  1. That's the problem. Please elaborate why ball players who supposedly want to play deep into October would need anything other than their play to fire them up?
  2. Because it was Hill who let the ball drop in right or threw the ball to first when he should've gone to third or threw home when he should've gone to first  I don't get this unwritten rule where it's against policy to criticize young players or your favorites. Lee is stinking right now, so is Walker. His miscues (at the plate and in the field) have been killing us over the last ten games. And, yes, they are two of my favorites. Rich Hill can't throw strikes, and when he does it costs him 100 pitches in five innings. It's not too hard calling out players when they aren't performing even if they are your favorites. Question: why is it the Mets have no problem solving a pitcher they see for the first time, but we look like Little Leaguers against guys we haven't seen?
  3. I've heard talk, and it's just talk, that the owners may be doing to increase the value of the team (inlcuding the new stadium and ballpark village) with the possibility of selling the team in a couple of years. KTRS doesn't have the strong signal that KMOX does. In fact, I've gone across the river into Illinois when listening to Blues games and the signal would begin to get weak. The Cardinals already have a ton of radio affiliates, so maybe they will need to pick up a couple more that's closer to St. Louis. KTRS carries a fairly weak signal especially at night.
  4. I hope Hairston isn't hurt too bad. I hate for anyone to get hurt, but we wouldn't miss him that much. The only good offensive quality I've seen of him, ability to take walks, has been almost non-existent lately. Who I do fear is hurt is DLee. I thought his shoulder might be bothering a week ago, but saw him grimace again tonight after swinging. I think he may be playing hurt. That would explain his dropoff in average over the few games.
  5. The Cards' flagship station for the past 52 years has been KMOX. The Cardinals have announced that next year they will move to 550 KTRS. Evidently the money package was too much for KMOX to match. It'll be interesting to see what the fans say since KTRS doesn't have nearly the coverage area that KMOX does. KTRS currently carries the Blues and the Rams. But for baseball fans this is big news, similar to if the Cubs left WGN radio.
  6. It's interesting you have "Play Cedeno" in bold letters. Who's fault is it that we have no idea if Cedeno could be an everyday SS? Who's fault is it when Remlinger is brought in yet again against a lefty to give up a hit? How about continuing to start "Holly" when he's hitting .250? How about never trying a squeeze play when the O is struggling? Oh I forgot, "My guys don't bunt" another Dusty excuse. Yeah, tonight is all on the players, but no way is Dusty getting off easy in my book for this teams failures. The items I paranthesized are examples of excuses given by Dusty, not the fans. Who on this team do you feel comfortable asking to lay down a sac bunt, let alone a squeeze bunt? Maybe I was taught and told wrong, but you don't learn fundamentals at the major league level. That's what little league, high school, college, and the minors are for. I don't know of one major league pitcher when asked, "What are you supposed to do when the ball is hit to the right side?" answer, "I don't know. Maddux, Hairston. That's the problem. Those guys aren't up when it's time for a squeeze play. And leave Hairston out of it, he'd miss the sign.

  8. He's hitting .342 with RISP, so I don't see your point there. Seriously, he made a bad mistake, but you're overreacting. Overreacting? I've been saying this for almost two years. Yeah, he has a .342 avg. with RISP. I'd like a break down on that, because he's 1 for his last 4, I believe (the one being the hit against AZ). Were his hits when the game was on the line or to bring the game closer? All I know is from here on out, watch his at-bats with RISP. And see how many times he gets himself down in the count when it's the pitcher who should have the pressure on him. I'm not one who goes off on guys unnecessarily after a loss, we all know it's too many on here for that, but I've been consistent in my dislike for Barrett and his $3 million/year contract. I'm also one to go to the numbers when an argument is on the line. I was not expecting to find this, but I feel it'd be unfair to only post numbers that support my side, so... Barrett's numbers Close and late - 57AB, OBP .279; OPS .683 Close And Late - results in the 7th inning or later with the batting team either ahead by one run, tied or with the potential tying run at least on deck. Thanks. It's unusual to see someone post numbers that contradict their side. I appreciate you doing that. But I watch and listen to too many Cub games and knew I was way more disappointed with Barrett with RISP especially in late game action. I like his approach early in games, but it just seems to me that he becomes more anxious and less patient late in games, especially in crucial situations.
  9. The team? If the team quit we'd be losing a bunch of 10-2 games not one or two run games. Or do you mean Williams and Barrett have quit? This was a terrible effort overall all evening. Those two were the main culprits but Walker made a weak throw on a potential DP which cost outs. Lawton taking a poor route in the ninth that could have been disasterous. This is the kind of "effort" that is indicative of a team quitting. Those two instances are more indicative than DLee taking a ball to the bad and sliding to make the unassisted play? Or Walker running hard to first on a comebacker to Wagner? Or Jerry Hairston diving in the outfield? Or Neifi, yes, I said Neifi, getting two hits? I think they were just bad plays, period, and not indicative of a team quitting.
  10. For all the griping we're doing, let's not forget the 2-2 pitch should've been called strike three. The umps at times have screwed us too.

