  1. Do the stats back that? I know there is a pretty small sample size. I hear people say that he is a great fielder all the time, but is that just because he is fast and hustles? Or is he really a good fielder? There are no fielding stats (not even the newer ones) that are accurate...for outfielders... You cant judge him much fastre he is than Sori..How many more balls he'd get to. Sometimes just getting to the ball stops the runner. You can only use the 'eye-test on that.. He has speed that takes away hits..obviously and his arm is average. But you are right, in my mind. his sample size is VERY small. He's been used as a bit player until now and he hasnt played as much as we think he has... Dale has been patient with him the last week..as Dale has been with Ian Stewart..who has much more of a track record .. For the record..I'd play him against right handers and use him as the 'bench weapon' when lefties start. If Sori is moved this year..LaHair will go to left and Tony would be the late inning 'caddy'
  2. That's why Samardzija is our best trade bait... Low price..high return
  3. All good answers..(except the food channel response) :-k But what do you want to do right NOW... until September when Jackson gets here Give him a chance to prove himself and be Juan Pierre....(who played on a title team) ....or give upon him after 13 of a season...at age 26.. Do you KNOW how good he can get? He has never hit homers and has never driven in runs. but he;s stolen 50-60 And we dont have a better defensive center fielder.. Eventually..Bret Jackson plays CF....1/2 of his hits are extra base hits..and he steals, too Jackson is Campana on steroids. ... What Campana is auditioning for is the LF spot when Sori is gone... He is NOT the new regime's kind of player who takes picthes and gets deep in the count. CHOICES: 1. Play his only against righties....and cite the numbers 2. Drop him to the 2nd or 8th spot and play him against everybody..in the hope that he starts making more contact...Its a lost season. You may find a gem. He really hasnt started that many games yet...and he's always hit 3. Give up on him as an everyday player...and tell him that some folks are netter suited for bench play. Play 'Super Joe' Mather everyday and use Campana as the pinch run/base steal weapon off the bench. Ask him to accept that role....like Reed Johnson and Jeff baker accept their bit roles. Tell him the alternative to such acceptance is Iowa. 4. Do Dusty a favor and trade him to Cincy where he'd be a hometown hero and would help their pennant drive. If you ever listen to Cincy radio when they play the Cubs. They love him.
  4. To all.. I think 'Little Tony' is the perfect leadoff man and a solid underrated defensive player.. ..but he cant fall behind in the count and strikeout so much in the leadoff spot.. He's part of the reason we get shut out...so much He can be a major success by just hitting ground balls..no one has an answer for him defensively onthe bases...but he seems so anxious. I want to stick with him..because if he can gain confidence and hit line drives and ground balls 90% of the time...he'd be a major force..a player unlike any other in the Cubs organization... ...but eventually (re: the all-star break) Brett Jackson gets to Chicago and takes his place... ...making him a bench player forever.. In a lost season..what do you want to do with Tony Campana.?
