  1. I don't have a problem getting Porcello and Thompson back, but Garcia seems pretty useless. I wonder if Garza+Gregg+Russell could get us Castellanos. I'm with this. Honestly, Porcello looks like a guy whose about to turn the corner and become an elite SP, which is what his talent level equals. In some ways he already has turned the corner (isn't his xfip like 3.25ish 2012-2013). There is a pretty damn good chance he's straight up better than Garza period in the immediate future. That being said, I have no interest in Garcia. No matter what the age to level ratio is, I have little interest in a corner OF/RF who has a career ops in the minors of .730 or whatever Garcia's is right now. I'd like something else plz Again, regardless, ignoring money, prospect hype, etc. there's a lot of reason to take Porcello for Garza straight up, so adding Thompson or Garcia (or anyone else) is fine. I personally don't think we'll get a better SP prospect than Porcello. Skaggs simply unavailable. And Bauer <<< Porcello
  2. His numbers look doubly crazy when you see how bad the Southern League is at offense. I had no idea he was 5th in the league in OPS. Only Pederson has more HRs than him among players under 25
  3. Well it's worth asking and negotiating, but I respect Towers and Antonetti. They do get things like this. to CaliforniaRaisin we're sure as heck not getting Urias though we both know that. I'd love him though.
  4. Perhaps this will make you feel better. It takes a while for power to develop. Thanks for reminding me that Josh Donaldson is #7 in WAR for all position players....
  5. Can someone tell me why we're assuming that Tyler Skaggs or any top 50 pitching prospect is available for Matt Garza from the Indians or D-Backs? Neither Arizona, Cleveland nor the LA Dodgers have a good shot of making the playoffs thru the wild card. It's division or nothing. Perhaps Garza for two months gives them the one or two wins needed to get them over the top, but is that worth a top 50 prospect w/o the compensation pick in next year's draft? I mean the only reason I think they would consider trading a guy like Skaggs for Garza is if the D-Backs are confident that the trade means they will have a good chance of signing Garza long-term. Really, of the three that leaves the Dodgers. Arizona or Cleveland may offer a top 50 to 100 prospect for 2 months of Garza, but the Dodgers may offer a top 50 guy like Joc Pederson for Matt Garza. I'd prefer a pitcher obviously if the prospects are equivalent, but I'd take Pederson over a lower echelon pitching prospect, just because they are a pitching prospect. Maybe Bauer's stock has fallen far enough that he may be available. But, I think the recent reports of the Cubs looking at a Garza extension may be a sign that an elite SP simply isn't available because of the new rules. Maybe last year if he didn't get hurt... Anyways, I hope Soriano's recent hot streak could help turn him into a top 100 prospect -- or a top 100 talent prospect whose stock is down (Solis even fits that bill) -- if we pick up most/all of his contract in 2014. There's no reason not to trade Soriano *and* pick up his contract in '14 if it gets us a decent prospect.
  6. Gameday #2 of Baez in Double A was not as successful as day one. 0 for 7. I guess a silver lining is only 2 K's.
  7. What about Robbie Ray, though he just made his first start in Double A. He's the National's version of Dillon Maples from the 2010 draft, except of course, pitching. He's a lefty who sits in the low 90s but can turn it up to 96. He was all kinds of awful in High A as a 20 year old -- he had one more strikeout than runs allowed -- but this year he's been pretty good in his second trip to Potomac. He's leading the league in strikeouts, just ahead of teammate AJ Cole. He has some walks issues, but he's a young lefty with a pretty good arm who has, to this point, gotten a bunch of whiffs. He may have powered himself above Sammy Solis and Brett Mooneyham, but he was pretty far off the radar coming into the season. While I'd love Purke or Mooneyham, or even Solis, Ray also interests me though it's a pipe dream scenario. I don't know anything about Ivan Pineyro, but he's intriguing. He pitched well in A before making the jump to High A, has a good career K rate and doesn't walk a lot of people. No idea what stuff he has though.
  8. Yes, the question I want to know is the frequency of the big leaps and what not for teams with the last four to five years being poor.
  9. Kudos to Cooper on that one.
  10. It depends, the organization is smart enough not to in order to limit super-two status/which year he becomes arb eligible, etc.
  11. With his stuff Arrieta could be one heck of a closer. If we are going to stash him in Iowa, might as well try it out.
  12. Garza for Skaggs or Bradley? Hell I'd throw in something with unproven upside potl like Vitters or Jackson or even someone we're less likely to utilize like Vogelbach
  13. It's not a 1 in 3 chance, and the cost isn't the salary, it's the innings you waste finding out. well yes and no. It depends on the leverage of said innings. If they run his sorry ass out there in the ninth of one run ballgames then yes.
  14. While Ned Coletti deserves most of his bad rep, trading peanuts for Marmol and only having to pay him league minimum isn't a bad deal. There's a decent chance he becomes useful in the pen again. Even if it's a 1 in 3 chance, league min for 3 months is worth checking out
  15. http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/arizona-diamondbacks-wont-rush-into-pitching-upgrade-ricky-nolasco-yovani-gallardo-jeff-samardzija-patrick-corbin-062713 Please no. Just no.
  16. No, but his mechanics, a speed and torque on his elbow were bound to reduce his effectiveness over time. He was never going to be a guy with an average lifespan on his arm.
