  1. The Red Sox were at $118m in obligations when today started, so it will be interesting to see how these contracts are paid out over the lives of the deals. I was surprised at how much they have expiring in 2015, looks like 44m or so? https://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?key=tz8qHiYrIzlFtVnly7gibjw&output=html Yeah so I am guessing the first year of each of these deals will be pretty low to keep them under the luxury tax. I wonder if they still have the flexibility to go after Lester?

  3. where are you seeing this? (that it sounds like it's nearing and that rumored figure, not that they're interested still) It's all over Twitter that Fatty is flying to Boston tonight to sign tomorrow. It's not official until Wittenmeyer says though.
  4. first derrick rose and now this [expletive] god This got a hearty chuckle out of me. I can't wait to read those best baseball fan tweets when 2 cancer survivors beat the cardinals. Also my buddy and his wife run a cancer survivor charity and are both good friends with Lester and his wife and the sonuvabitch won't even ask lester a questions hinting at this whole situation. I called him a selfish jackass because I've known him for 15 years and he's known this pitcher guy for about 2. Now I'm pissed off again.
  5. Of course they are. Guy wont even get 100ABs as Rizzo's back up and can't play OF anymore thanks to his knee surgeries. Between Swisher and Gomes, Theo is just determined to shove some old veteran club house guy down our throats. Yeah I couldn't stomach Swisher.
  6. Bruce Levine ‏@MLBBruceLevine 7h7 hours ago Cubs one of the teams that have inquired about Swisher .
  7. Did you miss the sarcastic posts on page 28? We were lamenting the fact that the Cardinals are now seemingly involved in Lester talks then sarcasm happened.
  8. I swear to god if the Cubs lose out on Lester to the [expletive] Cardinals I will lose my [expletive] mind. Jokes on them. We could get like Brett Anderson or something. 1/3 the production at 1/6 the cost. hell yeah. But then we'd have like a billion dollars in roll over cash to use to miss out on free agents next year. So I guess I am aboard the Brett Anderson as our big FA acquisition train.
  9. Posted this in the rumors thread but [expletive] it. I am mad about them even being in the [expletive] conversation.

  11. I didn't expect this to happen near this quickly. What little hope I had for Theo convincing him to wait is down around zero now. This whole situation is very weird to me. First, the commie government lets their best baseball player in a generation leave the country without a fight. Second, he has a CPA in Miami acting as his agent and has access to armed guards to kick out Boras' people (which is cool). And now he's declared a free agent in record time? It's probably nothing but it sure is weird set of circumstances that give the Yankees and Red Sox an advantage on signing him. All that being said, I would love for the Cubs to sign him and I'm guessing if he's offered big money to sign July 2 that he'd take it. It's already being reported he may wait until June, which is a good move for leverage as it brings all of the July 2 teams into play.
  12. The Pirates just traded LH reliever Justin Wilson for Yankees C Francisco Cervelli. I think this is a sneaky good move by Pittsburgh.
  13. Welp that's where you're wrong and it isn't arguable. He's not better than Kershaw, Hernandez, Price, Scherzer or Sale and that's without digging at all. He's probably more like top 12-20 starting pitcher. Zimmermann also has one year left before free agency and posted a season more than a win and a half better than his previous career high. So, if you're going to say he's more valuable than Castro going forward he better be a 5-6 win pitcher going forward because he's about to get very expensive. This shouldn't be that hard to grasp.
  14. Kap-Wittenmeyer-Rogers-Mooney might make my eyes bleed.
  15. And Wittenmeyer is a clown.
  16. Jesse Rogers has turned himself into the "temper expectations" guy and it annoys me. He just rattles off stuff like "You might be disappointed because they might not spend" what the actual [expletive] does that mean?
  17. He called Bosio "Bos" and said they're good friends.
  18. Oh this is gonna be good... what'd he ask? Accountability for Castro? He basically asked how Dusty and Lou (who he presumably thinks are on the same level as Maddon) couldn't get it done and why Maddon was gonna be different and topped it off with "do you know what the hell you've gotten yourself into?"
  19. God he just owned Kap. That was awesome.
  20. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2014/11/yoan-moncada-to-hold-showcase.html Yoan Moncada is seeking free agency and that could be a game changer depending on when he's declared a FA. Git r done Theo! I want ALL THE SHORTSTOPS!
  21. BRO! I AM SO EXCITED! BROOOOOOO!!!!! Dies of heart attack.
  22. The guy who wrote the brilliant Schwarber is finished because he's going to be a catcher instead of an outfielder article is spewing hot takes on Twitter if anyone wants to have some fun.
  23. .328/.373/.550, .390 wOBA, 153 wRC+ .278/.358/.527, .392 wOBA, 152 wRC+ One of those is Reggie Jackson's postseason line and the other is Panda's... Harold says plenty of dumb [expletive] but that wasn't one of those times.
  24. Russell almost killed the pitcher with a line drive in his second AB tonight and Vogelbach is 0-1 with 3 BB. His plate discipline is pretty impressive.
