no outs, and the game is already over. This is weird.
  13. It's not quite as bad as it was last season, but a decent 4/5 starter is probably #3 on the needs list going into 2025, behind Catcher and Closer. I like the current depth, but the injuries to Brown, Wicks, and Horton have been seriously aggravating this season.
  14. MLBTR was speculating about it a few days ago. based on Nido's surgery. Nothing concrete.
  15. Ballesteros is a catcher much in the same way Kyle Schwarber was a catcher. He can play the position in a pinch, and maybe you can get away with him starting at catcher for 10-15 games over the course of a season, but he seems ticketed for DH/LF long term.
  16. Hah. Hahahaha. Hahahahahajahajajajajajajhahhahahaha!!!!
  17. Was Ball 2 as obviously Strike 3 as Gamecast seems?
  18. Mathis is a fascinating case to me. On the one hand, the models and metrics all seem to love his bat and he should presumably move quickly through the lower levels if he comes as advertised. On the other hand, I'm curious as to his eventual position. The Cubs announced him as a 3B when they drafted him, but I believe he got most of his playing time at 1B in college. He has the arm and athleticism to be an everyday 3B, but if he needs the reps, he'll likely start at a lower level than Cam Smith so he can work on his development. It also helps that Mathis turned 21 a week ago, so him starting at a lower level wouldn't be the worst thing for him. Food for thought. We'll see how the next few weeks shake out.
  19. It's kind of obvious if you've gone through this entire thread, but, for the records, all of the Cubs' draftees have signed.
  20. 1 - They finish the season with all of their key skill players healthy. Some positions are deep enough to withstand injuries that are part and parcel of any NFL season, and guys are going to get dinged up and need occasional games off, but injuries are also the easiest way to derail what could be an otherwise successful season. 2 - Record above .500, with the team either in a playoff spot or vying for a playoff spot in the last two weeks of the season. 3 - No QB controversies. I don't want the sort of season where people openly clamor for Tyson Bagent as the starter, and their opinions are taken seriously because Caleb is struggling badly. 4 - Top 15 offense, Top 10 defense. Reasonable things!
  21. I have this bizarre feeling that the team is about to go on a run, to the point where most of us get excited at the possibility of the Cubs making the 3rd WC spot, only for them to fall short by a game or two.
  22. The White Sox should throw in a first aid kit. Yeesh.
