  1. I think the only reason we didn't sign Adam Dunn was defense. If our starting outfield consisted of Soriano (who is laughable on defense), Dunn (who is below average in left, and would have been playing out of position in right), and Fukudome (who is decent, but still out of position in center)... that would be easily the worst defensive outfield in baseball... regardless of money.
  2. If any of you are at Wrigley and you see a guy holding a sign that says: "HEY GEO, WILL YOU SMOKE WITH ME?" That's me.
  3. His stuff was clearly not good last start. Normally he's a strike out machine, this year he clearly isn't. He's having serious control issues (his last start he threw change ups almost above the ump's head) Rich Harden has always been wildly effective... and he has had some games this year when he got his share of k's. Like I said, I realize he has struggled, but I think it's waaaay to early to start talking about pulling him from the rotation.
  4. Apparently someone brought it to his attention, because the article has been edited. I'm just wondering where he got that from in the first place.
  5. How bout we just let him keep making his starts and see what happens? I don't see how it makes sense to pull a guy from the rotation after a start in which he gave up 2 earned runs...
  6. There's nothing wrong with marijuana. Period. I think I like Geo even more now. And was it announced before or after today's game? I would love to hear Len and Bob's reactions :-))
  7. Wow, now Bradley is gonna end up on the DL.
  8. Jake Fox is the Greek God of warning track fly balls.
  9. What a great time this would be for a Milton 3-run homer.
  10. 2 days, 2 weeks, 2 months...what's the difference? Nobody thought he wasn't going to blow another save. When it happened is meaningless. Just don't be surprised when it keeps happening. Over, and over, and over.
  11. He wasn't terrible tonight... I still have hope that he'll turn things around.
  12. Gregg isn't a bad closer. He's an average or so closer. Then I pose this question to you... who IS a bad closer?
  13. Actually, I for one have been hating on Kevin Gregg even while he was pitching well. I think we do. But that's not saying much... being better than Kevin Gregg isn't much to brag about. My little brother closes for his little league team and I think I'd rather send him out there right now. Little league has closers now?? They sure do. He plays first base and then comes on in the 6th inning to close the game out. :D
  14. Reliable enough, yes. I like how you bumped this as if people were saying Gregg would never blow another save for the rest of the season. Well it only took 2 days after all the talk about how he had been good lately. I'm having trouble figuring out your intent here. I can't tell if you're mocking me or being sarcastic, or both.
  15. I think we do. But that's not saying much... being better than Kevin Gregg isn't much to brag about. My little brother closes for his little league team and I think I'd rather send him out there right now.
  16. Most pitchers are capable of having a good week or two here and there... that doesn't mean they don't suck. Kevin Gregg is a horrible closer, and that will probably never change.
  17. Hmm... is Kevin Gregg still a reliable closer?
  18. Almost no one with any knowledge of baseball statistics thinks OPS is the "be all end all." Many people use it b/c it is pretty useful and it's easy to calculate. Even fans with an average understanding of stats (like me) know it's flawed and that there are much better stats out there. Seems to me that the people who think OPS is the one and only measure are the guys that now, begrudgingly, have accepted that AVG/HR/RBI maybe aren't the best way to evaluate players and espn uses OPS now so this must be as good as it gets. It's really funny to hear the few people who refuse to accept "advanced" stats at all attack "stat-heads" by saying they think OPS is this great tool. No stat-head, not a single one, thinks OPS is the best measure and flawless. Agreed. I remember in the off-season, I saw a few people saying that we should try to move Theriot because he was worthless due to his low OPS. I thought that was completely ridiculous. Not every single player on your team needs to hit for power, especially a middle infielder who typically hits first or second in your lineup :-)) Guys who hit for average, get on base, score runs and steal bases are still good baseball players...
  19. Gary Sheffield is actually also injured.
  20. That article lacks so much logic, it's unbelievable. I agree when he says that OPS is not the "be all end all" that many think it is, but everything else he said made no sense whatsoever.
  21. Anyone else wondering why Lou is sending Hart out there when he hasn't pitched in the big leagues for quite some time? Maybe because he's given up on the game?
  22. Now he brings in Hart in a close game when he hasn't pitched in the majors in quite awhile...
