  1. Of course not. It's about realizing the likely mandate of getting under the CBT threshold while being able to keep one of the best players in franchise history.
  2. Stating the obvious but these rumors are just so incredibly bizarre after everything that has (or I guess hasn't) happened lately. And somehow we're going to shed Heyward's contract in this process? I don't get it. Unless Ricketts is ok going over the tax only if it includes Arenado, which lol, that's not the case.
  3. And yet, for some reason, I'll still be really annoyed when I won't get Marquee to be able to watch this guy lead off on opening day
  4. Oh they're definitely getting under the LT this season. If it's not Bryant, it'll be Quintana for only salary relief or attaching one of the few good, cheap players with Chatwood for only (partial) salary relief. This offseason is basically a nightmare. I've been dreading a Bryant trade for a while, but I'm starting to accept it might be the best of a shitty situation to do that. Though finding the right team is hard. I think the Phillies might jump in, assuming the arbitrator does indeed make his ruling this offseason.
  5. A little more foresight by ownership/Theo would've been nice, specifically before inking those Chatwood and Kimbrel deals. Like if this isn't just about Marquee being a flop, how was this not handled better before ending up with the plan of trading Bryant.
  6. If the Braves get Donaldson, I just don't feel like a Bryant trade is possible this offseason.
  7. Looking at age, slash line, and scouting reports I get why Drew Waters is highly thought of. But my goodness is that a lot of Ks for not many dongs. I could do without him in a theoretical deal.
  8. I'll be sick either way but if Theo trades him to the Dodgers I will barf.
  9. horsefeathers the Ricketts. They are going to trade Kris horsefeathering Bryant in a competitive window in order to save money. I think that's where we're headed.
  10. Just listened to the new Athletic Cubs podcast with Brett, Sahadev, and Mooney. I think most people were already under this impression, but they very much made it sound like Contreras will be moved. A few references along the lines of "if he's still on the team by the time this podcast gets released."
  11. Here's my guess: Ross is manager Non tender Russell Pick up the Graveman option Sign Akiayama 4/30 Sign Chris Martin 2/16 Sign Strop 1/3 Sign Russell Martin 1/5 Sign Adam Jones 1/2 Trade Chatwood to the Phillies for Cesar Hernandez Trade Caratini to the Braves for Kyle Wright Trade Happ to the Padres for Matt Strahm OD Roster: Akiayma CF Bryant 3B Rizzo 1B Baez SS Schwarber LF Contreras C Heyward RF Hernandez 2B R Martin, Descalso, Bote, Kemp, Jones Hendricks, Darvish, Lester, Q, Mills Kimbrel, C Martin, Wick, Strop, Underwood, Wieck, Ryan, Strahm (Hoerner, Almora, Graveman, Wright begin the season in Iowa)
  12. I feel like there's a potential match with either the Braves or Rays involving Caratini. Both teams have extra pitching. The Braves will probably be looking for a LHH to pair with Flowers, and DArnaud is a FA so it'd be a way for the Rays to save a buck.
  13. The Rockies pitching staff is pretty thin as is and the Mets have Ramos under contract. I just don't see a lot of great matches out there, considering the trade price for good starting pitchers are always so high, and Contreras' reputation/numbers as a receiver. But who knows, it's only September, so things will look different.
  14. I fear Contreras' trade value isn't nearly as high as we want it to be. But I still voted him.
  15. For all of the criticisms the entire roster will receive when this is over - some certainty warrented - that is an insane amount of losses when leading 8th inning or later.
  16. Allow me to overreact to a couple of windy Wrigley dongs, but since Hoerner hasn't gotten to play in a juiced ball league until now, I wonder if there are more homers in there than everyone thought. He seems to have a quick bat. A 2018* Gleyber-ian homer spike would be swell. *holy horsefeathers, he has 37 this year.
  17. I really have a hard time buying the nerves stuff with him with runners in scoring position. To me that's just fans applying how they would feel in that spot and how they do feel while watching a game. I think professional athletes are wired in a way that is hard for us to understand, especially someone who has been as consistently great at all levels like Bryant. And depending on the year and exact situation, the RISP/high leverage numbers aren't even bad. I mean sure he's not technically a perfect Trout-ian player but for the love of Christ this is some legendary horsefeathers we're watching. The takes on twitter can get me a bit riled up. Also please don't trade him and please re-sign him. This isn't some sad sack small market franchise.
  18. lol the one time that pitch actually catches the plate it doesn't get called.
  19. What exactly goes through Eloy's mind in the outfield I wonder
  20. Jesus, just put an L screen in front of Nova. These outs are really annoying.
  21. Hit a horsefeathering cut. You're playing LF at PNC
  22. Nice PA by Heyward once again. I don't like Javy's chances here but I think one of our lefties will get to Iglesias
  23. Heyward's all around game has been spectacular this series
  24. I love a good shrug out from the umpire with a man on 3rd