  13. It sure would be nice if we could find ways to score 5 runs. I hate the Williams made two critical mistakes giving the Phils two runs. Otherwise, we probably win the game tonight. But then again it took a bloop double just to get us to tie it. Am I the only one that thinks Derrek Lee is playing hurt? Back to Barrett. For a catcher, I think he's one of the least baseball savvy guys that I've seen. I still can't believe how defensively his at-bats are when he's up with runners in scoring position. We aren't a good enough team to make up for many stupid mistakes. I would've liked to have seen Wuertz try and work out of that jam. Plus, we probably missed hearing the biggest "boo" in sports if Barrett would've just held onto the ball. The Philly crowd would've forgotten about the good season Burrell has had and would've lit him up.
  14. Bad coaching? Give me a break. These guys have been playing baseball almost all of their lives. It's not like they've never been told to cover first base or gone over other basic fundamentals. I'm curious when people who do little but criticize Perez, Macias, Baker, Hollandsworth, etc. will take notice that we have a $3 million catcher who is hardly earning his money. He is one of the few guys I know who hits defensively with men in scoring position. Hey, Barrett, How about yelling, "Get over!", when the ball is hit to the right side. You hear Matheny do it all the time with the Giants. I gave Barrett the benefit of the doubt for far too long. I now see why Felipe Alou said Barrett would never be a major league catcher when he was in Montreal.
  15. Why can't Remlinger be designated for assignment? If he hadn't have been clumsy and hurt himself he would've been traded.
  16. One of the funniest things I've read on here! :lmao:
  17. I heard it's on USA Today's website. Man, there were some people questioning whether or not he was a HOFer. Now, there may be more people thinking the same thing. Didn't he say, "I've never used steroids" to Congress? At least McGwire can say he never lied in his testimony.
  18. Yeah, I heard that it's "A big name", but they wouldn't name the player.
  19. No need to apologize; I don't think either should get in. But because of the way it is now, there's a compelling argument that Edmonds could get in.
  20. I try to stay away from listening to St. Louis sports talk because they are such kool-aid drinkers...anyway... this guy, who I already can't stand, just stated that if Andre Dawson gets elected than Jim Edmonds should be elected as well. According to him, Edmonds has more career hr's, rbi's, higher avg., and gold gloves than Dawson. See, this is why I state that the Hall should only be for the greatest of the great, so there's none of this, "Well if he gets in, then you have to let this guy in" stuff.
  21. If you're the Reds GM, what realistic chance do you have at signing Dunn when he becomes a free agent? If you're the Reds GM, how much money do you want Dunn taking up when resources are limited? Answering my question with a question, eh? Okay. I'll answer. If I'm the Reds, I look at Dunn how the Cubs look at Aramis Ramirez, as a cornerstone. The Griffey deal they have stinks, but I still would look to move him although I think he has three years left on his contract. If he's able to play the last two months healthy, he may be wanted in the offseason by a couple of teams. Basically, I'd center the offense around Lopez, Dunn and Kearns. Casey and Pena should be shipped for pitching. It makes absolutely no sense for the Reds to not try and lock up Dunn. But the Reds organization has not been accused of being too bright lately. Politically, they should lock up Dunn to justify the public spending on Great American Ballpark.
  22. I've read in a couple places that the A's gm (Billy Beane) called up the Reds gm (Dan O’Brien) and asked about the availability of Adam Dunn. O'Brien said that unless the name Rich Harden was going to come up, they had nothing to discuss. That was the end of that. O'Brien apparently doesn't like being a gm or something, because if he thinks the best strategy is to make insane trade offers to other teams and then do nothing, he's going to struggle. I don't understand why that is an insane offer. People are saying how great Dunn is and then expect the Reds to only ask for peanuts for Dunn. He should be the cornerstone of that team and the Reds should expect rightful compensation for a player like him.
  23. Well, I was origionally not in favor of this trade either. Not so much because I didnt like it, but moreso because I wanted somebody bigger. Now that I've had a night to think of it, I really do like this deal. To answer some of your concerns. If you wanted someone bigger, were you ready to give up somebody big? For example, Hill, Pie, Murton, Harvey, etc? That's why I didn't want a big deal. The only way a big deal was going to be done is if 1) we gave up top tier prospects, or 2) get a high priced big time player whose team is looking to get rid of money. Either way, I didn't want to go. I would have given up Hill (in a package) to get Dunn, but only Dunn. Youth for youth, exchange of needs. Keep Pie at all costs. You can't just say in a package. Who would the package consist of? I'd equate Cincy's asking price of Dunn to be what you'd ask a team what you'd exchange Aramis Ramirez for.

Thats how most big players are moved. I would much rather see Adam Dunn patrolling left then Matt Lawton in center/left. However, I am still very happy with what we got. Let's play GM for a minute. If you are the Reds' GM, what would you have asked the Cubs for in exchange for Dunn? What I don't get is how people thought Dunn would get shipped when he should be the cornerstone of that team. I see no reason why fans would go to the park to see them play if Dunn wasn't on the team. Griffey is not the Griffey from 5-10 years ago. I still think Griffey may be dealt somewhere.
