  1. Why not just even out the leagues and eliminate interleague play altogether? For me personally, the novelty has worn off. Either go with a completely balanced scheduled across both leagues or go back to the traditional schedule with no interleague play. This is part of the mentality I don't get. Nobody says a word when teams from other conferences play each other in football, baseball, or hockey during the regular season. Why is it so bad when an AL team plays an NL team? With the Astros moving over and having 6 divisions of 5 teams each and IL play spread out the entire season, I think that's best case. They could even it out even more, though. A home and home with each team in another division in the opposite league is 30 games. 18 games against each of the other 4 teams in your division, and then a home-and-home with every other team in your league is 60 games. That's 162.
  2. How is assuring the correct outcome on the field "awful?" Have you ever watched an NFL game? Most challenges take 5 minutes and 75% of them confirm the call on the field, and they most definitely do not "assure" a correct outcome. Very few NFL challenges take 5 minutes. And if it means the correct call is on the field, whether it confirms or overturns the refs call, then as a football fan I'm ok with that.

  4. Sad news. I remember when he pitched for us. He pitched 8 2/3rds innings of no-hit ball against the Cardinals at Wrigley before Bernard Gilkey tripled. http://espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/id/9520068/body-ex-mlb-pitcher-frank-castillo-recovered-arizona
  5. Well, whatever he's owed after 2014 anyway, as the Yankees at least aren't on the hook for any suspension money.
  6. So basically his career is over. Nice. Although he will still maintain HOF eligibility and could manage/GM/own a club in the future-- not that any of that is likely to happen, but he's not banned from it. Also the thing that sucks most is he'll probably retire and that means the Yankees are off the hook for that $90 million just like they wanted all along.
  7. MLB is going to announce all the Biogenesis suspensions this week. A-Rod is expected to be banned through the conclusion of the 2014 season, playoffs included. http://www.fannation.com/truth_and_rumors/view/396731-mlb-ready-to-reveal-all-biogenesis-suspensions?eref=sihp
  8. Sounds like it's happening. Soriano's taking the red-eye flight to NY tonight, according to Muskat and Paul Sullivan.
  9. That was brutal. Will probably go down as one of the more disturbing sports injuries in history. In case anyone hasn't seen it, Eric Young stepped on the back of his ankle while Hudson was covering first (Hudson's foot was in the middle of the back, Young couldn't really avoid it on the close play) and his ankle basically snapped exactly like you'd expect from a "gruesome injury". How bad when compared to the Jason Kendall ankle injury?
  10. Hrm burp ha that's totally the same thing as amazingly making a player good. No, but they allow players to be better for longer, letting them work out harder and more frequently, and also helping them with endurance. And no, they don't magically make a player a great hitter, but it stands to reason that big muscles = can hit the ball further, therefore more XBH, correct? Yes, the player still needs to make contact and I agree that PED's don't help with that.
  11. Please inform us how they work. Well, the old timers, like Aaron and Mays (and the hundreds of other guys from the 50s to the 80s that used them), used them because the PEDs allowed them to be able to play at the same level all season, even during the dog days when it was 85 and humid at night. They kept the players bodies from wearing down during the season. I'd assume the new guys, A-Rod, McGwire (and the hundreds other guys from the 90's and 00's that used them), used them for the same reasons. Hrm... so what you could say is that the drugs enhanced the performance. Very interesting.
  12. I have an inkling you might be right. That may not be their primary motivation, but it's definitely one of the deciding factors. Also, reports are that A-Rod is going to dig in his heels and not accept any sort of plea deal, and will appeal any suspension. http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/mlb/2013/07/23/alex-rodriguez-biogenesis-mlb-negotiations-suspension/2579977/ The standoff begins.
  13. Not sure, but it's not like he has a chance in hell of getting in anyway. Not in our lifetimes, but maybe decades down the road if public perception of PED's and their users in the past have changed.
  14. I don't think so. The '03 test wasn't supposed to count against the players who volunteered for it. Wasn't that his only real link before this? Yeah, under the terms of the agreement A-Rod can't be punished for that '03 test.
  15. Wasn't there a situation floated in late 2005 with the Cubs against the Marlins in Wrigley with the Marlins as the home team because of a hurricane? It didn't happen but I know there was lots of talk about it.
  16. The lifetime ban is kind of like when the NCAA came to the table with Penn State and started out with the death penalty and then negotiated down. I don't think baseball expects to be able to ban A-Rod for life. They're just starting their price high and then will be haggled down. However, IF (and that's a big 'if') he is banned for life for PED usage, does that make him automatically ineligible for the HOF like Pete Rose?
  17. I've seen on other websites that TJ Quinn was on ESPN news citing a source that MLB is dangling a lifetime ban over A-Rod's head. Found a video: http://espn.go.com/video/clip?id=9500303 Starts at about 1:30
  18. So is this 1 strike for Braun or 2? If he fails another test does he get hit with 100 games or a lifetime ban?
  19. I thought PED suspensions weren't publicly announced until all appeals had been exhausted.
