  1. The Cards are in a near panic, repeatedly losing to sub .500 teams by a run or 2. Tonite Furcal loses his leadoff job to the redoubtable Schumacher, and the power swinging Craig bats 2nd. Berkman lowered due to his all around futility with the bat AND glove. The Cards' rookie manager is under much scrutiny and really wants this game. Will this be the last RD start for Chicago?
  2. Got my first look at Adams....very reminiscent of Greg Luginski...a dump truck of a man. A play at the plate on him would be scary.
  3. Berkman's replacement, the torrid AAA hitter Matt Adams is reported to be quite the fastball hitter. Had a couple of base knocks in his debut last nite.
  4. Torn ACL. Cards were swept by the only .500 teams they faced last week. Beltran is hobbled. Jay on the DL. "Reief" pitching in the toilet. Allan Craig injured again. Wainwrong totally ineffective. Carpenter still out. Matt Holliday and Beltran making every catch an adventure. Freese has froze...BA down .150 points in last 2 weeks. Wore the golden sombrero last nite, K'ing 4 times on pitches at eye level. Matheny is over managing ala' LaRussa. Did I miss anything?
  5. Matheny was going to sit Freese today, but something made him change his mind. I could not get a bet down on this game...my landlord acually thinks the Cubs will sweep. (I even offered him even money!) :( Now Cubs get ahead early
  6. Hard to predict the outcome of this game. They just got swept by the Braves, so what does THAT mean? I don't know. I will not be wagering tonite. [-X
  7. Why the sarcasm? I'm not Peter Gamons. Just yakkin' on a forum. I get that you NSBB old timers don't like rookies, or speculating on the possibility that something GOOD could happen. I'll try to be more negative in the future. He's saying there's a designated forum to discuss Cubs games and series so that people don't clutter up the rest of the message board with discussion about those games or series. You know, since there's an entire board dedicated to it and all. Is that what he's saying? You could have fooled me. And sorry, I see none of this "clutter" you speak of. Just tell me where to post speculation on an upcoming series and I will be happy to go there.

  9. Oh!!! (spoken like Dice Clay) Can't agree with you on the Blanton game...we win that one.
  10. The best team in the NL over the last 3 years, it looks like they have fallen back to earth. The hitting has been weak and the defense a tad spotty. Pierre is hitting good, and the always tough H. Pence leads in team RBI & HR. After them, it's not so fearful. Halliday goes in the 1st game, but it gets easier after that. Coming off the Cards series sucess I see the guys going out there with some REAL enthusiasm. I look for a close series, very close.
  11. [-X Would you settle for a spot in the playoffs? (one kidney tops) No more wagering for me until I see a "lock"....howerver, if you can get odds I would suggest you pick the Cubs again tonite. Don't look now, but the lineup is better than the WS champs. Lynn may shut us down, but for now the Cards offense is shut down regardless. Cubs win 2 to 1 8-) (why change the runs?)
  12. Yeah, yeah I know. The eternal pessimism of the true blue Cub fan. I only made 4 or 5 baseball bets all last year. Won them all. All with my landlord who is not so much of a Card fan, just a Cub hater. I mean HATER. He gave me 2 to 1 and I can't pass that up. We bet 1/2 the rent, and I cannot afford to lose! Cubs win 6-3 :beg: Congratulations. Must have been a rough night. You have no idea.
  13. Whew...I thought we had blown it for sure last night. We got a little help from the umps, and Matheny, and an angel in the infield. Now if the boys don't go in with the mindset "we won the series", a sweep might be swung. I will however, not be wagering.
  14. I have a sinking feeling that this will be a reversal of last nites game .... am I crazy?
  15. This may be the easiest Cub win vs. Cards/Brews/Reds we have all year...enjoy. \:D/

  17. But there's more: Boggs and Motte won't be available either...the 2nd string will have to relieve AW who even if effective(unlikely) will be on a pitch count....I'm guessing between 70 to 80. Cubs are a 3 to 2 favorite. Only the 2nd time this year the Cards are dogs (Greinke the other) I'm calling it: Cubs win 6-3
  18. He is being boo'd unmeciflully by the Boston fans every time he takes the field. They were particularly virulent during that 9-0, in the 6th but coughed up the lead to the YANKEES game! Heading back to the dugout he had the balls to tip his cap and smile to the crowd.
  19. Brewers Braves Pirates Phillies Mets cubs Astros Phillies Brewers Rangers Marlins Brewers Reds cubs Reds Pirates Do you know what this list represents? It's the Cardinals last 16 series, all won.... 16 strait w/o a loss. They are well aware of this fact and dam sure don't want to lose tonite. But that won't be easy with Wainwright and his deminished stuff. I got a big kick out of seeing the guys celebrate last nite. Mather's GWH was the only play Sportcenter showed of the game, then the celebration. I'm sure the Cubs are ready to win a series, and all things point to tonite. I won't go as far as to say it's a MUST win, but with Berkman and Jay out, Holliday not hitting his weight, Beltran in a mini-funk unable to hit breaking stuff and Freese gently floating back to earth and AW starting, it is definately DOABLE.
  20. I hate to wax optimistic, but with the not -yet-ready-for-primetime Wainwright going tomorro, a series win is VERY likely.
  21. Hell of a 12 pitch AB vs. the hard throwing Motte
  22. Thanks. You can call me Tim if you want a shorter name. I've been a long distance fan of the Cards since the 60s. Most times when I go to a game I wind up talking to fans of the opposing team. I usually learn something from the experience. So I thought I'd try it here as well. Not much of a crowd here tonite, unlike Wrigley. BTW...it appears that your Boy Freese has begun to come back down to earth. He had one hell of a run for a while.
  23. Furcal continues the shakey D....but now the DP :-&
