That play did not cost us the game, but Walker gets the blame because of the bobble or trouble he had getting the ball out of his glove that disrupted the timing of the play. Cedeno's throw was poor because as he threw it the runner (I forgot who it was) actually made an attempt to grab the bag and when he couldn't he grabbed Cedeno's foot making Cedeno get off a poor throw. These guys are adults who have been playing baseball all their lives. If they have to act like babies I don't fault the manager, I fault the players. Walker threw Cedeno under the bus with his comment that you'd have to ask Cedeno what happened on the throw when Walker was right there as Cedeno was being tripped up. I understand when fans don't want to place any blame on "their" guy, but you can't then blame Baker or anyone else who does the same thing. I still don't know why more wasn't mentioned of Walker's lie when he created a stir by saying he never spoke to Baker during the offseason when a month later he admitted he did. As I said earlier, it was always curious to me that any team could've had him, as Hendry was seemingly dangling him , yet no one wanted him.

In rivalries, I stated how Cardinal fans were going ballistic because the Cards were on an eight game losing streak, their first since 1988. I wonder how many eight game + losing streaks we've had over the last eight years let alone the last eighteen!

Having a very good GM, Dave Dombrowski, helps, too. Oh, yeah, I forgot the owner did state when he purchased the team that he wanted to bring good baseball back to Detroit and field a winner. I don't think I've ever heard Dennis FitzSimmons say that.

I think many fans have lost their objectivity because of their hatred for this team. I really hate this particular team and the organization. But Todd Walker has to go. I know it's a shock to some people, but we talk about how Baker states "untruths" well so did Walker so we should hold him accountable. Remember early in the offseason he claimed that he hadn't talked to Baker, but then in January he came out and said he did? Anyway, very suspicious how he could've been gotten for a bag of peanuts and a relatively low salary yet no one wanted him. Now he's continuing the let's criticize the announcers brigade. I don't know if he bobbled the ball but he did seem to have trouble getting the ball out of the glove, thus disrupting the timing a little bit, but I won't say that cost us the game. Heck, we were three runs down and only half the ballgame was over. Anyway, as far as Jacque Jones goes, I don't know what the fans said and I bet most of you don't. It's totally different to say, "You guys suck" vs. your mama this or your wife that. I don't know what was said. All I know is we can no longer make fun of Philly fans.

Cedeno swings at the first pitch, again, and lines out to right. Even when Trachsel was with the Cubs, I never understood why guys would swing at his first pitch. The guy can rarely get his breaking pitch over the plate and can only retire you early in the count if you make contact. I don't think he can strikeout a hitter (non-pitcher) on three pitches.

Or get traded somewhere with a better team I don't think Jacque Jones is going anywhere with 2 1/2 years on his contract left. Can't we give this guy his props, for now, since most of us (me included) rode him hard for the first six weeks of the season?

I almost wish Verducci hadn't pointed directly to the Cubs when talking about their poor OBP. I think this will just make Hendry more and more resistant to change his philosophy.

I was speaking from their perspective rather than my own. Also, there are plenty of guys out there with high averages and OBPs that are not much higher. The guy batting leadoff for the Cubs, for example. Like I pointed out in my other post, if you look up the top 40 OBP guys in the majors 37-38 of them are good hitters. Sure there are some good hitters that don't have high OBP, just as there are bad hitters that have outstanding OBP, but they tend to be the exception rather than the norm. Now you've opened up a can of worms. What is a good hitter? How much better is a .310 hitter vs. a .285 hitter? A .300 hitter vs. a .270 hitter? I'd be willing to guess that the top OBP guys with the high averages you and Hendry addressed, have a high OBP and avg. because they are primarily in hitters' counts, which means having patience. -

So the fact that the Cubs as an orginization are putting more of an emphasis on OBP is bad thing? Fact? The only thing I know is that Hendry said we are. Saying and doing are two different things. Maybe once we start developing good position players maybe we'll be able to see if the organization is putting more of an emphasis on OBP or not. -

I didn't listen to the interview but it sounds like the same interview I've heard from Hendry before. If I'm mistaken I apologize, but some of you sound like you're surprised with some of Hendry's comments or lack of comments, particularly regarding OBP. Is it that you've been so focused on blaming Dusty that Hendry's philosophy/beliefs flew under your radar screen? I've been in civil and not so civil discussions in the past about my belief that Baker and Hendry are essentially of the same philosophy in just about every area of baseball. -

I went last night, July 5th. What did you think of Scott Taylor from what you saw? Also, their closer last night was Matt Avery, who's been lights out down there. Sorry, I don't remember Scott Taylor. Was he the starter that night. As I said earlier, no one really impressed me other than the closer; but, again, that's the first Chiefs' game I went to and I don't follow the minors at all. I do remember the starter getting hammered, but getting out of jams. Clinton's pitcher looked really good,but left after like 5 innings. I don't know why he was taken out because he wasn't in trouble. The Chiefs then pretty much hit Clinton's bullpen. Taylor was the starter for Peoria. His line that day was: 6 IP, 6H, 1 ER, 1/3 K/BB, WP. Clinton might have taken out their pitcher due to pitch count concerns... Thanks. Yeah, he gave up like four or five hits within his first two innings and then settled down.

