    This victory was already impressive, but with the severity following the weekend it makes what he was dealing with even more so.

    i don't mean to call bull but wouldn't one remember a score they shot at a us open course? rather than just say low 80's? Like jersey said, it wasn't a US Open course then, although they did play the Buick Invitational there at the time, as they do now. And, it was 12 years ago. And, the rough was about 6 inches lower.

    I played Torrey Pines about 12 years ago and shot low 80s. However, that was from the whites and the rough was about 6 inches lower.

    I think the Detroit Free Press was suggesting the Tigers would take Cashner at 21.

    I think that's a good question. I've read a couple of places where wrist injuries heal, but power comes back more slowly (Derrek Lee, etc.) Maybe that's part of it with Fukudome.

    Who is John Lowe, the person he mentions at the end? I think he writes for the Free Press. Leyland was saying reporters don't blame fellow employees if they write a bad article, and I bet he was there- I think that's why they were laughing at the end.

    I read on detroittigers.com that the reference to players saying the expectations going into the season where a burden was likely a reference to Carlos Guillen, who said it was 'unfair' or something like that.

    That is fantastic. Leyland just throwing those guys under the bus. Fantastic. I think him and Inge have a Piniella vs. Dibble fight in their near future. Good times! Throwing them under the bus, or calling them out?

    One more would be a streak. The chemistry stuff is crap, imo. But the attitude argument might hold some water. I do find it odd that Cabrera was sleeping rather than watching film of a pitcher he'd never faced that's as good as Haren is. I thought going to a winning atmosphere was going to bring new life to the kid. Well, that Butch in Pulp Fiction was asleep before a big boxing match and killed the guy. I'm just sayin'.

    That's pretty awesome. Seems like maybe 'ole Brandon Inge may have been the target of some of that. I get it for sure that Grilli was!

    I think that just as winning breeds good team chemistry, playing crappy breeds pissed off players and believe it or not, players getting really frustrated. Ole Brandon Inge bitched a bit this spring about losing his spot at third and having to catch some guys, even though he would probably be the best help to his team getting ready to play catcher full time starting next year. He may earn his salary a little better that way!

    I scoff, right along with Leland. Winning makes chemistry, not guys like Jason Grilli and Sean Casey. Casey was known as "the Mayor" around the Reds clubhouse and didn't ever chemistry them from a lousy team to a great team. Of course, he had anti-chemistry Griffey on his team, so who knows. After that article, the Free Press had a spot for comments and some dork said that it was all the Latin players taking their money and not caring about performance. Give me a break.

    You have got to be kidding me. I saw the highlight of the Dunn homer, but I didn't know he tried to bunt beforehand. How the hell do you bunt a guy that hits 40 home runs every year. (That was rhetorical, by the way)

    No, that was Dusty. He doesn't want to admit he's pulled that boneheaded maneuver off twice. Well, that's what I thought. Sportscenter quoted him as saying he'd only seen that happen when he was a player. Wonder if he'll get called on that anywhere but here? :twisted:

    Anybody see the Reds bat out of order yesterday? Dusty had doubleswitched himself into confusion. He said he'd only seen that as a player, but I swear I think I remember him doing that while managing the Cubs. Maybe it was the interim guy that did it though.

    If there was still doubt about Jeter's HOF worthiness, I'd say those have been dispelled with this statistic.

    He has a veteran team that he didn't help assemble. Dusty's deteriorating impact won't be felt until next year, or the year after. He can't change the approach of veterans like Dunn, Griffey, or Hatteberg (I haven't looked it up but surely these three are near the top for the team). His impact is on the youth. From the few games I've seen you're right, those are the usuals suspects drawing walks for the Reds. And Cueto's unwordly 18-0 k to bb ratio helps this smallish sample size on the pitching side.
