  1. Yeah I was actually relieved I didn't get the NLCS tickets. I've got my room at the JW downtown for games 3, 4 and 5 of the World Series so I would love to be able to actually go to a game instead of just hitting up a bar in Wrigleyville.
  2. Are his constant injuries and his health good signs too? We don't HAVE to trade him. But that's not bad value(and it doesn't need to be a prospect, just that value equivalent) If we keep Dex, its not a horrible idea to look at the pitching he can net. If Candelario nets us the same, fine, look at moving him. But, looking at moving Soler isn't ridiculous at all. He's not very important to us, if we keep Dex. Even if he misses 80 games every year (like he did this year) he's still a surplus value for the next 4 years. You won't get that back in trade so yes it's stupid to trade him just because you can. That's why people who win the lottery go broke quickly.
  3. Didn't we literally just go through this with the too many shortstops and too many outfielders? OMG HOW WILL EVERYONE GET AT BATS?!?! Then Schwarber's knee died and having that depth didn't suck at all. This isn't a front office that is going to trade just because talking heads and analysts like Cameron don't know where the playing time will come from. And they're definitely not going to trade a guy making $3m, $4m, $4m, $4m for some shitty lotto ticket pitcher while bench bats cost $5m a year now. Soler produced 0.7 fWAR this year in 264 PA's which means you don't even have to do mental gymnastics to know that at his $3m salary he offered surplus production. His BB% was up considerably and his K% was down 5 points. Those are good signs for a guy getting ready to enter his age 25 season with 4 years of control left and it's also why he's projected at 1.2 WAR next year. What he's shown and his potential upside (I still believe in it) is worth more in actual value than any top 75 horsefeathers kicking pitcher.
  4. The fact that the only active Giants message board is an MLB.com board tells me more about that fanbase than spending 7 years in NorCal ever told me.
  5. Can someone please link me to instances of racism from Bumgarner? Strickland's is well-known but googling Bumgarner racist just brings links to asinine comments from Dodger fans For me it's when I ask them if they love Bumgarner and they'll respond with "yes because he's a fierce competitor" then I'll point out the racism of the fans which is what reeeeeally riles them up. Also, it hasn't just been Latin players, he shouted at Fowler and Heyward during a Spring Training game. He's a jackass.
  6. Calling out Giants' fans for being racist pieces of horsefeathers for hating Javy on Twitter while loving noted white assholes Bumgarner and Strickland is my new favorite thing.
  7. He wasn't even in the bullpen at the end of the game. Clearly injured. Edit: Guess I was wrong. Nobody sits in the bullpen in SF, relievers sit in the dugout. What's happened to Casilla is exactly what happened to Carlos Marmol except the racist fucks in San Francisco forget that he got a lot of big outs for them in all 3 of their title runs. I feel for the guy.
  8. Three friends of mine went to bed because they're terrible humans, I guess you fucks are my closest Cubs friends. Since I switched from cable to Sling I can't keep up with this thread because I'm behind a bit but my god this was an excellent read as far threads go. Food for thought...Heyward finished the season with a wRC+ of 72, which is exactly the Dodgers team wRC+ against lefties this year.
  9. Especially because Willy could not stop throwing the ball around the yard last night. I know only one got away but he was being too aggressive and inaccurate.
  10. No team purposely starting Gregor Blanco should be allowed in the playoffs.
  11. Dodgers have a wRC+ of 72 against lefties this year...the exact same number Heyward finished the season with. That's probably suboptimal to have a lineup full of JHey clones at the plate that don't play his level of defense.
  12. Most pitchers, even lefties with looping curveballs, don't purposefully elevate their curveballs like Hill does. And I wouldn't call Hill's curveball loopy since he spins it on multiple axis and has at least a couple variations. What makes him different is he uses the high fastball to setup high curveballs and that's what fascinates me. I've never seen a pitcher do it. Ted Lilly worked like that. Lilly never caught my eye when he pitched mainly because I was still playing and thought of the game differently, but taking a quick look at his pitch heat maps this is absolutely true. I'd be interested to know the data on Lilly's spin rates and such because Hill's are off the charts and he has openly discussed using that to his advantage.
  13. He had a ton of issues, and still does, with fastball command, but he's flipped the script on how to use a curveball. He used to throw it for swing and misses but now he throws it for strikes and wants the hitters to take the pitch. He's fascinating to watch. Isn't that what most lefties with big loopy curveballs (like Kershaw) do? Most pitchers, even lefties with looping curveballs, don't purposefully elevate their curveballs like Hill does. And I wouldn't call Hill's curveball loopy since he spins it on multiple axis and has at least a couple variations. What makes him different is he uses the high fastball to setup high curveballs and that's what fascinates me. I've never seen a pitcher do it. EDIT: It's why I was hoping the Cubs would sign him this offseason since it was basically no risk. Here's a good article that does a much better job at describing it in detail.
  14. He's not the same guy he was in Chicago. The curveball and variations of it are some of the best pitches in baseball. He allowed .33 HR/9 which is the best in baseball for anyone with 100 IP. He will still walk guy which is how you can get to him but since he's made the curveball his primary pitch he's been damn good. That's crazy because I remember his curve being pretty damn good in Chicago but it was probably his #2 pitch and I believe he had trouble locating it at times. But there was a time when we were really excited about Rich Hill as maybe a solid #2 of the future for the Cubs. This game sustained me for the entire 06 offseason He had a ton of issues, and still does, with fastball command, but he's flipped the script on how to use a curveball. He used to throw it for swing and misses but now he throws it for strikes and wants the hitters to take the pitch. He's fascinating to watch.

  16. Tonight we mercy flush MadBum's legend and the even year [expletive].
  17. Wait, has Montero suddenly become bad at framing? He's only playing bc of defense so why take him out for a worse defender? It's less the framing and more my dead grandmother could steal on him most of the season.
  18. that's 2 days rest they won't do that, but they are more than welcome to, if they want. horsefeathers me. I got to work at 630 this morning and evidently counting is hard.
  19. I think the racist dick Bumgarner will be pitching game 2 on 3 days rest.
  20. I'm pretty sure the first thing I noticed was how upset he was that the Cubs ended relationship with the Peoria Chiefs, and then they didn't include Peoria on that Cubs Caravan thing and maybe something about lack of WGN games. But he really reached his pinnacle when he openly wished for Addison Russell to fall flat on his face and have Samardzija prove how arrogant and wrong Theo was. Also his hottest take is Theo isn't better than Hendry. I have no idea how he manages to keep up with all the Cubs news between covering Peoria City Council meetings.
  21. Something Boone couldn't observe because he was too busy hoping the Cubs would blow the game because Maddon let Ross have his moment. I was skeptical of Mendoza only because I felt early in her tenure she would try to relate baseball and softball but she's been phenomenal. Boone sucks. I think even Boone is solid. He is but his weird reaction to the Ross stuff bugged me.
  22. yeah but it makes my ears sad to listen to a girl talk about sports.
