  1. 27-year-old Matt Davidson is Hank Aaron. Have they not been abysmal against pitchers they've never seen? Is Matt Davidson not slugging 1.857?
  2. *checks notes* 25 year old Jarlin Garcia goes 6 innings of shutout ball Caleb Smith 5.1 1 ER Dillon Peters 6 shutout 27-year-old Matt Davidson is Hank Aaron.
  3. Jason Heyward at his best: Making the opposing pitcher throw a bunch of pitches before getting him out.
  4. Miles Mikolas just took the vaunted Zach Davies deep for his first big league hit.
  5. I forgot we were facing the Reds. We'll be leaving town as the SuperCubs.
  6. But last year was a specific case of us having an aging and injured rotation with no depth, which didn't allow us to ever pile up wins, until we traded for Quintana and also got healthy. There was also probably some hangover effect going on there, but whatever. We just weren't a very good team with who we were trotting onto the field in the first half. This was just a case of us not playing well and having a bad series. Unless every single bad game is now going to be some similitude of the 2017 first-half Cubs, then I don't see why it's pertinent.
  7. Except they were started by actual good pitchers and not John Lackey, Brett Anderson, and Eddie Butler. This team is nothing like last year's.
  8. Getting a close to 2016 Zobrist for even 130 games and minimizing having to play Happ/Javy/Almora every day is going to be huge for the lineup being more consistent, imo. Yep. 100% on board with you there. I don't even want Zobrist playing more than 130 games. Rest him. Keep him healthy. Have him fresh for the playoffs. And I think Schwarber and Russell are keys this year because they can solidify their standing on the SuperCub core. Them being good would help a ton this year, too. But just getting a better understanding of who they are would give me some peace of mind.
  9. Nah. It's just annoying that the weird outlier of seemingly struggling too often specifically with getting a guy in from 3rd with 1 or no outs has continued into the tiny sample size of this year, not, "oh, golly, the Cubs sure stink with RISP, dur-hur-hurrrrr." I didn't mean it like that. I'm including myself in that. I meant it more like it's not really baseball without having stupid RISP stuff happening. It just feels like we're right back into the thick of things very quickly out of the gate.
  10. He damn well better or he will have been screwed over. Cubs fans don't appreciate him nearly enough.
  11. Forget all the shitty baseball and a couple bad starts. Schwarber and Russell look great. Zobrist looks like 2016 Zobrist. This offense is going to be humming soon enough.
  12. Well, we've got the full complement of baseball already. Dongs. Horrible losses. Stupid BABIP [expletive]. People freaking out about RISP.
  13. Great, now you've just cursed the Cubs to be destroyed by a Marlins team hitting nothing but dongs tonight. Heat check. Gotta see if I still got it.
