  1. lunatic / tuna fish Don't go around tonight Well, it's bound to take your life There's a bathroom on the right Thanks Bob. I thought more people would know that joke. It's like that ole Jimi Hendrix line- "Excuse me while I kiss this guy" or Billy Idol's "Hows about a date" instead of "eyes without a face". Weren't these all part of a Wayne's World episode from SNL? Sounds about right. There's long running jokes about Springsteen's "Blinded By the Light".

  3. I like Detroit and I'm one of the ones that likes the move. I don't think I'm fawning, but Detroit is a team that's had specific needs the past 5 off-seasons and they have addressed them. Maybe not perfectly, but they have addressed them. When I see the Tigers' moves the past 5 years I see - bringing in a big name to show they are players in the free agent market (Pudge), bring in an impact bat (Maggs) draft almost MLB ready pitchers and pay them ML contracts (Verlander, Miller, and the new guy that was going to N.C.) addressing OBP (Shef), getting a shortstop so they could move Guillen to 1B (Edgar). They have been criticized for nearly every one of these moves, yet they've gone from the worst team in the majors to one of the best in the past 5 years. Maggs, Pudge, Shef, and now Edgar all have some serious negatives and all cost a lot in the way of money and or prospects, but at least I see a team that targets specific problems and tries to fix them instead of what I see in the Cubs sometimes- getting redundant players and overpaying for no names. Anyway, not trying to argue to just argue, but I like the move.
  4. It just may be a tuna fish you're lookin' for.
  5. Did you just name drop Billy Joe Tolliver? My god, that would have ended the name dropping thread if it were on the first page. Nice work. BTW, what in god's name do you think Billy Joe and AROD talk about when they hang out? Pretty soon, someone's going to tell me that Jon Kitna and Carl Everett are going to church together. Absolutely - I did. Thanks for catching that. I heard Billy Joe is a phenomenal golfer.
  6. Dick Vitale, who's also chummy with A-Rod, predicts the Cubs. I don't know if that means doo doo, but he said it.
  7. badnews, you make good points. Not disagreeing with most of your post, just nitpicking a little. One thing I'd counter with is that while the Tigers have given up young talent over the past two years for Sheffield and now Renteria, that young talent is so iffy to ever pan out anyway and Detroit is clearly in a win now mode. Humberto Sanchez, for example, underwent Tommy John surgery earlier this year. Who knows if he'll ever even pitch in MLB. Anyway, I like the Tigers and I'm not upset with dealing some young guys, even if what's coming back isn't the greatest. They addressed a need and Edgar's offense over Sean Casey (who he's essentially replacing in the lineup) is probably worth a couple of wins over the course of the year. With Detroit as close as they were this year, a couple of wins could be huge.
  8. http://www.dailyherald.com/story/?id=66785&src=152 As usual, Bruce Miles has an article that actually contains quotes from Hendry to let us know where they may be headed this off-season. A power hitting lefty right fielder. Hmm. I wonder if any of those may be available via trade...
  9. http://www.suntimes.com/sports/baseball/cubs/626181,CST-SPT-cub30.article Suntimes says they might go after him.
  10. http://www.rotoworld.com/Content/playernews.aspx?sport=MLB I would think that the trade would effectively put them out of the A-Rod sweapstakes, if they were ever in it to begin with. Watch out for Detriot next year. I agree. With the good young pitching, Edgar makes the offense better and if they avoid injuries (which they didn't do this year and are not guaranteed to miss next year because some guys are old) they will be tought. Of course, the problem is their division. It'll probably take 95 wins to get it.
  11. http://detroit.tigers.mlb.com/news/press_releases/press_release.jsp?ymd=20071029&content_id=2287275&vkey=pr_det&fext=.jsp&c_id=det Good deal for Detroit, in my opinion. They could certainly upgrade the offense at third, but they like Inge's defense. This lets Guillen move to first, keeping him healthier, probably. Pretty much replace Sean Casey with Edgar. Not bad.
  12. A friend overheard this on the radio. Don't know who Detroit gave up yet.
  13. I think as Luis' leg problems keep popping up, he's going to get worse and worse.
  14. Hopefully the Cubs will contend for several years to come and we can add postseason to that list!
  15. I have in my possesion a list of some 250 members of this community who have wittingly or unwittingly posted in a secret forum.
  16. Speaking of Johnny Damon, if you saw this guy take BP and try to throw a baseball with authority, you'd probably pick him last if you were playing a pickup game.
  17. I'll take analbumcover for 200, Trebek.
  18. I forgot to say that Big Stein should probably fire Cashman and bring in Steve Phillips.
  19. Is David Eckstein available? With his laser-rocket arm, he should be able to shift over to third. Get Podsednik and there's your one-two hitters for New York in 2008.
  20. That's not even a real number. According to Scott Boras it is the going rate for those two.
  21. The Yankees' decisions in the next couple of months will impact all of baseball. Some of these have been discussed elsewhere, but I thought this could be a good thread to discuss what the Yankees should do as a sort of off-season plan. First, they need to get rid of Torre. All that money and talent and trips to the playoffs- he obviously can't get it done. Some say they should hire Larussa, but I think they should go for Dusty Baker. It's really the world against the Yankees, so who better to have than Dusty? Remember how he fought so hard against all the negativity from the press when he was at Chicago? AND, the Yankees walk a lot. They need more hitting, less walking. Therefore, Dusty. They must let A-Rod walk. He's just not a postseason player. Let some stupid team like the Cubs sign him. Convince Clemens to pitch all year next year. They need pitching and the Rocket could solidify the rotation. Sign Andruw Jones or Torre Hunter for centerfield for eleventy billion dollars. I think these moves are somewhat realistic and what I in some ways would like to see them do.
  22. Once again, I'll be a hero to my father-in-law. 2 tickets to the second game. Now they just gotta get there.
  23. But only if we showcase all our best posters, so to lure people in. It's o.k., I know I'll have the weekend off.
  24. Probably not. But hey, at least they overpayed for a good player this time!
