  1. I've been playing with the baseball savant defensive positioning graphics: https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/visuals/batter-positioning?playerId=621020&teamId=144&opponent=&firstBase=0&shift=1&season=2022&attempts=10&batSide=R&gb=1&fb=0. Regarding the big free agent SS, looks like Swanson might benefit the most from the shift rule changes. I know shifts aren't totally going away but you can see where the 2B normally plays him, and they'd have to move over. In 2022, Swanson had a .289 wOBA in 223 PA's vs a shift and a .360 wOBA in 473 PA's vs no shift. In 2021 though, his numbers weren't worse when shifted. It does look like his % shifted against was a lot higher than the other 3 SS. I just thought it was kinda interesting, as I'm trying to talk myself into liking Swanson more than I previously did since I don't see Jed doing an 8+ year deal.
  2. Mervis continuing his trend of not striking out while still doing damage, has just 3 K's in his first 36 AFL plate appearances. Compared to 4 dongs
  3. Sorry Alexander, right handed pitchers never hang breaking balls in the majors
  4. With the Abreu rumor and my doubts of Jed/Carter handing out a massive single contract, an off-season featuring Nimmo is something I've started to wonder about. I know the minor league system is heavy on outfielders but I'm still not sure how many are viewed as potential centerfielders, aside from PCA. I continue to find it interesting how often Brennen *doesn't* play CF in the minors, Canario could be a prime trade candidate (and is also a tweener), and PCA hasn't played above A ball. Also, if anyone forces the issue, Happ is a FA after next season and/or trades happen. I wonder if an off-season like this is in the works: Abreu 2/30 Nimmo 5/120 Senga 4/72 Smyly 2/15 Narvaez 2/10 Something like Canario to the Pads for Eguy Rosario for infield depth 2-3 bullpen signings Position players: C- Narvaez/Gomes 1B/DH - Abreu 1B/DH - Mervis 2B - Madrigal/Morel SS - Nico 3B - Wisdom/Morel LF - Happ CF - Nimmo RF - Suzuki Rosario in AAA Rotation: Stroman Steele Senga Smyly Hendricks Wesneski Sampson Alzolay and Thompson as relief aces
  5. It's not useful to read too much into his comments, but after listening to the entire thing, that did not sound like a guy planning on spending 250M on a single player. Like at all.
  6. The ole 1 AB breather
  7. That starting payroll is a little higher than I had in my head; I'm fine removing Kiermaier and hoping the collection of outfield prospects can produce in CF
  8. My 2023 plan that seems possible: To start, I think with the way he's hit recently, being right-handed, and can't play defense, Reyes is back in the non-tendered zone. Additionally, I think Morel would benefit from starting the year in AAA to work on offense obviously, and infield defense. I'd also consider going with a 6 man rotation in the beginning to try to keep everyone healthy which was an issue this year and to help with Senga's transition (is it still a thing in the NPB that those pitchers pitch once a week?). Signings: Omar Narvaez Kiermaier Correa Kodai Senga Re-sign (or pickup that mysterious option) Smyly A few Bullpen guys Trade for Ji Man Choi Main Position players C Narvaez/Gomes 1B Wisdom/Choi 2B Madrigal/McKinstry/Bote (with the hope of Morel eventually) SS Nico 3B Correa LF Happ CF Kiermaier RF Suzuki DH Mervis SP Stroman Steele Senga Smyly Hendricks Sampson or Wesneski Bullpen Thompson Alzolay Hughes Leiter Wick? Other guys
  9. Please keep Keegan in the bullpen. I love him there.
  10. Enough already with the horsefeathers strikes on Suzuki. Goodness. The body far off the plate with arms extended is really messing with these umps, and for Seiya's sake I hope the robots are coming soon
  11. OK nevermind, looks like we will still need to spend a good amount of money on the pen next year (though Thompson and Alzolay will hopefully help)
  12. That slider, when executed, is really something else.
  13. I still really want at least 2 starters. Keegan has a 4.80 ERA as a starter and can be a real weapon in the pen, you can't count on Hendricks, and I think Killian might be a little broken. Wesneski is interesting, but he can hang out at AAA to start the season. Personally, I am a little more optimistic on some of the position players. Get a difference-maker on the infield and good defense at C in CF (which shouldn't be that expensive) and I think it's fine. And we have the 2023 ROY at 1B.
  14. I think so. And since Reyes has looked pretty good, it probably makes it less likely they sign a bat only 1B to push Mervis to DH.
  15. Nice crew chief back there
  16. Man that Yelich contract is a wonderful albatross. Stearns is really good but he's got his work cut out for him once these pitchers get expensive
  17. Not that the trade would be about getting Hosmer if it happened, but I do wonder if he could be sneaky useful in a world with no shifting.
  18. I think this is the 4th straight game with no PCA
  19. When did Alex Cobb turn into Ohtani? I thought he was washed a few years ago but this is like the nastiest stuff I've seen from a SP this year
  20. 100 mph with a side of yips
  21. If we trade Happ for a package led by a single A pitcher, I will be disappointed and I'll try to convince myself we must have a handshake deal with Conforto or something
  22. Regarding the Rays and Happ, it feels like Mead and Bradley have been too good for the Rays to trade, and seemingly almost all of their other top prospects have disappointed this season?
  23. Well that tweet gets my attention. That would also be too much for half a season of Benintendi.
  24. Nelly starting to look like someone who could be penciled in as a good 4th outfielder/destroyer of LHP for next season
