  1. Oh god. That would be OUTSTANDING to watch.
  2. Aren't you glad you decided to go to school in Chicago? You, sir, have no soap dropping idea. I love it here.
  3. Eh, I don't know exactly how I feel about Z on 3 days rest. Here are his numbers (via baseball-reference.com) on 3 days of rest: Carlos Zambrano Career Splits: 3 Days I Year G GS GF W L S CG SHO IP ERA H R ER HR BB IBB SO HBP Year +-+-------+-----------+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+------+------+----+----+----+---+----+---+----+---+----+ 2002 2 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 3 3.00 2 1 1 0 0 0 2 0 2002 2007 1 1 0 0 1 0 0 0 5.1 6.75 7 4 4 1 3 1 1 1 2007 -+-------+-----------+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+------+------+----+----+----+---+----+---+----+---+----+ I Year G GS GF W L S CG SHO IP ERA H R ER HR BB IBB SO HBP Year He has only ever pitched on 3 days of rest 3 times, only one was a start. 4. I was there. And Michelle Gelian brushed past me. She's....nice. Anyway, for anyone that was watching on CSN, YOU COULD SEE ME! At the end of the rally the CSN guy (chuck gaudy?) was doing his little report and there was a huddle of cubs fans behind him, i was one of them. When the crowd sang go-cubs-go the last time he put the mic up to us then asked us the obvious "WHERE ARE THE CUBS GOING!?!?" questions. It was awesome. If anyone has a clip of it they can post online I would reaallly appreciate it.
  5. http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r71/bcvm22/zletter.jpg http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r71/bcvm22/znuclear.jpg http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r71/bcvm22/zexplode.jpg Odd seeing Z in the blues; I'm used to him in the pinstripes/road greys after this season. It's still odd seeing Z in th greys. He was ALWAYS in blues, and on a rare occasion pinstripes. never the greys. I blame that for his sub-par season. stupid cobs.
  6. I just went back and re-read this whole thread through to this point. This really is the best thread ever. Sorry, tree, but this even blows away your post-nomar-trade thread.
  7. http://www.mbe.doe.gov/me70/Manhattan/images/HiroshimaCloudLarge.gif I believe this is one of his more famous acts. Anyway, I tried checking jonmdavis.net but i know jon was planning on letting his contract expire there adn it looks like it did. Is jon even alive anymore? i haven't seen him in forever.
  8. National Media: STEVE BARTMAN, GOATS, AND 1908 LOL OMG WTF HAHAHA, CURSES GUYS, AM I RITE!!? just preparing you guys for what we're putting up with for the next few weeks.
  9. I'm sorry for having a correct opinion that people don't want to hear. oxymoron? do you even know what that word means Yes, oh wise one. I called it an oxymoron because an opinion, by definition, is neither right nor wrong; just an opinion. An opinion, therefore, can not be correct or incorrect. thus "correct opinion" could be an oxymoron. I didn't mean for anyone to take it quite so serious though.
  10. so 4 CT wed 6 CT thurs not official like he said, though Ohhh i hope so That gives me just enough time to either come home or go up to wrigley after class on thursday and watch the game. Does anyone know if there will be any non-bar hangouts in wrigleyville to watch games? or am I just better off hanging in my dorm and watching?
  11. yeah, the padres avatars were good for the time we needed them...but its time for them to go go go.
  12. this thread is so going down in nsbb history.
  13. A WINNAR IS YOU
  14. Predictive stats are not always true, that is correct. Because they are only predicting things based on what has happened in the past. However, that's still a helluva lot better than making up cliches. But, some stats are always the truth. They dont make up the fact that none of your starters cracked a .300avg (i know i know, terrible terrible stat to use to judge offensive ability...but it fits in this example).
  15. This myth needs to die RIGHT NOW. I'm completely sick of hearing it. Yeah, we got swept by Florida and it was pathetic...however, we did NOT back into the playoffs. The cubs have gone 13-7 in their last 20 games. That's hardly "backing" backing in? I think not crushing Brewers had a chance to tie by winning two straight vs a depleted Padre team, IIRC. They went on to win their last two games, it could have resulted in a tiebreaker. I may be wrong, but I think that's what I heard. It may not have necessarily been backing in, but getting swept in FLA could have been fatal. So, what you're saying is, if things would have turned out differently, then things would have turned out differently? Wow, great observation. And what if the cubs DIDNT get swept by the marlins? That's just the same as saying if the Brewers could have beat the padres. You seem to like to deal with hypotheticals and non-fact-based statements an awful lot. You guys deserved it anyways, Brewers fell apart, and never recouped. You guys also like to use the whole pythag stat a lot. Check this out Because it's a stat. Dealing with real numbers and occurrences to estimate what will most likely happen in the future. You're just wildly spraying random statements with no factual backup
  16. Talk about looking for the easy answer to a problem. It's nonsense like this that allows for people to accuse anyone and everyone of steroids. As jjgman21 pointed out earlier, there were some injuries to some of the games big HR hitters that most likely cost them quite a few HR. Sure, there was probably a small effect of the PED crackdown, but I really think it amounts to a fluke year more than anything else. If in 2 or 3 years the numbers are still this low...then we'll see. Small effect? Your head in the sand, naive attitude about the steroids issue is nonsensical. I have no doubt that many players took steroids for quite a while and that it has had an effect. But the fact i am arguing is how many fewer players there were who hit 40+HR. And many of those who usually hit 40 didnt due to injury or flukish bad seasons. So you can't put all the blame on steroids in this instance.

  18. Having a terrible offense and a decent pitching staff and ending up with 90 wins? So explain how the Cubs are soooo superior to us. You guys only scored like 40 more runs than us, not whole lot. We have the 7th best SP ERA. .5 behind CHC .6 from being the 2nd best in MLB. Do you realize that that's quite a bit? Not really when you're 90-72 compared to 85-77 in the best division in all of MLB WHAAAAATTTTT? Ever heard of the AL east? You're probably right, but 4 teams over .500 when LA was a bunch over .500 not too long ago. It's easily the best in the NL. We won the toughest division. The Cubs got lucky as well. Milwaukee could have EASILY been tied in the Central had they not bent over for SD, you guys got swept by FLA. We both backed into the playoffs, both teams should be fortunate it didn't come down to a tiebreaker. This myth needs to die RIGHT NOW. I'm completely sick of hearing it. 20. I'm just curious as I watch this drama unfold, precisely what sort of response were you expecting to your "Throw out the stats, this team knows how to win!" stance, especially coming into a message board dedicated to your team's first round opponents? Just forget it, this will never get anywhere when like you said, this is a Cubs board. I know that, I'm not here to start ish, I just want to talk about the series and give you guys insight on the D'Backs and like to read about your guys' opinions while stating mine as well. Thats fine; but just a little advice. Things like "throwing stats out the window" won't get you far around here. Before a series starts, that's all we have to go on is stats. And it's not like people just randomly make up these "stats." They are simply numerical accounts of things that have actually happened. Sure, we can talk about non-fact-based things such as a "team knowing how to win" (whatever the hell that means). In that case: Theriot has more grit in his left shoelace than your entire team does! See? Didn't really accomplish anything.