Sorry for the delay. I forgot I had posted on this page -- I don't follow the minors so I'm rarely, if ever, on here. Anyway, that's all I saw. Avery had pretty much an easy ninth inning. I wonder if Hendry was checking him out when he went to Peoria.

If he wants to be stubburn maybe this will help push out the door then. It's about the organization and not Jim Hendry or Dusty Baker and they are not doing their jobs. This debacle is sickening. That's just it. Hendry has always been stubborn, but he hasn't been in our view. We know Dusty is stubborn because we are able to see him for 162 games. I don't think Hendry has no more value for OBP now than what he did in 2003, 20004 and 2005. I still think he values a guy who throws 96+ but can'tthrow strikes over someone at 89 mph who can throw strikes, and on two occasions since August of 2005 he has publicly stated that he takes full responsibility for the crap that is on the field and he has said, "I have to do a better job", yet, he hasn't. In one area he could've done a better job is by firing Baker, but he hasn't done that. And, don't get your hopes up about Hendry being pushed out the door. Remember, MacPhail didn't fire another horrible GM, Ed Lynch, in fact Lynch had to offer a second resignation before MacPhail would accept it. So, I don't see Hendry being fired, even though both he and Baker should be.

I don't understand the "play the kids" talk. What makes you think HIll, Guzman, Murton, Marmol, etc are in the Cubs' long-term plans? Weren't Nolasco and Sisco supposed to be in our future plan, too? I'm glad some of you seem to know what Hendry wants to do because I sure don't. These guys should be given opportunities (maybe not Hill, who I still think will be a AAAA pitcher --hope I'm wrong), but I'm not sold on Hendry being a future-oriented guy.

That is complete BS dalgreen, complete BS. I'm resigned to the fact that Hendry is here through 2007. I don't think we might as well keep him, and I've never said anything like that. I think he should be gone yesterday and I've been saying it for a very long time. That doesn't even come close what you characterize the situation as. Pretty much everybody gave up on Hendry a long time ago. But there's zero chance he won't be back in 2007. There is a significant chance that Baker won't be here, so people are pouncing on that story more. You saying that is completely BS is completely BS, goony. You said it last week in a post we responded to. I never, never said you like the guy, I said you, and others, have said that we might as well keep him and let him hire a manager and if it fails then he's gone after 2007, which is basically what I stated above. Did I misrepresent your feeling? I'm saying let's cut the middle man because I don't think he's capable of hiring a good manager, so eat his contract and hire a new GM.

\ 3 game winning streaks against the brew crew are apparently huge. Here's to a 15 game losing streak starting out with the Mets. I want Dusty humiliated and Hendry to look like the idiot he is. I want them both gone. But I don't understand those who want Baker fired right now but are willing to give Hendry another opportunity next year to overpay for mediocrity and "toolsy" players. Who is saying they are willing to give Hendry another opportunity? I haven't heard any Hendry support in quite some time around here, certainly not in the posts you quoted. The difference between Hendry and Baker is we know we are stuck with Hendry, because of the contract. There is a chance Baker could be gone. There's blood in the water with Baker, but Hendry's being kept in a high security chamber. There have been people, including you, who have said we might as well keep Hendry through 2007 because of his contract, while letting him hire a new manager. I understand it, but don't agree with it. I don't get the faith in Hendry being able to hire a very good manager, let alone creating a roster that would contend for the NL Central.

I'm not saying that the coaching staff should say..but what about Jones and Barrett? Jones is hitting much better then expected, and Barrett has improved every year since coming to the Cubs. Also, Walker, Murton, and Cedeno have met the expectations of most baseball analysts, and Ramirez met expectations till his tough year this year. That is half the roster this year. In order to get quality you will have to give up quality. Yeah, Barrett's production has been nice, but it's been nice because we haven't had production from left field in two seasons and right field for a 1 1/3 seasons. If we had high OPS guys in the outfield, we would be okay without Barrett's bat (providing Ramirez hits and our leadoff guy gets on base).
