  1. From SOSH That's a horribly written sentence. I kind of figured that the decision to let Francona go was on Henry and Lucchino. Haha yeah don't shoot the messenger. I didn't write it. However, if it's not Ryno, it has to be Tito right?
  2. I never thought of this as much of a chance for us. Now that we have Theo, things change. Look at the way he went after Daisuke! He could make the same sort of play for Yu Darvish. I'd be all for it. I think CJ Wilson re-signs in Texas, and that leaves the existing market looking very bare for starting pitching.
  3. Post of the day! I did the same thing. Already called in sick and downed a 6-pack of Gumballhead. Happy Theo Day! Cheers brother. Best beer on the planet. So fortunate to live in Indiana. I'll be making another trip to the brewery this weekend on my way into Chicago for the Blackhawks game on the 15th and the Vikings / Bears game on the 16th.
  4. It's official! Red Sox and Francona part ways.
  5. Official: Francona, Red Sox split By: Gordon Edes ESPNBoston.com http://espn.go.com/boston/mlb/story/_/id/7040260/terry-francona-boston-red-sox-part-ways-two-titles
  6. So glad that the BoSox just got eliminated. I'm praying for Theo Epstein! C'mon Ricketts, get it done!
  7. Hawk was the worst GM in the history of baseball. He has no credibility on this subject.
  8. Hey guys. I just left a big memorabilia shop here in Indianapolis. And I am still in awe. That place was awesome. They had great Cubs stuff everywhere. I sat in there and browsed for over 2 hours. I even decided to start my first Cubs collection (Starlin Castro) to go with my big Adrian Peterson collection. They just got some autographed game used batting gloves from his rookie year (inscribed 2010) with incredible signs of game use. I couldn't resist. I was wondering if any of you guys had Cubs memorabilia collections. I would love to see them! Post pics here if you got them. Ill attach photos of my new gloves. Apologies if this is the wrong forum, but it seemed fitting to put under Cubs discussions, even though it's not completely game related. http://img717.imageshack.us/img717/5803/castrohx.jpg
  9. CHICAGO -- Chicago Cubs chairman Tom Ricketts made the unconventional move this week of giving a new four-year contract to the team's vice president of player personnel, Oneri Fleita, without having a general manager in place, sources told ESPNChicago.com on Saturday.
  10. How is that even an option? This is not the time to get cute. We aren't the Oakland A's for christ sakes. We will lose half the fan-base if he pulls those shenanigans. Would a big name GM even look at this job if he thought that Ricketts didn't want to spend money?
  11. You can't get them all right. Especially under the pressure to compete with the Yankees for free agents. AJ Burnett may have the worst contract of all-time, but I would still love to have Cashman over just about anyone else (Everyone except Epstein). When the offseason comes around, we will envy Adrian Gonzalez's 7 year / 154 million dollar deal when it will take us at least $200 million to get Prince Fielder. $200M for Fielder? Out. Not saying that he is worth $200 million. But that's what he's gonna get. Whether it's from us for the Orioles. Boras is using the contracts of Texiera and Mauer as starting points.

  13. I have a chubby. Olney keeps dropping names of proven, stathead GMs for the job. I'm really excited to see who the Cubs get. Also just tweeted that. I'm very excited as well!

  15. Overly educated? What the hell does that mean? More anti-intellectual garbage from "baseball men"? I'd hope that a GM of our team held an advanced degree or at least a bachelor's degree (in finance, business, economics, etc.) from a top tier university. I'd hope so too! And Hahn definitely qualifies. Hahn is a graduate of the University of Michigan, Harvard Law School and Kellogg Graduate School of Management (Northwestern University). You can't really have a more impressive education than that.
  16. Maybe some of the older guys around here can enlighten me to what is bad about Ned Colletti. All I know is what I've read, or seen him do with the Dodgers and Giants. I wasn't even born yet when he was last with the Cubs. Given his experience and Chicago / Cubs ties, I just thought he would be a solid back-up plan if we can't land one of the big dogs. But the more research I've done, the more comparisons I've seen to Jim Hendry. Or hearing "cut from the same cloth as Hendry", which totally killed that idea for me. I don't want somebody that will be anything like Jim Hendry.
  17. Couldn't agree more with this. The top 4 plus Cherington would be the perfect list. Or Ned Colleti if we could get him back. I love that Ricketts model for the team is after the Red Sox. I personally think that Theo Epstein in the best GM in baseball. I really want an experienced guy, but I wouldn't be upset with Kahn or Cherington. You had me until Ned Coletti, who I don't even want using the troughs. Coletti would definitely be at the bottom of my list with Byrnes. I just like him as a back-up option because of his experience. But he might be a little too similar to Jim Hendry for me. And I like that we are looking at younger guys. My short list would be : 1. Cashman 2. Friedman 3. Hahn I'd be really happy with any of the 3. Cherington, Byrnes, and Colleti would be decent back-up options. But I really won't be happy unless we land one of those guys on my short list.

  19. +1! Who all are your favorites for the job? Personally I like most of the options. But Cashman would be awesome. Can't go wrong with Friedman or Hahn either.
  20. http://articles.chicagotribune.com/2011-08-20/sports/ct-spt-0821-next-gm-cubs-future-chica20110821_1_tom-ricketts-white-sox-assistant-gm-rick-hahn
  21. since you're buddy-buddy with him maybe you could ask him how john gibbons is doing as manager of the pirates this year. Never said we were buddy buddy lol. Just stating that he is more plugged in than anyone. Anyone can be fed bad information. He is right 99.9% of the time. Not to mention that the other big name reporters are shaky at best.
  22. yeah, weren't people bitching after last year's draft and every time we didn't sign an expensive international free agent that ricketts' talk about investing in the farm system was just lip service? well, the cubs are going to be one of the top spenders in the draft this year and signed a bunch of cubans (who don't appear to be any good, mind you) and i believe spent 7 figures on a pair of players from the dominican and venezuela. so maybe we shouldn't flip out and start whining every time someone who may not know anything sends out a tweet. LOL? Buster Olney doesn't know anything? Really? That's like saying Adam Schefter doesn't have any NFL credibility. C'mon man. I know it's Twitter. But that doesn't change the fact that Buster Olney is arguably the most knowledgeable baseball source out there.
  23. Did they ever think that? It seemed like most fans, here or in general, wanted Cuban to buy the team. I know I did. Maybe I just remember the haters (I hate that term, but can't think of a better one). I remember lots of bad-mouthing. Saying he was a punk, etc.. I was very disappointed about him missing out on the team. However, I was very optimistic about the Ricketts. I'm no longer optimistic. They are very clueless. There is nothing more detrimental to a professional franchise than bad owners. And we could be in for a long wait at this pace. But I guess that's what us Cubs fans do best.
  24. +1 Do Cubs fans still think Mark Cuban would have been a bad thing for this franchise? At least he is passionate and does everything he can do to make his team a contender. The Ricketts are cheap, clueless, and worst of all...content of Jim Hendry. This team makes me sick to my stomach.
