  1. That's it. You guys win. Most of you seem to be completely adverse to anyone that doesn't fit your mindset. It's true that I'm not a dyed in the wool Cub fan like the bitter ilk here and I don't belong. Really? If everyone doesn't agree with you, then everyone is against you? oooook. It wasn't that. Different points of view make a topic interesting. But rather than my views this bunch prefers to discuss ME...in a sniping way. Even the MOD that locked one of my threads because it was in the wrong place did not bother to put it in the right place or even explain anything. When I questioned him his reply was condescending and not in the least bit conciliatory.
  2. I appreciate your support David, but you are in the minority here. BTW, my landlord has cut me off. Since we won that last series vs. the Cardinals not only won't the old fart not bet, he raised my rent.

  4. If you're talking about the trade, then yes, of course it changes things....you seem pleased Derwood.
  5. What do you think now? lol I don't understand. Am I missing something?
  6. When I suggested that the Cubs could still be in the WC race in September I was met with the usual NSBB negativity. What say yea now? SF Giants. 47 38 - Natinals... 46 38 - St. Louis.. 46 40 1 Pittsburgh 44 41 2½ Cincinnati 43 41 3 Miami..... 41 44 5½ Padres.... 38 47 8½ Cubbies... 37 46 8½ N.Y. Mets. 37 48 9½ Does anyone think the Fish and Pads are better than us? Looks like we will gain ground today. Beating Nats as I type, Brews/Reds play each other and the Cards/Fish do as well. ;)
  7. I don't and haven't understood the joy of losing to get high draft picks. It's seems weird to me. That's what I'm talking about! :good:
  8. Great drafts, excellent player development and wise FA spending can only keep you a contender for so long. Well, the pixie dust has worn off a bit and they've stopped hitting better than anyone in the history of ever with RISP, they've got 3 of 6 starters on the shelf right now and a bit of a depleted pen because of some recent short outings by the guys who are healthy, so yeah, you're pretty much right. It's 4 of 6 sidelined. Lynn will miss a start or two with a nasty blister on the middle finger. Wainwright is operating on cortisone shots in the elbow. That leaves Shelby Miller, the #5 starter as the only completely healthy arm and he is being treated like a rented mule by the hitters. Ain't won a game in a while. The kid brought up to replace Wacha from AA was rocked for 5 and 4 earned runs in his two starts, ERA over 9.00 (Marco Gonzalez) The bullpen has held the games close but the Cards never win when behind after 6. They are something like 1-28 in that regard. In short, the season is over for them in regard to having a post season. If we beat 'em when we meet 'em we will catch 'em.
  9. Maybe last, but by far the best last place team in the MLB. I would like to see San Diego or Arizona try to play close to .500 in the NL Central! It's the toughest neighborhood in town. Even teams like Toronto and SF would be battling for 2nd or 3rd place around here. As far as the draft situation goes, I don't give a rat's ass about it. You know how many #1 picks bust out, and how many 29th's become gold? It's a crap shoot. You do it with your farm system and key free agent acquisitions. And of course, NOT losing your blue chip players to same. A) Crap shoot is an overused term that doesn't really do justice to the situation. B) If you believe you do it from your farm system then you should give more than a rat's ass about the draft situation. It's not what you start with in the farm system but what you DO with it. A team has to decide a particular direction to go in and make moves accordingly. The Cubs for the last few DECADES don't seem to have that figured out. But maybe now?

  11. I say yes. So who finishes last? The Cardinals. There's a good chance they finish under .500, and we've got 3 months to close the gap. Very doable.
  12. From the '55 Dodgers, along with Lasorda, Don Newcombe and Sandy Koufax are still above ground, and '57/'58 Braves' pennant winners' Red Sheondienst is still around, hitting fungo's for the Cardinals at 92 There's probably some more, but that's all I can think of.
  13. How cool would it be if we beat the guy tonite? :clapping:
  14. I'm starting to get the picture....when I say something encouraging I'm ignored. When I complain about something I get sniped at. I'm kinda slow on the uptake. It's your club and you don't want any more members. Take it easy.
  15. Go figure, you show up when the Cubs are in the process of getting swept in a DH. What's that got to do with anything?
  16. It's hard enough to score runs w/o giving an out away BUNTING! When will they realize :banghead: we're in the live ball era?!!
  17. Buck up Boys. Lotta game left. This is an unexpected treat to have a game on MLB. (Thanks Yanks) Don't look now but a real rally is brewing. :good:
  18. Scoring 3 runs on Wacha in 7 is a mean feat....this game was winnable.
  19. Great use of $11,000,000.00. 11 mil? That's hard to fathom
  20. They call Matt Adams "Big City" because he's big, and comes from the city. (duh)
