    BA on Carlos Rodriguez "Rodriguez, who turned 16 on July 18, signed with the Cubs for $120,000 in August. Rodriguez isn't tall but he has a strong 5-foot-11, 180-pound frame and stands out for his feel for pitching. Scouts praise his competitiveness and ability to pitch to both sides of the plate with his high-80s fastball, which he backs up with a good changeup for his age and a curveball that reaches the mid-70s that he can throw for strikes, although at times he tends to get around the ball. Rodriguez doesn't have the cleanest delivery, as he throws across his body and he finishes with a head jerk, though it hasn't hampered his ability to hit his spots yet." My guess is his fastball could sit 90-92 once he gets bigger and matures a bit.

    The same Josh Vitters who has 11 homers in 250 at bats at AAA? That guy? Yeah, the same Josh Vitters who has no plate discipline, 12 errors and up until last night hasn't posted an OPS of 800 or better since his stint in Peoria. Yep, that guy.

    While I'm excited about Baez, Josh Vitters had 15 Hr's in like 250 AB's in the Midwest league. So I wouldn't put too much into A ball statistics.

    I've always felt Vitters has a higher ceiling than Jackson, but as others have mentioned, Jackson walks and plays defense. Vitters really doesn't do either, which could hold him back from being more than an average player. Also Vitters power, while solid, isn't what I thought it would be when the Cubs drafted him. I'm not sure he has 30 HR power at the major league level

    What Cub prospects, if any, have the best chance to make this years game? I would say Baez, but I'm not sure if he's had enough AB's or played in enough games to qualify.

    I would be really tempted to give Almora slot, and if he doesn't accept, walk away and bank the pick for next year. I really really like Almora, but having two top 10 picks next year would be pretty awesome.

    Goldstein was on the score the other day and said that talks with Almora will start with the number 4 (meaning 4 million, obviously) Also, I think we could sign Johnson for less than slot. Pitcher with a history of arm troubles, college junior.

    One negative about Baez right now is that he has a lot of Josh Vitters in him as far as his approach to hitting. According to gameday, in three of his AB's he only saw one pitch. Obviously not a problem if he's getting hits, but at the higher levels that might become a bad habit to develop.

    BA #72 Iowa -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "An Iowa native who moved to Alabama with his mother as a high school junior, Rash returned to Iowa for his senior season and is the state's best prospect since Jeremy Hellickson pitched at Des Moines' Hoover High in 2005. He'll go higher than Hellickson (fourth round) if a team believes it can sign him away from his commitment to Missouri and get him to control his electric stuff. Long and lean at 6-foot-5 and 195 pounds, Rash throws a 91-93 mph fastball that hits 95 and features heavy life, and he'll push his hard slider up to 83 mph. He is a quality athlete who also starred in football and basketball, but he is still learning to repeat his delivery. His arm is so fast that it gets ahead of the rest of his body, resulting in scattershot control. Scouts grade his present command as a 30 or 40 on the 20-80 scale, and his development will require patience. Rash's upside could drive him up to the second round, but his rawness and his signability mean he might fall significantly as well. "

    Pretty meh Not exactly a high ceiling, has had arm problems. Not terrible but I was hoping for Weickel or Buttrey

    Jon Mayos latest Mock 6. Chicago Cubs: Albert Almora, OF, Mater Academy (Fla.) The talk remains around three: Almora, a toolsy outfielder, Correa, a high school shortstop, and Fried, a prep left-hander I would be very happy with either of those three, my preference would be (in order) 1. Almora 2. Fried 3. Correa I really like Almora, and I like Fried because of his practicability and our system lacks a true high ceiling pitching prospect.

    Hmm...interesting, I'll be very surprised if he's still on the board at 6.

    Zunino just isn't the guy I want at 6. Not saying he's a bad player or anything crazy like that, I just want a huge upside type of talent at 6. I just don't see that in Zunino as much as others
