  1. There were no tears, my brother. It sucks that Rodgers got hurt, but there wasn't anything that really could be done about it. Enjoy your gloating. You beat Eddie Lacy and the Packers B-team. It's Erik, btw. Haven't been around in a while but it's nice to know people are still thinking about me. Told you I'd be back. This will be my last post because I know the permaban is forthcoming on this account, but I got back on the boards once. I'll do it again. See you all in a few months.
  2. McCarthy obviously stopped giving a [expletive] after Rodgers got hurt. That no-challenge call and then not using his timeouts.
  3. The only way the Packers lose this game is if it's like that game early in the 2010 season where they gave the Bears almost 200 free yards in penalties and then still only lost on a last second FG.
  4. Also he gets picked off to end World Series games. Pass.
  5. Apparently the Cardinals have inquired about Castro. The Cubs want young pitching in return and want a package centered around Shelby Miller, Tyrell Jenkins, or Carlos Martinez. The Cardinals didn't hang up. Seems odd. http://metsmerizedonline.com/2013/11/cardinals-inquired-about-shortstop-starlin-castro-cubs-want-young-pitching.html
  6. said he couldn't handle the grind anymore and told his team Saturday night that he wouldn't be back for next season. He just held a press conference announcing it. http://espn.go.com/mlb/playoffs/2013/story/_/id/9857689/detroit-tigers-manager-jim-leyland-return
  7. Yep, that's always the first thing that pops in my head. Sort-of related, I feel like a good way to test if you're dealing with a Cubs' die-hard (presuming they're old enough to have seen it) is to ask if they know who the three players in that rundown were. Random thing that only lunatics like us remember, I'm sure. best cubs gave i've ever been to. i wonder if the sportscenter video i uploaded years ago is still floating around online... I was at that game too. I think I might even still have the radio call saved somewhere. Craziest damn gave I'd ever seen. First and only time the 7th inning stretch conductor was ejected from the game, and then that final play. Holy crap.
  8. You don't remember the 3 headed catching monster of Joe Girardi, Damon Berryhill and Rick Wrona? I remember that I was 16 and wanted Wrona to start more games. Holy [expletive], he WAS part of that. Why can't I remember him?!? I have the '89 starting lineup memorized with him in it batting 8th. And I think he hit a home run once right after I told my dad he sucked. But those are my only memories of him.
  9. The hate mail stuff sucks, but he has to know that has nothing to do with why he was fired. When he brings it up after firings, it seems like he's pointing to his being black as the reason for his firing. Well, I'm sure everyone sees right through what he's saying if he says he's being fired for his race. I'd rather he say it in the offseason that during the season. I just find it curious that he never mentions the hate mail when things are going well. It's always right before he gets fired or right after.
  10. I'm not. Neither side is "right" here. MLB was overly aggressive and A-Rod is a cheating scumbag. I'm not disagreeing one bit that A-Rod is a scumbag, he is. But MLB trying to run him out and make an example out of him, with helping the Yankees out of their gigantic contract, at the same time? A-Rod is the lesser of two evils to me. I guess. It sucks that I have to root for A-Rod here, but like you said... I don't want the Yankees to get out from under that contract. I want them to have to pay every last cent of the stupid thing.

  12. Dusty Baker has unsettlingly round fingernails. I don't know why this bothers me.
  13. Modify this a bit-- I'd love Pittsburgh/Oakland.
  14. Who was the idiot in the Reds organization who said "Boy, Dusty did a bang-up job in Chicago! He'd be great for our team! I hope he brings Jose Macias and Rey Ordonez with him!"
  15. News is just breaking now. Who will replace him, and do you think the game is better or worse from his reign as commish? http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2013/09/bud-selig-to-formally-announce-retirement-today.html?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter
  16. 2 words: Dusty. Baker.
  17. It'd have been hard. I wish we had a front office willing to try hard things. Completely stripping a team down and attempting to build a perennial contender via the farm system isn't a "hard" thing?
  18. That is such a terrible opinion. I'm not really an imb fan, but I agree with him here. That's kind of how rebuilding works.
  19. As opposed to staying in New York managing the most prestigious franchise in baseball with an old core and not much in the minors on the way of relief. His future in New York would consist of constant media and fan scrutiny and the back pages of the papers calling for his job because the Yankees aren't "The Yankees".
  20. That's who I would say, along with Baez. Rizzo and Castro need to figure it out, though. We're depending on those guys as cornerstones. I have faith in Theo and Co. but if even they can't bring us to the promised land I think a lot of the fanbase is going to lose interest, and Wrigley will be what it was in the 80's when the Cubs were mostly terrible-- the world's biggest outdoor party, full of people there soley for the experience and to drink beer and look at the hot girls in bikinis, not for the team on the field.
  21. Honestly I hope they get to the WS this year. If there's one fanbase that deserves it other than us, it's the long-suffering Pirates fans. At least we've had a few winning teams and playoff appearances since 1992.
  22. How is assuring the correct outcome on the field "awful?" Have you ever watched an NFL game? Most challenges take 5 minutes and 75% of them confirm the call on the field, and they most definitely do not "assure" a correct outcome. Very few NFL challenges take 5 minutes. And if it means the correct call is on the field, whether it confirms or overturns the refs call, then as a football fan I'm ok with that. They have so few plays to review now in MLB and they've already [expletive] up a few. It's not perfect I'll admit, but the percentage of error is substantially less, and will be even less so with the expanded replay.
