  1. I disagree 100%. We have much stronger pitching and a MUCH better bullpen. Offense hits slumps so do bullpens. i agree the reds will fall from grace. but i think the cubs are likely to fall from grace too, they've had a lot of good luck so far.
  2. I totally didn't didn't notice that error until now.
  3. Slugging % is overrated. Give me 100+ RBIs a year, and we are good. He is on a pace for 122 RBIs this season. At least you didn't look around for SABR geeks before you said it.
  4. LEN KASPER, CRISP AS EVER IN THE BROADCAST BOOTH
  5. DA DEMPSTER IS UNSTOPPABLE
  6. How do you know that bringing him up now would hurt his development? Sure, some players are hurt by being brought along too quickly (i.e. Patterson perhaps). Others, however, are not (i.e. Cabrera). I happen to feel that its worth a shot on Pie since I believe he's clearly better than 2/3 of our current OF. I don't think it will hurt him. I don't know if it would hurt his development. It's a risk not worth taking though, especially when people have overrated his minor league numbers. I'm not 100% sold on him immediately being a productive major league outfielder.
  7. That's great, though I never said Juan Pierre has amazing plate discipline. I'd rather keep Pierre this year and let Pie develop another year in AAA than to bring Pie up and rush him when he isn't ready.
  8. Over the course of a full season, I'm not convinced he would. Pie has good tools, but his minor league numbers, while good, aren't amazing, and certainly not worth rushing him to the majors over. Especially when he really needs to work on his plate discipline.
  9. Juan Pierre. The Cubs shouldn't be rushing Pie to the majors. Next season? I'm open for Pie suggestions.

  11. It's a little early to project stats out toa full season, though I'm sure he'll come close to the modern era stolen base mark. Oh hell no. You cant have it both ways. Either the sample size is too small (in which case everyone needs to shut up) or the projections are legit. Dont play both sides of the fence, it is uncool. What the hell are you talking about? The argument is that no one is impressed with Juan Pierre so far. No one is saying they expect Pierre to put up a sub-300 OBP the whole season. But with his crappy season last year, this start isn't giving anyone any hope for a very productive season. There is a difference.

  13. the cubs are just as likely to fall from grace from their ultra hot start as the reds are.
  14. JACQUE JONES SHOULD BE PLAY EVERYDAY BECAUSE MABRY Sox IN RIGHT FIELD! is that the idea?
  15. Since when do you get rid of your good defensive players late in games?
  16. Over 162 games that's an awful lot more. Cubs leadoff spot, 2005: .299 OBP Juan Pierre, 2006: .284 OBP So you're comparing production from 19 games this year to 162 games last year? Chris Shelton must be one of the the best homerun hitters ever. Look out Ruth and Aaron. TT isn't the one who said that Pierre's current OBP over 162 games means a lot more plate appearances with runners on than last season.
  17. I guess I can't quite make the connection. How many RBI's would Lee and Ramirez have had last year with a mediocre leadoff man? I think you'd agree many more. I think the 2, 3 and 4 hitters we put out there have the ability to do more with Pierre getting on base than he had in Florida. Pierre getting on base will help those guys and their ability to come through with runners on will help Pierre. As I mentioned before, Lee made the analogy before the season that Pierre will have the same impact that Podsednik did for the Sox last year. His energy, speed and ability to get on base provides a spark and catalyst for the rest of the lineup to feed off of. But Pierre didn't get on base all that much. While his OBP was superior to Patterson's, I dont think it would amount to that many more RBI for Lee. As for the Scott Podsednik comparison, let's just say I disagree with the impact he had...unless he somehow helped the Sox get amazing pitching performances last season.
  18. Booing Jacque relentlessly but letting Aramis slide is stupid. I'm not saying you personally do it Rocket, but there are thousands of fans that do it at the stadium every day. Well I personally think booing any player at Wrigley is stupid, but I've been in that debate before already. I'm not thrilled about Aramis' slow start, but I'm pretty confident that when all is said and done, he will have a 900+ OPS and he'll be a very productive player for the Cubs. I don't have that same confidence in Pierre or Jones.
  19. I guess I can't quite make the connection.
  20. I love it when people get to arbitrarily choose what constitutes a real fan and a so-called fan. Get over yourself people. No one who posts on this board is any better/worse a fan than anyone else on this board. It doesn't matter what players you like, what your thoughts on stats are, how important you think team chemistry is, what players you boo, what players you cheer, or anything. We're all equals. Saying someone is not a real fan because they don't look at the game the same way you do is childish and pathetic. Get over yourself.
  21. If Aramis had a really awful year last year, then yes we'd probably complain that Ramirez sucks. But Ramirez gets the benefit of the doubt. Because of Pierre's season last year, he does not. As much as people keep talking about Pierre's "awful season" last year, I think he scored runs and stole over 50 bases. Considering it was such an awful season for him, I'm excited to see what he can do with Walker, a healthy Lee and Ramirez can do behind him. Walker, Lee, and Ramirez behind him is pretty equal to Castillo, Cabrera, and Delgado behind him. I don't think those 3 behind him will have a significant impact on his numbers.
  22. Who do you want us to blame it on? The players that did well?
  23. Simple solution...be optimistic with the early start and the players coming back and quit bitching so damn much. Pretty easy. why should WE have to change to appease the people bitching about the bitching? (i really just wanted to add to the cursing in this thread)
  24. And maybe those 7 extra times on base would lead to 3 more runs, and maybe an extra victory. I don't know how you can argue that Juan Pierre's low OBP isn't a big deal.
